Teacup: This Is Nowhere, Part Two (2024)
Episode 8
A good ending that set the stage for a potential season two, but it is just not the right fit for me. I think it might be better off just ending this and moving on.
The inter dimensions and aliens and now they are going to make it a big government conspiracy, it is all a little bit much.
I would have preferred a much simpler supernatural reason or something for why things happened the way they did.
This show wasn't horrible, but there are a lot better options out there than this one. Yvonne Strahovski becoming a bad *** female leader was one of the few highlights in this finale. Not much else to call out.
Only Murders in the Building: My Best Friend's Wedding (2024)
Episode 410
I guess the episode could have been worse, but this season just did not get the job done. They paid a solid tribute to Jane Lynch's character, although I have a feeling she will probably appear via vision/flashback at some point next season.
The wedding just didn't seem like a big deal at all. Steve Martin and Martin Short yacking it up at the Chinese food restaurant was the better moment for sure though.
This show still has its charm, but I think it tries to come off as prestige TV more often than not, when it really isn't. Just embrace that it is a mainstream kind of show and let it be that.
Teacup: This Is Nowhere, Part One (2024)
Episode 7
I was really excited for the show. Amidst the nonsensical dialogue and plot, and taking the weird writing aside, this felt fresh and it felt like the kind of horror show we need a lot more of.
But then it just went all over the place. It was horrifying to see parents think they had to drown their daughter, that felt real and powerful, but it just didn't work for the majority of the episode. Too much standing around and wandering and Assassin jumping from person to person too often feels like a joke.
I think the last episode could potentially save it, I really hope it does, but this was quite dull.
Only Murders in the Building: Escape from Planet Klongo (2024)
Episode 409
This was definitely better than the last one because it felt like the Only Murders of yesteryear. They had the trio pulling off some crazy antics to try and get answers instead of nonstop flashback scenes.
But like this show has done before, they had the killer reveal, if that is the reveal, be a minor character that no one really cares about.
Selena Gomez not doing the shouting during the "audition" and then not really freaking out is underwhelming. We know she has her issues, but you have to push yourself a little on a show like this.
Let's see if the finale works, but this is just not it. Decent, but it could be so much better.
All Elite Wrestling: Dynamite: Fright Night (2024)
October 30
This was an okay show, but it felt like a little bit of a step back from where they have been the last couple of weeks.
Having Shelton Benjamin lose cleanly after gaining some new fans and rebuilding his career in AEW was a mistake. I guess the thinking was we didn't know if they would have Swerve beat him cleanly or not, but this should have been saved for a PPV.
Bobby Lashley is a big signing for them, but we know how they book big men in this company. I would rather see Wardlow get his main event run than Lashley.
Can we get Deonna Purrazzo and Thunder Rosa and Taya Valkyrie and Willow back on Dynamite too?
WWE NXT: Episode #18.44 (2024)
October 29
They are really building out the NXT women's division which is a good thing, but they are sort of kicking the homegrown talent to the side. As much as I would like to see Jordynne Grace in there full-time for WWE and seeing Giulia and Stephanie Vaquer thriving, I kind of wish the true NXT talent could get a shot.
The main event scene is so weak right now. Bully Ray couldn't even get booked by NWA or TNA anymore, but they are having him take on the top heels? I get that it is for the ECW Arena/2200 Arena show, but come on, this is not benefitting anyone. They have to find a way to launch some new stars.
American Dad!: The Grocery Store Bank (2024)
The Grocery Store Bank
With the future of Family Guy in doubt I also have to wonder how long American Dad will run. But for now let's just enjoy it.
Francine, Roger and Stan working together on a heist inspired by Ocean's Eleven, and trying the most ridiculous stunts along the way.
This was a little over the top, even for this show, but I won't write it off that much. I am glad that it is back and it was a funny one for sure at times.
These modern grocery stores are getting a little bit over the top, but the expensive ones don't really have banks in them anymore, do they? I don't know if that misstep was intentional or not?
Poppa's House: Sleepover (2024)
Episode 2
Two episodes in and I really hope that this show can find an audience as this is the kind of laughtrack comedy that we need a lot more of.
Damon Wayans Jr. Plays the same character in pretty much all of his roles, but it works here and it feels like a natural fit playing off of his father. I think the female characters could have been cast a little bit stronger, but such is the cost of life.
This show is decent enough, but could use some better writing. But they have me engaged here and I hope that this can be the start of the CBS sitcom lineup being watchable again, and not just Ghosts and garbage elsewhere.
