While atrial fibrillation ablation procedures are generally considered safe and effective, side effects still happen. There is no general risk stratification for patients undergoing this procedure or how to manage specific side effects such as a persistent iatrogenic atrial septal defect. In this paper, the team and I at Community Memorial Health Center discuss a case of right-to-left cardiac shunting after A-fib ablation and review the pertinent literature regarding a persistent septal defect after ablation. https://lnkd.in/g6RiBBCK

Exciting news from Cardionomic Inc., a Cleveland Clinic portfolio company. Cardionomic has completed its pilot studies evaluating the safety and performance of the Cardiac Pulmonary Nerve Stimulation (CPNS™) System for Acute Decompensated Heart Failure (ADHF) patients. The preliminary results suggest that CPNS therapy may address the unmet need for more effective treatment options for hospitalized heart failure patients. The company treated 35 patients in seven countries, and the data from both studies will be published in early 2024. “This is a significant milestone for Cardionomic, and more importantly for patients suffering from acute decompensated heart failure. Interesting study, especially in terms of longterm outcome. However is some caution recommended with respect to the acute postprocedural outcome, as a perioperative infarction rate of >7% among the CABG population is rather high and does of course influence the longterm data as well. Further studies including more contemporary data should be awaited before drawing final conclusions. The recommendation of an individualized indication for an invasive or conservative therapy is however not affected and may only be underscored.
