Borderlands (2024)
Just play the games
As someone who has played the games I knew I had to go into this with low expectations and while I did that didn't even help, I could tell only Jack Black wanted to be part of the movie which he tried but not even he could save this movie, this move has absolutely no style or substance, it seems like Eli Roth just heard about it from a friend of his and was like "yeah let's make a movie out of it" and worst of all it got rated PG-13 and the games are definitely not at that level, although the first and second games are definitely tame by today's standards again you are just better off playing the games, if Eli Roth knows what's good for him he will leave this in the dust, 1/10 not worth it at all.
Hi-Fi Rush (2023)
One of the most unique games I've played in recent years
This game got announced to come to PS5 and I decided to pre-order it and I am not in any way disappointed, part platformer, part hack and slash and part rhythm game and it all fits together so well, most games these days are sequels, remakes or ports and this was nice and refreshing to play, a simple yet captivating 11 hour game that will not lose your interest at all, it's a game that I believe anyone will love the hell out of, and the voice cast, Robbie Daymond and Roger Craig Smith absolutely stole the show and didn't hold back, either edition is well worth your time and another playthrough is undoubtedly on the horizon, Tangi Gameworks take a bow.
Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League (2024)
Average, no more no less
As I said in the title of my review, this game is nothing more than average, now it has its perks, as someone who likes shooter games this one was definitely up my alley, and in truth yeah the story is sorta tedious and not gonna lie the combat can also get repetitive but the game itself is actually pretty fun, each character comes with their own play style which I feel is something games need to do more often, so far I've been switching between Harley Quinn and Captain Boomerang, had a few encounters with the Justice League so far and I'm a few hours into the game but there's no doubt that it's a lot of fun to play, I'm really glad I decided not to listen to the critics, if you like DC or shooter games in general, this one is worth a shot.
Five Nights at Freddy's (2023)
As a fan since 2014 I was really disappointed
This movie took elements from almost all of the games and mashed them all into one, in reality we didn't even put a name to a villain until at least 2016-17, there were no really edge of your seat moments, there was a few good easter eggs but the animatronics were done really well, I can at least give it that, I don't blame Emma Tammi for this, I blame the writers because something happened in that writers room and I'd like to know exactly what went down because while I know Scott had a say in this how on earth did he approve the final script? I'm sorry to say as a fan since the beginning I was rather disappointed and glad I didn't see it in theaters, this is more of a 'I've got a couple hours I'll watch it' type of movie, not very good and that's sad.
Star Wars Jedi: Survivor (2023)
A great game but is left rather open
A great sequel overall and a great game to play, getting more immersed into Star Wars lore and having more backstory to the old republic was a very nice touch to the game as well, of course Unreal Engine couldn't capture it all but what it did manage to capture was very well done, Cameron Monaghan has Cal is the perfect casting choice as it seems this particular story is set to continue and here's to hoping Cal appears in the live action movies or series at some point as his appearance has been teased and there are many times he can show up, while it was a very impressive game the ending is left rather open, of course now that another installment is confirmed that makes sense, but it can fall flat of the previous game but not by much, if you're a longtime or new Star Wars fan, give this a shot.
Resident Evil 4 (2023)
The original doesn't hold up anymore, which says a lot
I played the original which is a bit clunky but I do have to say it was the first Resident Evil game to have the third person mode we all know Resident Evil for these days, you couldn't move while aiming which players didn't mind, now all of this has changed, you can move while aiming (thank you for that) however your chances of being grabbed by an enemy are way higher, game is way bloodier (not an issue for me) but I love the feeling of the map, more colors, more realistic and more at stake, this took what was so great about the original and made it not just better but millions of times better, in 2005 the game was groundbreaking and this remake within the first hour has turned the original game stale, the original outdid itself, it exceeded expectations, this one also exceeds expectations so much so that I'm kinda scared of what players will say about the original, with that out of the way though, this is a remake that fans deserve and whether you're just now joining the fandom or have been there since the beginning, you're in for a ride with this remake, thank you Capcom, you've made a great game even better.
