Fat Girls (2006)
A Cliché Bore
This movie has been done before. It is basically a unoriginal combo of "Napoleon Dynamite" and "Sordid Lives." There are some funny bits, but otherwise it is a cliché bore. It is a good first film attempt and the director (who also stars in and wrote the feature) shows a lot of promise. But the writing was kind of choppy and the story was not very original. I swear I had heard some of the lines in other films. However, the acting was very good and the film was shot in an interesting way. It is also refreshing to see gay-themed movies not be so bogged down with political correctness and tired stories of angst. The main character seemed fairly well adjusted for a gay teen in rural Texas so no saccharine, coming out drama here!
Another Gay Movie (2006)
This Movie Is Great!!!!
This movie just played to sold out houses and rave reviews at the Provincetown International Film Festival. It is not for everyone, namely those that skate towards the politically correct and are in general overly sensitive. This is not a movie for the professionally outraged and offended. It is subversive and albeit filthy and raunchy, but at the same time, believe it or not, is intelligent and skewers the best and worst of modern day gay culture and gay life. It is so refreshing to see a gay movie that doesn't suck, as many, many do. It is fearless and makes no apologies and doesn't try to be anything that it isn't. No angst, no saccharine love story, no overt moral message. Its just good ole fashioned raunch homo humor!
Naked Fame (2004)
Absolutely Hilarious!
If you take this movie to seriously, of course you're going to hate it. Colton Ford has no talent and the documentary is a parade of delusion, with a few moments of clarity. But that is what makes it so funny. A group of about 10 gay guys got together last night to watch it, and first of all, none of us recognized any of the so-called "porn stars" in the movie. In this day, all porn stars look like clones. Secondly, this movie is the equivalent of watching the worst auditions for "American Idol." Actually make that "The Gong Show." Except he takes his pants off in the beginning. My stomach still hurts from laughing at this movie. Worth it for that alone.
Dude, Where's My Car? (2000)
The Kiss
This movie is dumb, so dumb that it often isn't funny. It comes from the 'MTV/Corporate-Let's Make A Dumb Movie And Hope We Make A Lot Of Money" School of Film Making. The only real reason to watch this movie is to see Ashton Kutcher and Seann William Scott kiss....now that is hot!
Standing in the Shadows of Motown (2002)
Joan Osborne Rules in The Doc.
This documentary is worth seeing just to watch Ben Harper and Joan Osborne's performances (Osbourne's rendition of "What Becomes of the Brokenhearted" is AMAZING!)The documentary about quality music is refreshing to watch in this age of over-produced, talentless mainstream musicians and bands.
Sex: The Annabel Chong Story (1999)
Good, But Disturbing
This is a well-done documentary, but it is also very disturbing. While Annabel Chong may claim she sees her recording breaking sex-a-thon was about women's empowerment, what the filmmaker managed to show is that she is a deeply disturbed woman.
Lie Down with Dogs (1995)
This Movie Is An Inside Joke
I agree that this movie is not all that great..some of the acting is lame and production quality pretty poor. However, if you've ever lived in Provincetown for any period of time, particularly a summer, this movie is chock full of inside jokes and experiences that certainly happen in this eccentric part of Cape Cod. Come visit and watch it again.
Midnight Express (1978)
Unfair Depiction of Turkey
This movie is pretty good, but speaking as an American who has lived in Turkey, this movie is a dramatization of a true story. While Turkey certainly has its problems with corruption, this movie is hardly something one should use to form an opinion on Turkey.