What We Do in the Shadows: The Railroad (2024)
The Railroad
What We Do in the Shadows is somehow having a really decent final season. Usually shows collapse under pressure and the actors come off like they are just there for a paycheck, but not with this one.
Nandor is doing great work in the background and the fake Nandoor at The Railroad was good as well.
This show still has a lot of laughs within it. It has some really bad storylines for sure, but it does make for good TV sometimes the more absurd the better.
I will miss the show when it is gone and we can only hope that Matt Berry finds another US sitcom to enjoy. But for now we'll keep laughing at Laszlo.
NFL Thursday Night Football: Week 9: Houston Texans vs. New York Jets (2024)
October 31
As a New England Patriots fan we got a brief reprieve when the team finally beat its division rival the dastardly New York Jets. The Jets had won the last two games against the Patriots after losing to them for decades.
The Texans were the better team on paper and seemed to be in control of this during the first half, but somehow absolutely collapsed in the second half. Their defense fell apart and they gave up a 3rd and 19 touchdown to Garrett Wilson that I am not even sure was a touchdown.
Tough loss here because this keeps the Jets' slim hopes alive, which will make their fanbase even worse.
Only Murders in the Building: Lifeboat (2024)
Episode 408
An absolutely outrageous story got even more over the top and they dragged their feet in an episode that felt like it ran forever.
They have so many talented people on this cast and yet they find a way to make it really boring. Eva Longoria excelled this season in a role she was born to play, Eva Longoria, but she couldn't even save this episode here.
I keep hoping for the show to get good again, but it is just not working. I really hope they abandon everything they have done this season next year and let season five start from absolute scratch as soon as that launches in the next summer. I hope.
AEW Collision: Episode #2.39 (2024)
October 26
The Outrunners may not be good performers in the ring, but it is hard to deny the connection they have built with the audience. They are over by any metric and AEW has to be careful not to push them too fast, but also to not miss out on the moment. It is crazy that FTR have to be play backseat to them, but that's where we are in 2024.
Ricochet and Lio Rush was okay, but these Ricochet matches are just not really building him up right. I think he needs to take on some bigger names and some more clear heels than he is so far. Go to war with The Don Callie Family or something. Lio Rush doesn't make sense.
Tulsa King: Life Support (2024)
Episode 207
So Tyson's dad survived? What a cop out.
Thresher backing down just felt like a bad decision and I hope he takes out his partner, but I worry they may have the partner take him out first.
I feel like this episode didn't really move any stories along. I think we all know that Vincent's plan is going to get thwarted and he will end up paying for his attempted coup.
This show has a certain feel and thrill each week that makes it an easy watch, but this was a really average episode. Some weeks work, some don't and for this show to really take off I think it needs to be a little more consistent every Sunday.
Murder in a Small Town: A Chill Rain (2024)
A Chill Rain
As a Castle fan I am obviously a huge Stan Katic fan, but I don't really know what she was going for here. She tried to do a film noire femme fatale bit, but it just came off as a really weird accent.
She did play the devilish role well and I would like to see her as a villain on a season-long arc on a show, but this was just not it.
Still, amidst a story all over the place and a weak script, this still managed to hold my interest a bit. I guess that is what happens when you have the hero trapped in a fire and needing to be saved at the end. That always leads to some high-class entertainment value.
Murder in a Small Town: Prized Possessions (2024)
Prized Possessions
Man, with the bad ratings for this show on TV episodes like this are not going to help turn things around.
This show does feel fresh and relaxed and enjoyable, but this just played into the absolute worst cliches of procedurals for sure.
This was just boring too. An uninteresting opening murder scene and then it just dragged and dragged.
I think they need to let some of the supporting cast shine in their own way because something needs to change from this format. The small town charm is going to evaporate quite quickly if they don't find a way to really build on any of said charm through storytelling.
Only Murders in the Building: Valley of the Dolls (2024)
Episode 407
It is amazing that with all of the talent this show has that they can turn out a clunker of an episode like this.
I guess if you like Melissa McCarthy you feel differently, but I don't so I don't. Her acting was over the top and just brutal.
Eva Longoria continues to shine in the scenes she is in and I wish they could find a way to add her to the cast full time.
But the rest of this episode was just brutal. I am not sure how this show gets out of the funk it is in, but I have forgotten what even the point of the season anymore. Charles' stunt double's death seems so irrelevant at the point.
American Horror Stories: Clone (2024)
Clone
Well, we knew there would be a twist of some kind, but that was not exactly how I saw this one ending, so there was that.
