The Brothers Sun (2024)
Captivating Crime Drama: The Brothers Sun Strikes a Perfect 9/10 Balance with Engaging Characters and Cultural Depth!
The Brothers Sun deserves a solid 9/10! From engaging characters like Charles, his mom, and June to a captivating blend of action, comedy, and family drama, this show held my attention throughout. The actor portraying Charles is exceptional, and I'm surprised I haven't seen more of his work. What sets this series apart is its unique exploration of criminals questioning their motives, coupled with creative and engaging fight scenes using everyday objects.
The show's predominantly Asian cast and cultural themes add depth, highlighting values like respect, family, and filial piety. It's a refreshing take on organized crime that draws parallels to real-life struggles. The absence of other races in certain interactions contributes to the cultural richness of the narrative. Here's hoping for a second season to further delve into this intriguing world!
The Get Down (2016)
Very vivid like a time-warp almost...and a beautiful mix of history, culture, music and politics
As someone who's not a fan of rap music, I still find the historical aspects and how the elements of hip-hop came together very intriguing! All the characters are interesting and entertaining in their own ways which make me want to know more about them--making for very vivid episodes (it seems each character has their own mood that they add). Hopefully, next season we'll get to see more of those stories... As more of a disco fan, I found those parts to not be as interesting sadly but it could be because of the transition that disco was going through at the time. The parts about the music business was really eye-opening in seeing how it operate(s)(d). Hopefully, the show keeps up the cultural and historical elements that make this show feel like a time-warp, while telling us more about the non-main characters.
