He's All That (2021)
Just Skip It
Honestly, the writing is a little stilted, the story is cliche, and some of the supporting actors arent great. However, that was all true of the original. The main issue here is the main character. As everyone else has said, Adisson Rae is not an actress. But the fault belongs to whomever hired her and let this happen. This movie could have been mildly successful if that one change had been made. As it is, I would suggest you skip it unless you love the tiktoker.
Christmas by the Book (2018)
Bland
There is not much to add that has not already been said by others. This movie is bland and the chemistry is lacking between the two leads. It really wasn't clear who the lead male, Ted, liked. Ted's girlfriend/exgirlfriend was a confusing character because she seemed to vacillate between low-grade evil to manipulative to confused but good-hearted. I would compare this film to flavorless cotton candy, it didn't provide enjoyment but wasn't particularly offensive.
Once Upon a Date (2017)
Secondary Couple was Far Superior
I rarely have found a made for tv romantic comedy I didn't enjoy. Like the others who reviewed this film, I found the main couple somewhat bland. If they had been the only story in the film, I would have stopped watching. However, I thought the B storyline with the brother and landlord to be very cute and worth watching. They elevated this movie and would have done so further if the movie was all about them.
Robin Hood (2018)
Fun and Entertaining
Honestly, this is an entertaining action movie. The story is simple but clear and believable. The best part of the movie are the actors who play Robin Hood and the Sherriff. They both do well and are believable. While certainty not sympathetic, Sherriff at least has understandable motivations. This is an original story and it makes sense that Robin would be in his late 20s/early 30s when his story starts. Taron Edgerton is a great actor who can play serious and silly. Here he is a mix of those.
This movie has flaws, if you want to know about those, read one of the numerous one star reviews. I can't understand why people hated Robin Hood so much. Maybe the haters don't belong to the target demographic and are offended at it's existence. Who knows.
It is not the best movie out there but it's not a complete waste of time either. The world is a dark and scary place. This is just a simple treat, like a single candy, not good for you but also not harmful either. For that reason, I enjoy it.
Christmas Wedding Planner (2017)
Fun and Silly and Adorable
Of course this movie requires suspension of disbelief, as do all made-for-tv cheesy Christmas romantic comedies. There are moments that are a little bit insane and moments of true heart. The ending is slightly more ridiculous than most of these moves tend to have but it is still fun. I loved it, the main character was relatable and the love interest was handsome and sweet and charismatic.
Mansfield Park (2007)
Mostly Faithful to the Book
Honestly, Mansfield Park is probably Jane Austen's dreariest novel. Neither the weak heroine nor the clueless hero are worthy of being praised. However, if you want to watch a film adaptation of the novel then this is by far the better choice. While this movie seems to movie quickly and shallowly over major plot points, it does manage to include almost the whole book. Some characters are dropped and one major change is made (my guess is for budgetary reasons). Overall, I got the same feeling from watching this film as I got from reading the novel. I felt like I had accomplished something without really enjoying it. I think Billie Piper does an excellent job of bringing Fanny Price to life by remaining true to her character but making her likable. Most of the other actors are well cast and preform their jobs admirably too. I think this movie is far better than it is given credit for being. The main issue with this movie is it is too close to a book that people generally just don't like.
