Nancy Drew (2019)
So disappointed
As a kid I read every Hardy Boys and Nancy Drew book I could find. I was hopeful that this series would bring me some nostalgic memories. Nope. The only thing consistent with the books are the names. The characters are nothing like the books. It's not just a new mystery with each episode, it'sa ridiculous ongoing plot line that carries over from show to show and some dumb twists. Nancy Drew was an all American girl and her friends were the same. This show goes for shock value and modern ideas of how young adults are expected to behave. I made it through 10+ episodes, hoping to find some redeeming qualities, good writing, and better acting than we'd expect from a high school drama club. What a waste of my time. I can't believe they have three seasons of this junk in the can.
River Queen (2005)
What a boring movie
This was one of the dullest movies I have seen in some time. I'm in my late 40s, and watched it with my son-in-law (early 20s) and son (17). The scenery was beautiful, but the story was a bust. We watched about an hour of it and turned it off. I spent more time on my iphone during the hour that we watched it than I spent actually watching the movie. I gave it a 3 because I enjoyed the scenery and cinematography; otherwise I would have given it a 1. I'm sure there are people who are really into the "art" of it all who will find my review appalling but we're all entitled to our own opinions, right? I couldn't figure out if this was supposed to be a "chick flick" where the focus was on the mother, or if it was supposed to be a movie for guys, with the focus on battle and adventure. In my opinion, it didn't succeed in either.
The Visitation (2006)
Intriguing movie - PG 13 rating is needed
I read the book several years ago, so I can't say whether it follows the story very faithfully. Regardless, it's quite a good movie. Peretti is a fantastic author, and can hold a reader's (or viewer's) attention. I like this better than Hangman's Curse, and this is more adult-oriented. We watched this with our 13 year old son and 11 year old daughter. They had to look away quite often when things got frightening. It was surprising to check out some of the main (and even minor) characters and see how many movies they have done. The acting was professional; some of the filming techniques were inconsistent and shaky. Even if you're not interested in "Christian" stories, if you like suspense/horror movies, you will enjoy this movie. For a relatively low-budget film, it's well worth the time. I'll watch it again!
