I loved this movie for all the reasons mentioned in the other highly rated reviews. Loved the lack of phony conflict, and the progressive sweet relationship between the two leading characters.
I understand the disappointment of some Norwegians regarding the lack of exact authenticity; I feel similarly when movies are supposedly set in Colorado or Montana, and are glaringly very wrong, especially if they are actually filmed in another place. (If you have ever lived in or visited Kalispell, MT and watched the 12 Men of Christmas, you kind of want to throw up; the story was stupid and the acting was really bad and there were so many "not ever in Montana" things in that film). And Hallmark's attempt to make the National Park movies...the Glacier Park one was ridiculous at some points, but again, it wasn't even filmed in the US and the whole story was set in a town they represent as "nearby" Glacier Park, when it is much, much farther away!!
So, this one is actually filmed in the town it is set in, and if you step back and enjoy the non-typical story line in this well-written and well-acted story, it is delightfully rich in mystery, history, culture, traditions and a couple of very sweet love stories.
Bad acting, typical Hallmark drama, and fake film location = a bad movie. This movie has great acting, a sweet, genuine story, an authentic location, and genuine traditions. I live in a location where there are many, many Norwegians, and I know enough of culture and traditions to truly enjoy this movie. I know that in the US we have many different traditions and cultural variations from region to region within our country. I can only imagine that, while this movie is set in Bergen, the writers were trying to represent a broad spectrum of Norwegian culture, not specifically only the ones of Bergen. If this was a documentary about Bergen and their Norwegian traditions or a movie about a true story from Bergen, there would be a reason to complain. But the purpose of this movie was a sweet couple of love stories that develop and come to light, amidst a family history search and the wonderful awakening of learning the traditions of a new culture.
It is a lovely story. PLEASE do watch this movie. It is one of Hallmark's better movies.

I loved this movie. It incorporated a deep Faith, with the silliness of the city boy in the country, the ex-boyfriend protagonist, nervous boyfriend asking her dad for his daughter's hand in marriage. What I loved was how the characters worked through life situations with prayer. Not preachy, just gentle conversations. Even the protagonist and boyfriend end up apologizing and shaking hands. It was a fun movie but also encouraging and faith-building. It left us with some things to think about. Judd Nelson and Eva LaRue were fun as the very cityfied parents of the boyfriend. Faith Ford and Ted McGinley were great in their roles as parents who model living by faith day by day, in their lives on the farm.
I just loved this movie.
I just loved this movie.
We just watched this 2021 movie and we loved it! It has a wonderful story line, low drama, and great acting. I especially like the "adult" and sensitive handling of situations and relationships such as loss of a parent/spouse, pushy girlfriend wanna be, potential step-child relationship, and parent/adult children relationships. Even the protagonist's actions in the end were a nice surprise.
I also loved the dialog between the girl and her father about her music teacher. She was very sensitive and mature. Kudos to the writer.
I LOVED it! I wish all script writers would take a lesson and lose the high school - type drama and manipulation that is often prevalent in romance movies.
