Dora and the Lost City of Gold (2019)
Truly fun, classic adventure storytelling
This movie doesn't take itself too seriously and that is very refreshing in these times. It has a good message of optimism and being true to yourself. The main character, Dora, is a nuclear power plant of optimism, a superpower and a direct force for change. The ending song over the credits exemplifies this perfectly.
Star Wars: Episode VIII - The Last Jedi (2017)
Weak story and lacking heart
This movie doesn't feel like Star Wars to me. The original trilogy was a pulp adventure series in space. This move has a more realistic tone, where characters are supposed to feel real and relatable instead of fantastical and larger than life.
There is a theme of overcoming failure, but we aren't really shown characters experience any failure with any emotional impact (instead we are mostly told in flashback or alluded to of these events). And they don't learn much either. It's mostly self pity and shaming. But that doesn't work in a world where you have strange creatures who talk, porgs and lightsabers. They have made Star Wars into Twilight (the one with the teenage vampires). It's a classic young adult movie, where every character is mentally 14 years old and really only cares about themselves and shaming any person they meet (why do Rey expect/demand Luke to train her? why did she attack him when he lied/told his version of what happened? what gives her the right to take the jedi books from the temple? what's up with all the anger?).
Star Trek Continues (2013)
You'll love it or hate it
The production quality on this show is undeniably fantastic. The tone is near spot on. But you would not know this if you are not a fan of the original and/or don't love the now campy nature of the original show. If you didn't laugh at William Shatner's falstaffian character then, you might miss out on this. The biggest understandable complaint that I agree with is the quality of some of the actors. I love the actor playing Kirk. But Spock, Scotty and a few others aren't the best fit. But it's clearly a work of love. I laugh and cheer when I watch this, lovingly.
It's a very good sign that some of the reviews here are either very negative or very positive. It means that they've gone all in, as any artistic endeavour ideally should strive to do.
Flaked (2016)
Underrated and misunderstood
This show is certainly flawed in some aspects, but that is also part of its nature. That might be difficult to understand. It can be a bit of a mess, just like the main character and the spirit of the show.
What is however extremely competent, is the way it is shot. It's gorgeous. The cinematography is probably the best i've ever seen in a TV-show. The way it uses Vence as location and the way they capture light is gorgeous; the orange glow of a low sun shot in natural light on location. the locations and vibe of venice. Together with the use of music this makes a framework that gives the show an inherent quality that few other shows have.

The show is like a mix of The Big Lebowski and Californication, with some added flair of beat literature. You either get those things or not, and sometimes you need time. The show certainly grew on me, and somehow I couldn't stop watching. Enjoy the atmosphere that is beautiful and chill
The show does sometime dip into melodrama a bit too much for my liking, when it should be a bit more comedic than it is. But it is a far more intelligent, mature and artistic show than most. In fact it's probably one of my favourite shows since Treme.