Dead Space (2023)
Great game but has room for improvement
I decided to give this game another shot, and while it isn't as good as the remake of Resident Evil 2 and 3 I do have to say that on its own it's actually a great game, I can deal with the small changes made, such as upping the graphics and giving Isaac a speaking role which he didn't have in the original, the aiming mechanic is weird but not a deal breaker, if EA does decide to remake 2 and 3 which I hope they do this is a game they can look back on and improve on what's already made it great, again I think it's a great game, it's better to not compare it to other games that have received the remake treatment which it seems to be happening a lot more often, it's definitely better than The Callisto Protocol, which tried to be like this but failed in many of those aspects.
The Hunger Games: Catching Fire (2013)
As someone who read all the books, this is the only one that still holds up
Yes I read each book in their entirety and enjoyed each of them too, and out of all of them this one is the one that stays the most true to the book, (why would the others in all honesty?) they are definitely good movies and I even remember when these movies came out and it was such a big thing, while I am a lot older and that hype has undoubtedly died down I can still say that almost 10 years later this movie still holds up, it definitely has a more action approach to it but did it in a way that keeps you intrigued and definitely doesn't go overboard, as I said as someone who read the books I find them superior to the movies but in terms of book adaptations this series is one of the best.
Atomic Heart (2023)
Fallout meets Bioshock in this at times repetitive but otherwise enjoyable game
To me it's very much Fallout meets Bioshock, it of course comes with flaws, but actually runs pretty smoothly for the most part, the unlocking mechanism can be repetitive I feel they could've come up with more unique puzzles but of course that isn't a deal breaker, I know there is controversy regarding the game however, little to no details about it have actually been confirmed, it is in the end just a game and and a really good game at that, if you're a fan of Fallout, Wolfenstein or Bioshock. This game will meet or exceed the needs, the use of your left hand for abilities and your right for weapons is a mechanic I feel can be used more but is again something that's know for being used in Bioshock, I give this game an 8/10, has its flaws but anyone that just decides to play it for what it is will get a kick out of it.
Forspoken (2023)
A honest review
Controls may be a bit clunky, might bug out a bit at times but overall I am genuinely enjoying the game, it is a silly fantasy game but we all need something like this in our lives, beginning was a bit slow but I felt picked up quick, combat kind of reminds me of Ghostwire Tokyo (another favorite of mine) and the dialogue may be a bit choppy too but again it's an overall above average experience, I love the fantasy elements and it's great to see the fantasy genre getting some love again, to me it's an unexpected surprise, game if the year contender? We will just have to wait and see, it again is not a bad game, but definitely above average.
The Last of Us (2023)
The best video game adaptation since Sonic
The scene in 1968 wasn't in the games but I'm willing to hand wave that away because it actually gave us way more context into what what happened in the games, as a fan of the games I was actually very impressed with the casting and good thing I was, I went into this with high expectations and my expectations were exceeded to points I can't even describe, was it slow at times? Yes, did Pedro and Bella bring their own charm to their characters? They absolutely do and I know a third game won't be coming out anytime soon but they still have a lot to work with here and with just 8 episodes left in this season there's still a lot to be seen, I'm looking forward to next week, great job HBO, this is the best video game adaptation I've seen since Sonic.
God of War Ragnarök (2022)
A really good game but just as one miniscule problem
All right yes there is no doubting that this game is absolutely amazing, love the graphics, love the storytelling and most of all how smoothly it runs on PS5, the only miniscule problem that I have with the game is that on my first hour of the game the length of the cutscenes took up a good chunk of that time, I fully understand that it is part of the story and a very good one at that so I can definitely deal with it, again this is a very miniscule problem but that is quickly solved with the amazing gameplay and scenery I know it isn't open world, would've been cool if it was and keep in mind this game is not for everyone but to those who decide to play it, you're in for something special.
Far Cry 5 (2018)
Great game but if you are religious I strongly suggest avoiding it
Yes if you do happen to be religious this game may hit a little too close to home or even offend you but boy I gotta say I'm having so much fun with it, I may be playing as someone who's going on a full blown rampage but that just adds to the thrill, the action is the best part and if you do happen to like open-world games or first person shooters I highly recommend checking this one out. A rather disturbing story behind it too and funny enough this has better graphics than 6 but I have a feeling that 6 was meant to look more arcadey compared to this. Nonetheless the Far Cry games are great, this one though has to be my personal favorite.
