I saw it a long time ago and barely remembered it so I thought it was time to revisit it. I was afraid it might feel a bit dated as this type of movie usually relies on familiar tropes, which have been used and abused by now. But to my surprise it still feels pretty fresh and I think anyone younger person watching it for the first time would still enjoy it greatly. The cast is great, the plot fairly original and well-written, with great pacing that ties everything together nicely. And seeing such a young Kevin Bacon is a funny little extra! So all in all I still recommend it for anyone looking for a good thriller.
I like to think I have pretty eclectic tastes in movies but I'm not sure now considering how much people seem to like this one and it ended up making my very short list of movies I had to stop watching before the end. I found it profoundly uninteresting, unfunny, and just annoying overall. I know of SZA and hear of Keke Palmer before but I don't really know them; maybe you need to be a fan to appreciate this movie more? I hate that if that's what people find cool and funny now, that makes me an old fart completely out of touch, but here we are. I'm sure this will be downvoted to hell but as usual, I'm just writing this review for myself to go back to if I forget what I thought of this movie (though for this particular one, that's unlikely).
I am a big fan of the Sonic games (I named my dog Sonic!). I was very skeptical going into the first movie and while it wasn't groundbreaking or anything it ended up being a lot better than I feared. Similarly when they announced the sequel I was very afraid of how badly they would miss the mark by doing just more of the same but yet again I was happily surprised; it still wasn't a masterpiece but as enjoyable as the first one. So when I saw the raving reviews for this third act ("best Sonic movie ever!") I was very hopeful but it turned out to be quite a letdown for me. It now feels targeted at much younger kids, and even though I love Keanu Reeves his voice acting here was horrendous. And apparently they're going to make more? I think I'll pass on this blatant scheme to milk the franchise, losing quality with each chapter.
