This film is trope after trope after trope after trope.
Whilst this is very much a paint by numbers romcom, it's actually very enjoyable. All of the characters are rather two dimensional, nothing happens in the film at all that is a surprise, but I found myself invested in the story and really rather enjoyed it.
This really isn't the kind of film that is likely to go on and win any awards, but for an evening curled up on the sofa with a glass of wine it's really quite cute. It addresses love, mental health, self doubt and I don't think it can be classified as a spoiler if I tell you it has a happy ending.

Based on the title, graphics and casting, I had expected this to be a Rom Com, but aside from one moment towards the end of the film where people are running through the streets of London with a wedding dress, where it gets very 'Love Actually', it isn't that at all.
It's actually quite dark, looking at love, unconventional love, grief, loss and how to handle it all.
There's a great cast and a really solid story, but it just never knows what it wants to be as a film. There are some cute moments, some really earnest moments and definitely some touching parts of the story.... But it flips back and forth rather confusingly and Gemma's (Aisling Bea) relationship with her friends and family changes on a dime without explanation, almost as though some scenes were lost in the edit.
That being said, it's well worth a watch, just not on a night when you want to watch something light and fluffy.

Unlike many reviewers on here, I loved that this episode was a homage to Rear Window.
Even though the story was heavily inspired by the film, I was on the edge of my seat for the entire hour and it made for great television.
It wasn't at the expense of the main show either, as this story actually helped move on the character development and there was a nice little twist at the end of the episode that was worth waiting for.
I've really enjoyed watching Whitstable Pearl and the fact that they can randomly do something like this in the middle of a season makes it a really fun show.
Well done to all involved.