Saints Row (2022)
It's not original but it is a silly but very fun game
Being the first Saints Row game I've played, I'm willing to admit that the graphics are a little choppy but not a deal breaker, to be honest I'm
actually impressed and I love the silly concept to it, the tasks you do lead to hilarious pandemonium and I wasn't disappointed when this would happen, I found it funny and maybe a bit messed up but I know it's similar to other games out there but to me the open-world was the selling point as I really get a kick out of those types of games, but honestly give it a try, it's not original I can tell other games have inspired it but it's silly, sometimes stupid but in the end it's fun and that's all that matters to me.
Until Dawn (2015)
Good game but am I missing something?
I really feel like the game could've done way more and it definitely still has flaws and can be choppy at times. I felt like it was still good though but The Quarry just seemed to fill the gaps better.
Nope (2022)
May not be original but it was very entertaining nonetheless.
There is a lot of sci-fi movies out there and this is one that audiences will no doubt be entertained by. Like with Peele's previous work he conveyed a social message with it and with this one I feel there may have not been one but I also feel he just wanted to make a generic horror movie and he did. With that in mind I do look forward to what Peele has in the future for us.
The Quarry (2022)
Not for everyone but an intense and fun experience for those that decide to play it.
I truthfully have nothing against these types of games. I watched a playthrough of Until Dawn which I liked but never imagined myself playing it. Now here I am having finished a playthrough of The Quarry and there's no doubt that i'm going to go back and get another ending. I hear that there's 186 different endings. So if you're into games like this and campy horror B-movies this is the game for you. I will say though the performances were not in any way a B-movie style they were very well done. Again it isn't for everyone but those that decide to are in for a treat.
Jurassic World Dominion (2022)
Not that bad actually
Just saw it and it's definitely good. A good movie to see to start off the summer. Whether this is the end of the franchise or not it was still very entertaining. A well written and has good action scenes. Just wanted to give my honest opinion and say that I actually liked it.
Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness (2022)
Awesome movie but in my honest opinion there was nothing horror about it
A very well done movie and worth the wait. Sam Raimi absolutely killed it with this one and for being the first film he has directed in 9 years. Marvel needs to hold on tight to him this guy knows what he's doing. Glad to see him back and glad to have Doctor Strange back. Can't wait to see where this leads us.
Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six Extraction (2022)
A decent game. No more no less
As someone who plays Rainbow Six Siege I'm aware this game is based on a mode that was in Siege a while back and this game really feels no different. Mechanics and gameplay are very smooth with very little bugs. You just have to know what you're doing. It's in no way a game of the year contender but the improvement in graphics can definitely be appreciated.
Spider-Man: No Way Home (2021)
They did it.
Marvel has shown after the masterpiece that was Avengers Endgame that the MCU is nowhere near stale. While Phase 4 has been amazing it just got way better. Looking forward to what Marvel has in store for us.
Resident Evil 7: Biohazard (2017)
20 dollars well spent
It's bloody, it's brutal, it's scary, it's got action, and at times has some dark humor. This is how you do a return to form. This proves that Capcom can still make a good scary game while having action in the mix too. Resident Evil has returned to form.
Resident Evil 6 (2012)
It is a mess but it is a good game in itself
Yes as a resident evil game it isn't that good but as a game in itself it is really good. It just struggles with not knowing what it wants to do. Mixing slight horror (one jumpscare), call of duty and gears of war, and you have this. Most of this game is dedicated to combat. Which obviously means it's packed to the gills with action. But it still is a good game however who really deserves more credit is the voice cast, Matthew Mercer, Laura Bailey, Roger Craig Smith, Troy Baker, Eden Reigel and all the others absolutely nailed it. I really hope they come back for a future game.
Resident Evil 3 (2020)
Good game but it's short
The gameplay and mechanics were really well done as well as the story and characters. However the game could easily be completed within a day. It took me 4 hours to go through it normally. I do like that it has a straightforward objective but it gets to it rather quickly but if you are looking to kill some time. Then this is definitely a game that people will like.
Ojing-eo geim (2021)
While it isn't original. It's still very well done
Yes this can be seen as a dystopian fiction. Like Maze Runner, Hunger games, you name it. But the fact that they put children's games into the mix was a concept that was pulled off very well and in a way that made you feel a major amout of tension. I can only hope that this gets renewed for Season 2. If not then it had a hell of a run.
