Michiko to Hatchin (2008)
great anime!!!! PERIOD
Im gonna keep this short and sweet! Hana/Hatchin is one of the best characters to grace the anime format. She is a character that most of us adults could learn from. I highly recommend this anime...mostly for those that r sick of the standard everybody dying or all the massive amounts of blood. This show n that simple young character Hatchin...made my heart grow a lil bigger...n it makes me think that maybe there is other actual people out there in this world today that still thinks and acts the way she does...as silly as it sounds i have learned a lot about myself just by watching a young great hearted anime character. The show is great...trust me...any other negative reviews just don't understand or care to see the greatness or the message here.
Chromeskull: Laid to Rest 2 (2011)
Suspend belief and enjoy the sh!t outta urself for awhile
People intend to forget what movies r all about. Suspend belief of reality and enjoy some of the best on film kills ever...between Laid to Rest & Laid to Rest 2 a low budget horror fan has some of the best on screen kills they could ever ask for!!!! I found the original in a used media store in my city in the 5 for $10 bins...sought out the sequel minorly n was lucky enough to run into it where i work at F.Y.E. If u in the mood for "decent" story line n spectacular kills seek no further as far as i'm aware as of my writing of this review, ( Hello run on sentence). hahaha These 2 films...this one a lil less cause it suffers from "good movie sequel syndrome...but the 2 back to back r a horror/slasher film fan's wet dream...male or female...Have Fun!!!
Gory but iv'e seen worse...great kills!!!
Smurfs (1981)
Really? Everybody avoiding it?
This is and will always be one of my favorites. I used to wake my lil sister up and we would clumsily poor ourselves whatever breakfast cereal mom would be able to get us that week and me and Angie would sit down to catch The Smurfs on our Saturday mornings...the smurfs was aired so damn early back then but as kids waiting all week for what used to be Saturday morning cartoons we didn't care...and the smurfs was one we had no problem waking up for!! As i now watch it as a grown man finding it in my store on DVD i am so surprised that outta all these reviews (which i'm surprised not more of with all us 80's kids out here) how the hell has none commented on the immense amount of adult innuendos involved within this series? Really guys? I am a frequent visitor of IMDb and i see people commenting on same type of things with other shows/film that I literally have to go back and look to find what it is the reviewers are talking about...The Smurfs however is a series that doesn't even try to hide it lol...albeit it is an absolutely amazing series back when morals mattered...and they were trying to teach us kids something good..I only now watching the series after all these years recognise the adult content slipped in...lol...that was probably only thrown in there from the creators as a nod to the hardcore parents that actually got up back then with there kids....course then again if that was the case why the hell were Saturday Morning Cartoons created in the 1st place? hahahaha!!!...Definitely check it out...I know its released on DVD...at least volume 1 and 2 of the first season....." ohhh I hate doing reviews" lol...(lil shout out to Cranky Smurf there)..:) Love ya sis..hope ya read this and remember those Saturday mornings...which I pretty sure u will...:)
Legend of Crystania: The Chaos Ring (1996)
Why the hell has nobody reviewed this great old school anime flick yet!!!!
Classic old time anime style animation and a great story. Maybe it got thrown to the wayside cause the Legend of Crystania:motion picture was released but the 3 episodes of the "chaos ring" story finally released together in sequence on DVD in 1996 was brilliant, yet i see as of now it does not get the credit it deserves here on IMDb. Brought together as one makes for an epic 2hr and 15 min anime flick. Its possible that most don't know it exists..i was lucky enough to stumble acrossed it in a bin at a used movie store...i've watched it both dubbed and subbed cause that what the copy i have offers n both ways are good...i probably lean more towards the subbed version cause u get the true story the way it was meant to be told originally but either way is still good enough that it should have been rated and reviewed before now. As nice as it may seem that i get to break this films "review cherry" here on IMDb i'm still disappointed that since 1996 nobody has beat me to it. Possibly its harder to find than i realise but still. Anyway if u looking for a deep old school anime fantasy story please seek this one out...not to be confused with the actual movie that was released in same year...these 3 episodes spliced together on DVD is something that any true anime fan should seek out...because it truly is an epic old school anime flick that deserves more credit.Check it the heck out!!!
Lao shu la gui (1979)
Toothless guy n his bud double team a tranny..not what it sounds like i swear
This old school late 70's Kung Fu flick needs to b watched by fans of the genre for sure!!!! How the double hockey stick ( and yes that term hasn't been used in awhile) does that Indian dude in the last few action scenes do that stuff....wasn't't even special effects back then. "Kung Fu vs. Yoga" more like Kung Fu vs. circus "freak" contortionist. I been to Barnums and Baileys circus in the 80's n still didn't see That kind of limb manipulation. One of my favorite scenes is still the tag team against the Transvestite and i swear on my son it's not what it sounds like. Amazing fight choreography. I know this is not the best review for a film but just what i have said should be enough for any fan of the old school kung fu films to check it out....all i have hinted at is true but trust me check it out and u will understand. I scored my copy cheap in a clearance section at my local F.Y.E here in NH...but i surely would have paid more if i knew what i found n u should too if u lucky enough to come across it!!
Plook mun kuen ma kah 4 (1994)
Misleading...but still very enjoyable
I recently bought this film as a trilogy set entitled The Spirited Killer Trilogy from a "bargain bin" for a whopping $2.97. I must say as i was quite disappointed that it claimed itself as a Tony Jaa movie and he was maybe in it for 10-15min i still found it to be quite entertaining. The fight sequences i believe are choreographed by star..actor..Tony Jaa mentor..Panna Rittikrai and as usual they are pretty damn incredible. Some reviewers rated this film quite low due to it not having enough of a story line. To me this is like complaining that a xxx rated flick sucks because it doesn't have enough of a plot lol. All in all Spirited Killer is a decent flick for what it is meant to be...an action packed muay Thai martial arts film. Great fight scenes, a lot of comic relief and unbelievable stunts. I also enjoy as i'm sure any true fan would the fact that even though it is a 1994 film it still has that old school feel to it,which to me just adds to the all around enjoyment. So in conclusion i encourage any fan of this genre to do themselves a favor and seek this one out.
Shao Lin san shi liu fang (1978)
Took me way too long to view this epic chop-socky flick
I have finally had the pleasure of seeing this classic martial arts film and it is simply fantastic. I am ashamed that being a fan of the martial arts genre for most of my life that i have not viewed what many view as the greatest martial arts film of all time. IMO it is quite "bleepin" epic!!! I was fortunate enough to score a remastered copy on DVD put out by Celestial Pictures as part of the Shaw Brothers Classic Collection. I can't recommend this amazing picture enough to fans of the genre. Of course it very well may be possible that i could be the only fan in the world who hasn't seen this film until now, it was originally released in 1979 after all and i myself was born in the end of '78...so don't have much of an excuse for waiting so long. I recommend watching it in its original soundtrack with the subtitles to truly get the full effect. I would give this film a 10/10 but i don't believe that any film is truly perfect but as far as the martial arts genre of films goes it is pretty damn close
