Hijack (2023)
Painfully bad that even Idris can't save
Wow this is rough stuff that normally the British can get away with because it's on the BBC. But Apple+ surely won't fall for this to often. It's just really bad and you think that Idris, despite his star quality can't pull the wool too many times. Quality in all departments has too be better. We know he can't control everything but he is executive producer and either he can do this kind of project or not. You can't just put your name to something then hope to avoid the fall out. Personally couldn't get past the second episode because life is precious and others should know what their in for. Stick to being the coolest man ever and hopefully the next Bond and leave producing to people that know what their doing. No offense.
Death Stranding (2019)
Gaming experience to another level and then some.
Certainly the best game of my lifetime ( I'm 48 and played most ) but what we have here is something on the next level. Have to give thanks to Hideo and his team for what he sought out to do and ultimately achieved. Can't have been easy selling this to Sony initially but thankfully it seems there are still people running games companies who love gaming and just don't see the revenue as the only agenda.
Perfect gameplay design in every way and my god every detail has been considered. What we have is a universe that in real time you could play for the next 2-3 years and never get bored nor get anywhere near unlocking what the game has to offer.
I've been playing for 90 hours now just building the roads and having fun jumping back from Central to Eastern just to kill BT's and collect crystals ( you need loads to complete the road network ) gathering them in the Central region is hard work, easier to jump back to Eastern and fill up.
Overall an evolutionarily jump forward for game design, sound design and most everything else really.
God knows what Kojima Productions are going to do next but I can't see how there going to top this.?
Hope they surprise me :)
BTW I bought a RTX 2080 8GB just to play this... Worth every penny.
Stan Lee's Lucky Man (2016)
What a shame
About every shot London at its best, and you can't really complain with the producers doing that, but the acting is what kills it along with horrendous script writing, it's just so bad. There's so much money in London that this type of crap gets made, everyone is wooden as wooden gets, its laguable. Makes you appreciate the US stuff that we take for granted. We might be good at the technical stuff but we should leave proper drama and acting to the Americans. James Nesbitt does his best but he has nothing to work with here, a bangle that can change luck but you can't control.? its a mess that even he can't save. Was hoping for the best but no thanks. Hype over substance never works, unless your Star Wars.
Meet Joe Black (1998)
Better it or admit defeat.!
A timeless classic and a update of how to make a movie. Should be a mainstay in school or anybody in the business or entering it. The big plot isn't the thing here it's the scenes with Susan and Jo that are the mastery, if you watch carefully they are a joy, kind of thing that rarely happens in that last 20 years. All we have now is The Intern and Quentintoo Taratinooo, seems love stories are hard work or expensive to Hollywood, but to be fair there aren't that many Brad Pitts around and this movie is all him, just nice for all the right reasons. A benchmark, that has never been bettered yet and I doubt it ever will, it has some faults but don't we all.
Ben Collins Stunt Driver (2015)
Who wouldn't want to spend an hour with 'The Stig'
An hour and ten minutes with Ben Collins ( The original 'Stig' in Top Gear in case you didn't know ) while he drives cars and flies in planes. It's very much like a Top Gear episode under some slightly dodgy premise of finding a car for a stunt job he's been recruited for, that didn't quite work for me but nevertheless it's a entertaining hour as we know Ben is a formidable race driver and very much respected ( except perhaps by the BBC ). All the same, the man in the white suit comes across as personable and camera friendly. CGI was a bit iffy but the production was top rate. If you are a fan of Top Gear then you'll enjoy this.
Pussy Riot: A Punk Prayer (2013)
Excellent watch
Whether you have a political interest or even know what the agenda is here this is still a great and insightful watch into the Russian judicial system and how it works. The defence statement by the bearded lawyer half way through was in my opinion, brave and should be listed in history. The guys who made this doc should be applauded as should the ladies who have stuck to their beliefs throughout. Two years in a Russian Penal Colony..? Lets see you do it. I couldn't And I've been in Prison in the UK Not nice At all Have I typed enough yet? In England we spell Defence, like well Defence.. Not Defense, which looks backward... Enough yet..? PLLSSSSSS
