This may have been the first movie I saw in my life that I didn't like. I will defend it a little. It was the first feature length movie based on a video game, so the creators really didn't know what to do with it. It features plumbers named Mario and Luigi who stumble onto an alternate timeline where dinosaurs evolved into humans. Much of the dialogue is just plain bad, but there are definitely some good special effects. Nintendo seemingly hated this movie so much they forbid live-action movies based on their products and any Mario adaptations until the 2023 movie.
It actually has gotten a much higher score on RottenTomatoes than it began with. It started out with a 14% going up to 29. There are some criticisms of this movie that are simply invalid. Mario and Luigi are not father and son, they just have a relationship like a father and son, in contrast to what the Nostalgia Critic would lead you to believe. Also, their last names ARE Mario and this has been confirmed by the creators, so the Critic was wrong about that too. The people involved hated working on it, but it truly was a delight to see some people genuinely defend it, so while it's dumb, it could be worse. *1/2.

I have followed every review of the Nostalgia Critic so far, but eventually stopped watching all the video reviews of the Angry Video Game Nerd. The series started in 2004, which predates YouTube. A live-action series predating YouTube is pretty much unheard of. I think it's the longest running Internet series ever, at least in terms of number of years. This was the original Internet review show. Even though people cover all sorts of mediums nowadays like cartoons and movies, video game reviews have always been popular.
James Rolfe plays the Nerd, who is angry to the point where it's fascinating to know how nice of a guy he is in real life. A lot of his jokes involve vulgarity, but he's extremely funny. It might be because video games could in fact be the medium that's the most frustrating. Think about it. It's not like you have to do anything manually to complete a movie, except work with a DVD. It really seems suit a video game critic would be the angriest.
It's just amazing the sheer number of franchises he's tackled. My favorite review of his is probably "Bible Games". I might not be able to associate with him that much as I don't really play video games. Well, I do play web games constantly. Maybe he could review those. It's an iconic web series that will no doubt last. ****
