I had the remarkable opportunity to attend the "SIPEAA Campus to Corporate" program Organized by SIPEAA (SUST IPE Alumni Association) on July 7th, 2024. This event provided invaluable insights and practical advice for recent graduates like myself. During the program, we addressed several key topics: 🔸Industry Perspectives: We gained a comprehensive understanding of what to anticipate across various industries. 🔸Career Pathways and Options: We explored different career trajectories and the potential for transitioning between fields. 🔸Obstacles and Strategies: We discussed common challenges faced by newcomers and strategies for overcoming them. 🔸Professional Development: We received guidance on effectively managing and maximizing learning opportunities in a corporate environment. 🔸Emerging Fields: We identified new areas for exploration and growth. 🔸Online Presence and Visibility: We learned about the importance of online visibility and the use of strategic keywords to enhance our CVs. A highlight of the event was the chance to connect with industry leaders who shared their expertise and offered mentorship. Their guidance is invaluable, and I feel exceptionally fortunate to have this support as I embark on my career. I am profoundly grateful for this experience and am eager to apply these insights as I navigate my professional journey. A huge shout out to SIPEAA (SUST IPE Alumni Association) for arranging such an incredible Event! ✨

Happy World Youth Skills Day! In light of the multitude of challenges facing the world, it is crucial to equip young people with skills for employment. As a large, global company, Elkem has social responsibility. At our plant in Kristiansand, Norway, we are working with the municipality, the county council, the business association, and NAV (Norwegian Labour and Welfare organization), to help young people outside of the workforce and school find jobs. Through the project, called “Young Start”, students who drop out of school for various reasons have been offered a summer job with Elkem. The students are offered a different approach to learning and help to find their way into the workforce. Some even enter apprentice contracts and stay with Elkem. Our type of industry will need many new workers in the future, and we believe that this project is a good way to showcase what we are working on. This project represents one of our core values – inclusion. We want everyone to be included in the workforce and we are pleased to have found a solution that benefits both the youths representing our future and us.
🌍 On this World Youth Skills Day, we proudly celebrate our young employees at every level of our company. They bring a breath of fresh air, new ways of working and renewed dynamism to any organization, and we'd like to thank them for it! At Elkem, we believe in nurturing talent and fostering growth, especially among our young employees. Through various programs, we provide opportunities for skill development and professional advancement. In many Elkem plants and offices the company actively engages in supporting the education of young people by offering apprentice-placements, trainee-programs and programs for young people to support inclusion. ✨ Join us in celebrating the potential of youth and our collective efforts to build a skilled and empowered workforce. #WorldYouthSkillsDay #YouthEmpowerment #WeAreElkem

This is the third week of the Epoch Mentorship Programme Cohort 2.0 Epoch Africa and we are now in the second phase alternatively referred to as the 'Career Planning' phase. During the last week, I learnt about Goals and Goal Setting. Specifically 'SMART Goals'. The lesson did not just end there, we also looked into some of the obstacles that one could encounter achieving his or her goals like time management and lack of resources for examples and then their possible solutions. At the end, I was able to see the reasons why I should have a career plan well outlined and how to keep to it strictly.

Project Manager | Monitoring & Evaluation Specialist | Master's Candidate in International Project Management
As someone who enjoys learning and self-improvement, I am constantly amazed by the opportunity to try a new learning opportunity or gain a new skill. Yesterday, the careers team at York St John University - London Campus gave me a perfect opportunity. Having expressed my interest in Project Management graduate schemes starting in 2025, the brilliant Alexander (Sholto) Pridgeon invited me for a graduate assessment simulation. Together with Harry Stamp, they provided us with a group session assessment simulation. My colleagues Toonebari Duson, Joy Itegboje, MBA, Kene Okafor, MSc, and I did not know what to expect. As someone who loves preparation and planning, I was slightly anxious. However, when the assessment started, with clear and helpful instructions from Alexander (Sholto) Pridgeon, the experience turned out to be very engaging and informative. With great feedback from Harry Stamp and Alexander (Sholto) Pridgeon this great learning experience was an eye-opener. It provided me with a great opportunity to be assessed on my skills and my body language. It also gave me a great opportunity for self-reflection; to compare my self-assessment with great feedback from an experienced and knowledgeable team. Alexander (Sholto) Pridgeon, I am so grateful for the invite and a glimpse into what I am getting ready. I feel more prepared and I am more aware of the areas I want to improve on. I am looking forward to more simulations. #graduatescheme #continouslearning #growth #careergoals #graduatestudent #criticalthinking #teamwork
