The coast redwood (Sequoia sempervirens) is the tallest of all living trees, residing in the fog belt of the coastal range from SW Oregon to central California. It is endangered & considered one of the most valuable timber species. We chatted with Alexandra (Sasha) Nikolaeva & Lydia Smith, researchers studying the coast redwood tree at the University of California, Berkeley. They chose a custom NGS panel & target enrichment reagents from Twist to explore the connection between the redwood genome, niche survival, & climate change.
