Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F (2024)
In a world of crappy sequels, reboots and remakes, this SHINES!
Eddie is back in his classic form, quick one liners and comebacks. I was skeptical after Coming to America but this delivers! I am a fan of this whole franchise, even the third installment had moments that made me laugh. It was a far-cry from the first two but I was a kid and Eddie Murphy could do no wrong. Context out of the way!
Axel F brings back the classic feel with the pacing, character dynamics and definitely the soundtrack. They brought the main character child troupe, which usually happens but the relationship between Axel and his daughter Saunders has decent chemistry. Joseph Gordon Levitt's character takes a while to get involved but when he get involved, it adds to the story. The Serge moment is great and takes me back to all the encounters. Weird seeing Rosewood not be skinny but hey we all get old.
Overall Id watch again, more than just the watch to say I checked it out! Netflix did good this time...
Power Book III: Raising Kanan (2021)
The universe that keeps on giving!
The Power Universe as the STARZ show runners are calling their series of shows. These are all enjoyable shows, displaying street life with a glitz and glamor like no other. 50 Cent needs his props for this production. Raising Kanen is a great show if you enjoy urban crime shows or just someone looking for a new something to watch. The acting is pretty good but the wardrobe and cinematography really make this show great just like the previous Books of Power.
Many people wanted to compare this show to "Get Rich or Die Trying" with 50 cent adding real experience from his life but I think this will be very different. Also Raq, Kanen's mother is a great actress and beautiful as well, her coats are pretty dope.
Really enjoying this show!
Dad Stop Embarrassing Me (2021)
Good idea, bad execution!
I gave it some stars for a few funny moments and because its Jamie Foxx and David Alan Grier. They legends so Ill watch off merit.
The idea of single dad trying to raise a young daughter has been done time and time again but the sitcom format seems so dated with the laugh track. This would be dope in a series like Georgia & Ginny, a better budget and more serious moments.
I watched all I could but Jamie Foxx still silly af and getting his comedy out so kudos to that.
The Last O.G. (2018)
Not perfect but definitely entertaining
I like the realistic storyline, ex con getting out of prision seeing the old neighborhood changing and people moving on without him. Tracey Morgan isnt over acting for laughs but alot of funny moments. Its not all comedy but moments that feel familiar from a black perspective. The halfway house members are quirky and not super stereotypical. I don't see this going on for many seasons but enjoy it while its here.
