AGU is excited to attend #COP29 as an official observer organization! 🌍 As we connect with the global community at COP29, we want to spotlight the inspiring members of our community who are contributing to climate solutions. Meet Brandon Slaboda, a Graduate Student at Colorado State University in Fort Collins, CO. 🔍 Here’s more from Brandon about his journey and insights: Q: What brings you to COP29? A: I’m attending with the Climate Leadership Academy through Vanderbilt University and presenting my research on carbon markets in forests in the American Southeast. Q: If you could have dinner with anyone at COP29, who would it be? A: I’d say Greta Thunberg, as I’m inspired by her drive and commitment. Q: What recent scientific discovery fascinates you? A: I’m blown away by research showing how snow blankets insulate soil, protect root systems, and sequester more carbon. Q: A message for students at COP29? A: Our work is important, and we are the next era of experts in our fields. 🌐 Learn more about AGU’s involvement at COP29 and connect with our delegation: agu.org/agu-at-cop

About us
AGU is a global community supporting more than half a million advocates and professionals in Earth and space sciences. Through broad and inclusive partnerships, AGU aims to advance discovery and solution science that accelerate knowledge and create solutions that are ethical, unbiased and respectful of communities and their values. Our programs include serving as a scholarly publisher, convening virtual and in-person events and providing career support. We live our values in everything we do, such as our net zero energy renovated building in Washington, D.C. and our Ethics and Equity Center, which fosters a diverse and inclusive geoscience community to ensure responsible conduct. AGU was established in 1919 by the National Research Council and operated as an unincorporated affiliate of the National Academy of Sciences for more than 50 years. We were independently incorporated in 1972.

Happy America Recycles Day! 🌍 At AGU, we’re proud that our headquarters sets the standard for sustainability as a net zero energy building. Through innovation, engineering, and commitment, the energy we consume is balanced by the energy we generate onsite. 💡✨ From solar panels that power our building to rainwater recycling that irrigates our green walls and flushes toilets, we embrace the principles of reduction, reclamation, absorption, and generation. This is more than a building—it’s a symbol of what’s possible when science and sustainability work hand in hand. 🌱🔋 Together, we can shape a cleaner, greener future. #AmericaRecyclesDay #NetZero #Sustainability #ScienceInAction #AGU Learn more about our building’s features and why sustainable design matters: https://lnkd.in/g8bbDDrT
