“I worked with Jordan at Betterment, where I was a junior engineer (3 years out of school) and he was a lead engineer on the custody team, which handled all backend logic and infrastructure for money movement and bookkeeping. In my career, I have worked at three companies: Amazon, Betterment, and a really small AI research startup run by professors. I've held a variety of roles, and worked with engineers from a variety of backgrounds - new grads, PhDs, seasoned industry professionals. Jordan is the best engineer among them. From week one, Jordan demonstrated that his skill, experience, and professionalism. He showed that he is clearly highly skilled in Java, Spring, databases, cloud computing, microservices, and finance. More importantly, he has great technical vision. At Betterment, he had the vision necessary to start transitioning our codebase from start-up quality (monolithic, written quick-and-dirty, a lot of technical debt) to durable, scalable, and performant software. He also served as a great technical mentor and ally to women software engineers like myself. His mentorship - which took the form of additional code reviews, biweekly talks about technical topics, and a weekly paper reading group - helped me became a better engineering-thinker. This has served me in my jobs since and now in graduate school. This combination of technical and nontechnical leadership makes him truly exceptional.”
