If you want a terminally ill storyline with a jaded, rude, erratic male read just go watch Uncontrollably Fond. Bae Suzy character is lovable, and I actually cried in the end. I couldn't get into the story, and the more I think about it it's because I hated the lead character. They wrote him so unlikeable in my opinion, and yes his life was tragic and what not but still I think only the pull of Woo Do Hwan made me hit play, and the second lead actor made me stay. None of the decisions done by the main lead made sense (which I guess is the point). I was rooting for the second lead and his happiness from episode 2 on. He was such a delight and showed so much emotional growth that paid off at the end for him. Anyways, i still don't get the hype about this show.
What can you expect after pairing Hallmark Channel's sexiest actors to make a movie with alpacas? Tears of course. I signed up for Marco's charming gaze, but ended up crying about my mom and her mom and your mom too. This one, like the Cherry Lane series, is full of heart, grief, and a nostalgia for the time you wish you spent with your family. I think they paint a beautiful vignette of the mother-daughter relationship-how frustrating it can be, yet how irreplaceable and unlike anything else it is. Of course, there's some usual Hallmark Christmas movie things happening that make no sense but I didn't mind it. I would absolutely recommend, and rewatch next year!
Guess I'll be the only one besides the director of the movie to give it ten stars?? Y'all are so strict on here, that's why everyone cool is on Letterboxd! Objectively, this movie is at least an 8 maybe a 7 for whatever gripes you maybe have with the plot. But for me, it's a 10 all the way in the Hallmark hall of Christmas films. From the set up, characters, plot twists, and ending Jingle Bell Run is a joy to watch. I didn't even mention the sizzling, yes sizzling, chemistry between the leads. They had me blushing, giggling, and kicking my feet! I even found myself trying to solve the clues and was rooting for a few of the supporting characters. My ratings of a made for tv holiday film are always based on how well they hit the genre beats, if they put a twist on tropes that's a plus, leads chemistry makes 80% of the film in my opinion, and lastly I compare them to my other 10s to see how I feel. I think Jingle Belle Run excels in all of these for me and we should all be glad Hallmark continues to diverge from the cookie cutter, stale, overplayed Christmas movies about the overworked cold hearted exec going to small town Christmas and saving the parade or whatever they have them doing these days.
