This is one of the best things I have seen this year.
Not only is the writing so nuanced and thought out, it is aided by spectacular acting and incredible direction.
I mean it's a testament to this show that each of the episodes is done in one take BUT that does not detract from the the story.
Story. Story. Story.
It has something to say and it says it as bold as you like without banging your head with the message. It sinks in afterwards. Slowly and by God makes you want to talk about it with anyone else who has seen it.
It is done so well, that you can't help but binge watch this.
I didn't know anything about the story and I'm glad I didn't.
It will leave you speechless by the end.
Watch this.
Well done to Stephen Graham et al.
Bravo.

I didn't want to knock this film. I had low expectations when I sat down to watch this with my daughter. I had low expectations because of the reviews. And the thing is I was really wanting it to be even slightly better than it had been described. The trailer sold it to me.
So, let's get to the crux of the matter (and if you know the complicated history of this film, it's not simple).
The main issue is the trailer. It does a brilliant job of promoting the best bits of this film. There is thrills, amazing new captain America moves, Harrison Ford must add to the gravitas and then of course the Red Hulk....and the mysterious stranger.
It sounds like it harks back to an earlier Captain America film....one with conspiracies, incredible twists, tension......and pile on action.
The issue must have started with the diluted script. The original title of this was, "New World Order".....harking a reference to nazis....but then it got changed to "Brave new world".....test screenings weren't good and further reshoots were done....and so the whole thing feels like it has a message (and it's pretty obvious) but that message is weak in it's delivery. The colour of his skin is never talked about. And to be honest, it needn't have to. And yet, they keep alluding and alluding but never go deep....and so there is no message to deliver by the end.
That's all ok but the worst thing is the lack of action. There are too many long scenes that drag out without really getting anywhere. When the action comes it's good but nothing really big until the big fight off scene at the end.
The problem is that the twist that is meant to be the red hulk and the fight is all given away in the trailer. And so all you are left with, in terms of intrigue, is the mysterious stranger's identity (as alluded to in the trailer) and when that comes....oh boy.....is it flat...like who?
Ultimately, the trailer does a brilliant marketing job by taking everything good and exposing it before the main event and what you are left with is head scratching moments interspersed with action and revelations already shown in the trailer.
There are lots of why? Why? Why?
It's hard to understand character motivations.
You know those scenes in cop shows where the actual cops turn up late to the party. Every single time. That.
Not a single law enforcement person turns up when the actions is happening. They all turn up after the thing is done and then take away the bad guy.
This film is as bad as the Falcon and winter soldier series (which started ok and then came off the rails).
It's bad. I can't sugar coat it. It adds nothing to the MCU or indeed the world of good story telling.
I honestly would not bother and if you do want to watch it wait till it's on Disney+.
I was exasperated throughout. Pity. The trailer looked really good.

Look, when I watch Bad Boys, I know what I'm getting.
It isn't Shakespeare.
BUT.... I still want fun, interesting things to see.
The previous film, in the franchise, was a lot more fun. Action was much much better. It was silly but very enjoyable.
That there...the word franchise....is where I see why this has failed. It's trying to build on what Fast and Furious has turned out to be. Rather than at least having some semblance in the real world goings on...this film has now branched out into FF territory. We now expect FF to be OTT. Just the way that panned out. For BB to do it, well it doesn't work. Submarine in FF is big ending....here it's a crocodile and even then meh.
It all looks like a film designed to chuck out some crap plot, disguise it as Bad Boys and try and rake in the money.
There are some chuckle inducing moments in this but all in all there is absolutely nothing original here. The sense of danger seems lacking. Any twists are figured out before you get there.
It's like Eddie Murphy once said, and to paraphrase, if all I did was come on stage and swear and swear and said goodnight then you'll be disappointed. I gotta throw jokes in there too.
This film has swearing without the humour. Like just saying mother Hubbard alone, and a lot, is supposed to be on it's own funny....the swearing disguising amiss poor punchline.
I hate to say it, but this is boring.
It took me 4 sit down sessions to get through this film. Completely forgettable.....and the last film wasn't. I still remember that awesome action sequence at the end.
Honestly, if you miss this one out, you won't be missing out on much.
There is even an end credit scene which frankly is so bad that leaving it out would actually improve the film (by 0.000001%).
