Hypothermia is a life-threatening risk to preterm and low-birth-weight babies everywhere, including in #Yemen. One cost-efficient, highly effective method, based on skin-to-skin contact between mother and newborn, is known as Kangaroo Mother Care. It is used around the world to support the health of newborn babies. The USAID Strengthening Healthcare Access Project trained 331 community midwives to educate mothers in rural areas about this highly effective approach. These midwives also conduct follow-up visits to ensure the well-being of newborns. Additionally, 128 midwives in 77 health facilities have been trained in essential skills for emergency obstetric and newborn care, including premature babies’ treatment and incubator management. In a country with a high infant mortality rate, these efforts are making a lifesaving difference. #WorldPrematurityDay #MaternalAndNewbornHealth

Today marks the #DayofAction for #CervicalCancer Elimination, recognizing four years of global efforts to end cervical cancer. In 2020, 194 countries committed to eliminating cervical cancer as a public health problem by introducing the HPV vaccine, the most effective tool to prevent it. 🌍 Through the HPV Vaccine Acceleration Program Partners Initiative (HAPPI) Consortium, JSI and our partner Clinton Health Access Initiative, Inc. are proud to have supported the Nigeria government launch a national #HPV vaccination campaign. Through the national introduction of the HPV vaccine, over 12 million girls have been vaccinated, thanks to the leadership of remarkable individuals! 👏 Today we celebrate the stories of: ✨ Sheikh Dr. Ismail Zakariyya Al-Kashnawii and his leadership in Katsina State, where over 680,000 girls have been vaccinated, showing the power of community advocacy in saving lives. https://lnkd.in/eysfN9qw ✨ Elizabeth Hassan, Nigeria’s National Focal Desk Officer, whose dedication and personal commitment have led to the vaccination of millions of adolescent girls across Nigeria. https://lnkd.in/eaaxYigz Together, we can continue the fight to eliminate cervical cancer and ensure a healthier future for women worldwide. 💪 #CervicalCancerElimination #HPVvaccine #GloibalHealth #VaccinesWork #HAPPIConsortium

We’re proud to have been part of the week’s conversations by sharing our contributions to the global TB response through stronger health systems, digital innovations, expanded preventive treatment, improved supply chains, and much more. The fight against TB remains a critical global health priority, and this conference has highlighted both innovative solutions and challenges that still need to be addressed. As we look ahead, our commitment deepens, and we are excited to take the next step on our journey to end TB by leading the USAID Cure Tuberculosis 2 Activity in the #KyrgyzRepublic. Although preventable and treatable, infectious diseases like #TB remain leading causes of morbidity and mortality in many countries. Persistent stigma and discrimination, inaccessible supplies, and insufficient care quality limit people’s uptake of prevention and treatment. Social and behavioral sciences help us understand and influence human behavior to curb TB transmission. They help us strengthen the health system response to better align with clients’ realities, needs, and preferences. At JSI, we use behavioral insights to create #socialandbehaviorchange (SBC) interventions at all levels of the health system to expand #personcenteredcare and improve health outcomes for all. Learn more about how we use #SBC in our work to #EndTB and other infectious diseases: https://lnkd.in/erC7BURK #UnionConf2024 #GlobalHealth

Digital innovations are key to strengthening national TB programs. As part of the USAID Integrated Health Systems Strengthening and Service Delivery (IHSS-SD) Activity, our team worked to develop smartphone applications to enhance household TB screening, preventive treatment, and active drug safety monitoring and management and support internal and external facility linkages to synchronize patient transfers and support treatment adherence. One of these applications–the TB OUTREACH app–includes a dashboard that disaggregates patient data by gender, age, and location and provides advanced analytics for evidence-based decision-making. These digital innovations are just some examples of work we are showcasing at the #UnionConf2024.
