Baby Reindeer (2024)
A Mixed Bag
I feel very conflicted on this series.
The first couple of episodes were very gripping and I was intrigued to see what would play out in the rest of the episodes.
Martha was an interesting character despite her very serious issues and very well acted, you could believe you could meet someone like her at some point in life. I was curious to see where the dynamic between Donny and Martha was going, but after the 2nd half of the show I feel it lost it's direction and gave very mixed signals on what it was trying to say.
Trying to relate to Donny and his nuances of why he let things continue on for as long as he did is a bit tricky. On one hand trauma is very complex and him trying to keep the peace with Martha, even though she was seriously escalating in her behaviours, you could relate they had a fundamental self hate that tied them together and why perhaps they became enthralled as people.
But having her assault your partner and not report it? And then the story with the older man? Was it that he really thought he was going to further his career so he continued going to his place or did he hate himself that much that he let himself get assaulted so many times? And then he goes back to his in the last ep to make friends? It's a story of Stockholm syndrome and it doesn't leave a good feeling once finishing the series.
If the main actor went through all these events and none of them are dramatised for the story then I do hope he's in long term therapy as this is a story that is not to be promoted for happy viewing.
I feel the show is a case of human behaviour and how people are complex on their reasons to why they are the way they are but I don't think I'll be watching this again.
Neil Gaiman's Likely Stories (2016)
Hidden Gem
I stumbled across this show on Now TV one evening and while I'm very familiar with Gaiman's work after a few episodes I realized he is the creator behind this drama series.
Upon viewing the first episode it was apparent there's a very arty symbolic nature to his work (similar to Coraline) and I was absorbed quite instantly. The stories all feel bite sized and not too drawn out, they have such a wonderful simplicity whilst maintaining an air of mystery and dread within them. The dialogue and scenarios feel very familiar which really puts you into the show, as such conversations you can come across people talking about in your local cafe/bar, but with a heightened uncomfortable undertone in each episode. I look forward to re-watching this show and wish Gaiman would create a second series- if you're a fan of black mirror I am pretty sure you'll want to check this out.
Si shi qing chun (2018)
Sweet movie thats more 3 short films
Being a massive fan of animation and having studied it at uni surprisingly I haven't watched much Anime.
Firstly what impressed me was its beautiful background art, for me this really makes the movie and takes me out of my environment and makes me think I'm in theirs.
I like that the film is 3 separate stories and each are quite different to another, I was half expecting them to tie in together in the final part of the movie however this is not the case, its still a fun and flowing movie all the same.
My only niggle is the background people in scenes are completely static which left me with a sense of cheapness and for me to really believe the stories I feel the background humans should have more movement.
The music and detail in this movie is superb and the animation overall is very good, it might be more simplistic than other animated movies but i feel it works for the movies style. Am sure will watch this again some day-

Terrifier (2016)
Bad
This is my first film review, and unfortunately its not a positive one-
The first 10 minutes of this film i was enjoying the story and pacing, being a horror fan, however the longer the film went on the more i wanted to switch it to something else.
The acting is subpar and at times the attacks were not even convincing with bad editing and lazy movements, 2 *'s instead of 1* the only redeemable features are the clown having a unique style that could of worked in another film that had a good story, some of the shots are semi-decent and I appreciate the use of real gore effects over CGI. The script lacks anything unique overall this movie is awfully predictable and i want my time back.
