Last Letters Home: Voices of American Troops from the Battlefields of Iraq (2004)
If cowardice has a name...
From this director, I once had the opportunity to watch the good and worthy "Dear America: Letters Home From Vietnam", an honest elegy to USA'n soldiers who fought and died in that thought-provoking War. So, I was not really prepared to watch this Iraq thing!
Right, let us examine the matter: the most powerful military nation that ever existed in this poor, sad little planet called Earth, fighting a "War" (sic) against the people of one of the most impoverished countries in the world....
High-tech stuff and push-button soldiers against rotten men with their old (if had any) shotguns! And then, comes Mr. Couturie (or whatever) and make a movie to "honour" the oh!, so poor!, and so brave (and so few) push-button USA'n soldiers who were victimized by the nasty!, heartless! rotten starving soldiers (and by the friendly fire...) of Sadam!
Maybe Mr. Couturie should make a movie to "honour" the half-a-dozen USA'n soldiers killed in Granada too! That glorious war...! Why not? I don't know what kind of public watch this kind of Americana rubbish, but i had the opportunity to have a look at it through P2P and really got sick (and angry).
These people should be ashamed of glorifying cowardice only because the cowards are their own co-patriots. Really pompous, unfair and ultimately disgusting.
Watch this one only if your sense of Justice went off for a ride...
2 out of 10.
Red Planet Mars (1952)
Another one for the garbage truck of history.
This one has its merits in building a fairly interesting sci-fi story, out of a small budget, but the cold war sub-tones are maniqueists and ultimately ridiculous, trashing what could have been a good sci-fi exercise.
Americans are the "God's elected people"(sic) and soviets are the devilish atheists ones, and the RED martians are ... Christian messengers from outer space!
No way, pal!

Un été à Saint-Tropez (1983)
Masterpiece of an artist!
Just saw this movie in Internet and I'm still under the influence of the magic Hamilton achieved here. No dialogs, no apparent plot, looking more like a looooong Playboy (or whatsoever) clip shot by a professional photographer than really a movie.
But the result... Magic! Hard not being affected by so much beautifulness. Eight lovely teenagers moving around the screen, in clothes or naked, during almost an hour feels like hitting the Heavens! Be that as it may, when you look for a Hamilton movie, you're looking for what is plenty shown on this one: young women. That's all the film is about, and is all the film has to offer you: beautiful young women. If this is what you are looking for, then this one is for you. And is the best he did, unfortunately the last one. It's a shame that this kind of work of art cannot be done anymore.
10 out of 10, because it's the last one of it's genre!
Maladolescenza (1977)
Justified controversy.
I'm glad to see the controversy of this movie is reflecting on the comments too. That means it's really one of the most controversial movies ever, and only because it deals with underage sexuality in a very graphic manner and their natural cruelty. Only because?!!! Yes, only because of that! Why not?! Or anyone here still think teens or even children have no sexuality, or are not capable of having cruel intentions? In what planet are you living, humm?
Talking about the movie, it is really very idyllic, with eerie photography and music, and the only three teenager actors acting like they were in a Greek tragedy. By the way, the "climate" of the film reminds me of long time ago read Greek and Roman pastoral stories. Perhaps, this is not simple coincidence, who knows? As far as I know, the director was never invited to explain what he intended while doing this one. They were very busy, inviting him for prosecution... All in all, it's not a great movie, but is hard to forget once you give it a try, due to the haunting atmospherics and, perhaps, the sexual content, like in those old pastoral poems I mentioned before. On the other hand, it's a shame that movies in this line cannot be done anymore because of hypocrisy, what makes me think whether we are really evoluting, or the contrary...
7 out of 10, for it's courageous (although exploitative)and unique portrait of youth.
