Remember in the 90's when these studios were pumping out these live-action adaptations of classic animated series? Most of them were awful including this one. This was a horrible movie and a bad adaptation of the cartoon. Did the people who made this even watch the cartoon? Not only is Matthew Broderick horribly miscast as Inspector Gadget, his acting absolutely terrible and unconvincing. His performance is downright embarrassing. Dr. Claw was never shown in the cartoon we just heard his voice. In the movie we see his face and body for the entire movie. Penny was an insult. Her character was crucial in the animated series, but here she was useless and did absolutely nothing. You could cut her character out the movie and nothing vaule was lost. Michelle Tractenberg was also miscast. There was no chemistry between Matthew Broderick and love interest Joely Fisher. DL Hughley is obnoxious as the voice of the talking car. Typical jive talking black guy. The movie is poorly directed, goofy sound effects, it's not funny, and the movie was wayyyy too short! This movie is only 1 hour and 10 minutes and that's not including the end credits.... This movie stinks! Just watch the original animated series from the 80's.
This has to be in my top ten worst horror remakes! This came at a time whne Hollywood was churning out an assembly line of the horrible remakes of classic horror films of the 70s and 80s. This is by far one of the worst. First of all, if you're gonna remake something make it fresh and do something different. Just like that garbage Psycho remake from 1998, the Omen (2006) is another pointless shot for shot remake of the original film. Poor casting compared to the original. Gregory Peck and Lee Remnick gave great performances in the original. Liev Schrieber is sleeping walking through his performance and just waiting for his paycheck. Julia Styles is horribly miscast. She's not belivable as a mother of a young child, the wife of an ambassador and she's way too young. Schrieber and Stiles have zero chemistry and I don't buy them as a married couple. They were too on the nose with chosing a child actor who is way too creepy and evil looking. Damien in this version is way too aware of what he's doing. In the original, he was a normal looking cute kid who wasn't aware of what he was doing. Everything is exactly the same including the dialogue and death scenes. All the death scenes are watered down and not as shocking as they was in the original film. The director also throws in the typical lame MTV jump scares and shaky camera. This remake is a waste of time and money. Just watch the classic original film and it's decent sequel Damien: Omen ll.
God, what a terrible movie. So much bad stuff happened with film behind the scenes. It was filmed in 2017, supposed to come out in 2019, but had poor testing screenings, had numerous reshoots, they replaced the director with another one for the reshoots, Tom outright refused to promote the film and has basically disowned it. What a hot mess! And it shows big time with the final product.
So many things that didn't make sense and wasted so many talented actors. Honestly, I watched this movie because I'm a huge Tom Holland fan, but dude needs to fire his agent or pick better scripts because Cherry and this movie are getting trashed by critics. Tom Holland plays a young man named Todd Hewitt in a dystopian hell world where you can hear and see what everyone around you is thinking. And Daisy Ridley shows up as a refugee named Viola from another planet who is looking for a place to call home. Yawn.... More generic YA garbage!
None of the characters are interesting and are horribly written/underdeveloped. Mads Mikkelson, David Owyelo, Cynthia Ervio, Demain Bercheir, Nick Jonas are all wasted in thankless role where they get nothing to do or serve no purpose. So many unanswered question surrounding the Viola character. And Daisy Ridley is an empty charisma vaccum. I can't stand her or her bad acting. This film has an $100 million budget, but where the hell did it go? This has to be one of the most ugliest and dour looking films I ever see. Too much shaky camera bs, the costume designs are unappealing, unnecessary animal cruetly, zero chemistry between Holland and Ridley. They looked really uncomfortable together in their final scenes in the film. The ending was rushed and abrupt. This whole movie goes nowhere and is complete waste of an 1 hour and 48 minutes.
Don't waste your time.
