I didn't know what I was getting into watching this movie as most these days are very much sub-par, focusing on Communist rhetoric in the form of feminism, queer theory, diversity, etc. But this one reminds me of the movies perhaps from the 1990s, a gritty homicide mystery with psychological threads leading to a suspenseful unravelling at the end without leaving the audience ripped off with some kind of 'reveal' that was impossible for anyone to figure out on their own. Whether you like to try and figure out the mystery on your own, or just go along for the ride with the main character, this is a great watch.
I could see it coming in the first episode, but crossed my fingers that the writers weren't going to use the standard Writing For Dummies book. This kind of wife character is SO tiresome, in fiction and in real life. She pushes her husband to work hard, to put in extra hours, to get that promotion, then one day, she tells him he works too much, isn't home enough, that he's neglecting her. On one hand she says she's a strong interdependent woman and doesn't need a man, then on the other she can't do things by herself, she needs help. Uuug, so sick of female characters like this. Yeah, I know they're quite common in real life, but there are lots of very understanding supportive and strong women who actually can step-up and do things without being a cry baby about it, you know, like all women in the past who had no problem at all raising kids while the father worked -- that's your #1 job as a mother, to be a mother, just do it. "Who cares about the dead people and the murderer who's on the loose, I want you to forget about them and focus on me." Makes me wish this character is next on the killer's list. I'm sure the father would still catch the killer with the baby in his backpack.
The premise had potential. The design of the robot was interesting to look at. The writing was terrible: again, yet another show where people don't do anything normal people would do, make the most terrible choices at nearly every turn, don't say the things normal people would say. There were a few times where it seemed the writing got better, maybe that episode was written by different people, then everything went downhill yet again, then right off a cliff into absurdity. It's one of those shows where we sent most our time yelling at the screen, "Oh my god, why would anyone do that??!!" "That's so stupid, what an idiot!! Over and over. By the last episode we were begging for it to end. Please end.