But I feel like they rushed the idea of the robot technology a little bit too much. If he could create a cline this easy couldn't he have figured out a way to stop his medical ailments too? Why not dedicate your life to that instead?
Ran a little too long, but this was another fun episode here. This show is good fun and while it doesn't get the buzz of the original American Horror Story, it is fun in its own right and I hope it gets renewed in the end for a fourth season.
American Horror Stories: Backrooms (2024)
Backrooms
This definitely had an eerie and fun vibe to it, but they just did not have an ending here. I think we all figured the lead character had murdered his son, but there wasn't really a twist or anything shocking.
The truth came out and he paid for his crimes. But they did not really explain the purpose of the alternative universes and the dreams and that was just a side plot that didn't really accomplish anything.
I like this genre more than most people do and I'll keep watching the show, but this had a lot of potential and just felt like it missed the mark. Still pretty good in my opinion though.
Territory: Episode #1.1 (2024)
Episode 1
In a world of Yellowstones and Yellowstone wannabe shows, we got our next one here, albeit an Australian version.
It definitely started off a little bit slow, but got a lot better as things progressed.
I think this show could be interesting, but if it is just going to be Yellowstone with a little bit of Succession thrown in I don't think it is going to work. It needs a lot more originality to it.
Anna Torv is good, but a lot of the rest of the cast is just underperforming here. I am not sure if these are big names in Australia or not, but I don't recognize most of them an they didn't really make it for me.
US Open Tennis: 2024 US Open Day 13 (2024)
Day 13
As a big fan of Jessica Pegula I keep hoping for her to have her breakthrough and finally get that big win and Major Championship. This seemed like the best opportunity for her with Iga Swiatek and Cori Gauff out of the mix, but she fell to someone who can beat anyone in the world on any given night in Aryna Sabalenka.
You can't argue against the Russian being a worthy Champion, but you have to wonder how many chances like this Pegula will get.
But with football season back in full swing I still like watching tennis and seeing the best in this sport go at it. But this was a fairly one-sided affair.
The Crown: Hope Street (2023)
Hope Street
I feel like the show is getting a little bit better than it has been for most of the last few years, but it is a little too late.
I am not sure the college/university years of William and Kate is the right time to end the period on, but what can you do. It is a little bit interesting from a teen drama perspective, but I feel like there were a lot more issues around this time and the years after they could have been taking on.
I am anxious for the finale and to see how this story finally concludes though. These people, for better or worse, have been a huge factor of our lives for a long time so I hope we get a fitting farewell.
From: Scar Tissue (2024)
Episode 306
I keep waiting for the show to blow us away and give us a jump scare or a big development or something, but we're not really getting anything from it. We got a return of the kids which was good to see, and we saw a little bit in the tunnels, but still no answers for sure.
I fear the writers are just toying with us and mocking how overzealous people are with the way the Jade character is written.
This show remains such an easy watch every week and is absolutely appointment viewing for me though.
I do hope we get some answers or at least something interesting soon though because I am definitely starting to lose patience.
Poppa's House: Pilot (2024)
Episode 1
I have been longing for a return to the 90's era of sitcom, which I consider to be the golden age for the genre, and we got that here with Poppa's House. Of course you had someone who was at their career high in Damon Wayans Sr. During that period, but just the writing and tone felt like such a throwback.
We need more shows like this and we need to try an salvage the multi-cam genre.
Was it absolutely perfect? No, but this has the potential to be something good. I worry about it not really taking off and becoming a ratings hit, but as long as it gives a few laughs every week it will always have a chance.
Elsbeth: The Wrong Stuff (2024)
Episode 202
They certainly picked the right cast for the annoying billionaires in this one as all of them were unlikable, and that was the vibe they were going for.
Maybe this one got a little bit too in the weeds as they were spending a lot of time investigating at the space station and not really doing much outside of it, but that is not that big of a deal in my mind.
It was a little over the top how they ended up cracking the case, although the arrogance of a billionaire to think simply switching out a battery would go unchecked when you were dealing with rich people and trying to kill them I guess was too much too.
The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon: Moulin Rouge (2024)
Episode 202
It seems like there are veru polarizing camps across IMDB when it comes to this show with a lot who love every minute of it and those that hate it.
I have to admit I am probably in the second group.
This just feels like it drags and drags and it feels like the zombies are a huge side character and nothing more while they try to tell this ridiculous story about a parish in France that no one really seems to care about.
I really want this show to find its groove and its voice and be good, but the episodes are way too long and just way too boring in my opinion. But that's just my take on it, nothing more.
