RachelMary2's rating
I like Natalie Dormer, but not in this. It was one of those series that relies on violins to create a sense of drama and a repeated set of facial expressions from the main actors (especially her!) that end up being quite boring.
If they hadn't tried to stretch this to 8 episodes it could have been good- all the elements were there with a strong cast, etc. And it was interesting to see a South African series and setting.
The character of Jamie was of particular annoyance, there was a subtlety with the other characters that I didn't feel from her. The last episode, which I'd felt dragged into and relief to finally get there, was a let down. It's like someone pressed half speed from episode two and then fast forward right at the end. Unsatisfying.
There was also a sense of imbalance with the characters. Several were really intriguing, like Robert, but their stories were sort of forgotten about and instead we returned to less intriguing facial expressions. There were also plot elements that were just nonsensical- an example of a series where less would have been more.

Just no. I made it through most of episode 6 and decided life was too precious and too short.
I was lured into watching by the promise of something "like Fargo". Fargo is brilliant. This is not.
I think it's supposed to be clever but I was basically bored. I didn't care about any of the characters or the story. Maybe this one of those Marmite programmes that you get out you don't, but I'm firmly in the don't category if that's the case. It really seems like it thinks it's cleverer than it is. Dull is the word really.
I kept watching hoping it would get better given the rating here- but no. Just no.

I don't really know what I was expecting, but wanted to see Zendaya on something other than Dune because her talent is obviously impressive, she's so watchable on screen.
But what was this? I'm evidently missing something. I was bored, especially during the second half. The have a conversation, touch each other, play some music, look at each other, play tennis (not necessarily in that order) format very quickly felt formulaic. It just wasn't very entertaining watching a series of exchanged looks and storytelling using the actors' eyes. At points it felt like a very long Uniqlo advert with a jarring score.
The intensity I had been led to expect just wasn't there for me, there wasn't the necessary tension or investment in the characters and the ultimate outcome. Disappointing.
