Rebel Moon - Part Two: The Scargiver (2024)
Average
This film is nothing special. The ships look like 70's sci-fi, the part when they revive the general looked bad why do all the medical pipes running into him just have different coloured flashing lights? Looked very low end. The story is unoriginal and the characters are bland. There's a desperate attempt at fleshing them out when they all sit round a table and tell their back stories none of which was interesting or added anything to the story most of it was pretty lame. The weapons were kind of interesting and some of the explosions looked cool but overall this movie is average at best. I remember reading somewhere that this was the directors idea of what star wars should be..... It's no star wars.
The Ark (2023)
Terrible
Terrible plot, terrible writing, terrible characters and terrible acting this is the worst sci-fi I have seen in a very long time. The characters are 2 dimensional along with acting if you were stuck on this ship with this bunch of losers and misfits you'd space yourself. The three lead command lieutenants /facepalm all the characters in this show are very bland stereotypes. Seriously watch any other sci-fi. The only reason I can think that you would put these people onto mankind last hour is that it was a massive global conspiracy to get rid of them, 'yes step on board you're mankinds last hope', 'quick they're all on board launch then quick before they figure out we just trying to get rid of them'......
Dune: Part One (2021)
Gets better with age
The first time I watched this movie it felt slow in a big fan of the original movie and the new one just felt like the pacing was slow. That being said having watched this movie again it is a spectacular movie on rewatching it is going I was more able to take in the the stunning visuals and I enjoyed this movie a lot more the second or even this time round. I personally would really love the creators to make all the books into movies this is definitely a universe I would love to see more of. I would advise anyone who was unsure about this movie the first time round to watch it again it's better than I originally thought. It's the start of an epic story let's just hope they keep it going.
Star Trek: Picard: Farewell (2022)
Farewell feels like the end
The final episode of season 2 and in fact all of season 3 should of been season 3 imo as the final episode feels like closure of it feels like the end of the story season 3 is going to be weird after season 2
Oh well we will have to just wait and see.
The Expanse (2015)
Someone call Netflix
JB saved this show early on and it is not only one of the best sci-fi shows off all time but one of the best tv shows period. How prime cut season 6 sorry it's beyond me. This show has so much more to say and do many more stories to tell it's madness to cut it short. Let's hope Netflix or someone else picks it up. Still no need for Amazon prime anymore this show was the only reason I had it lol.
Edge of Tomorrow (2014)
I love this movie
I've seen this movie a few times in the past and I enjoy it every time it's on. I just watched this movie on my big screen TV with the lights out and it's the first movie on years that actually felt like a spectacular action movie. 8 watch a lot of movies and this one is definitely underrated. I won't give away any spoilers but if you're in the mood for an action packed thrill ride with loads of sci fi then you've just found it. Emily Blunt and Tom Cruise are both amazing in this movie. Well worth watching anytime it's on.
WandaVision (2021)
Slow Burn
The first time I tried to watch this show I got precisely 14 mins into episode one and thought what is this pile of **** and turned it off.
Months later my sister of all people (she's not that into super hero's) said I should push through and keep going, it gets better she said. So today I carried on from where I left off and I got to the end of the first episode and had my previous thoughts confirmed it's trash. Still with my sisters praise still ringing in my ears I thought ok lets see episode 2 TLDR still trash.
By the end of episode 4 however things turn around and the end of the season is nothing short of EPIC.
Stop reading about it and go and watch it, I was wrong at the start you will be too watch it until the end the pay off is worth it :D
Doom: Annihilation (2019)
Oh no
Saw the first review of this movie and the reviewer seemed to think the sets were very doomy I have to disagree. The only doomy things in this movie are the door key cards and umsc logo everything else and I mean everything is trash its like they'd never played any of the games. This movie desperately wants to be Aliens but it misses every mark. The script the acting the overly clean and shiny sets the silly huds in fpv the less than convincing marines. The space ships looked half decent and that's the only nice thing I can say about this movie. The first one suffered by not being an 18 rating despite the game being 18 it was crying out for more gore this one suffered from everything else. Avoid if you can
Vantage Point (2008)
Dreary
Who ever came up with the gimmick of repeating the same 20mins over and over is an idiot after the 3rd time I was hoping it would k move on then the 4th replay and then the 5th at which point I turned it off. Each successive time is supposed to be from a different persons viewpoint but it's BORING very very boring it has a lot of stars in this movie but half way through I gave up not turned a movie off since the Blair witch project which was also yeah but still more watchable than this.
Star Wars: Episode IX - The Rise of Skywalker (2019)
JJ Facepalm
Yet again JJ Abrams shows he's a one trick pony and just doesn't get Star Wars at all. This movie is a cliché of how not to do it, how did Disney employ two such talentless PERSONS (you can replace that with whatever you want) as JJ Abram and Ryan Johnson between them they have destroyed the Star Wars saga.
Rise of the Sky Walker news flash *SPOILER* Ray is a Palpatine, calling yourself a Skywalker at the end doesn't make you one. All the Skywalkers are dead good job JJ nice one. They have managed to miss step in every way with the franchise with episode 7 (REBOOT), 8 (Made by a guy that didn't want to continue the Skywalker Saga and hadn't even watched all the movies) and 9 (DOESNT HAVEA CLUE) they just don't get Star Wars at all. JJ just throws in all the old characters because hey the fans liked them in episodes 4,5 and 6 they'll love it if we bring them all back I don't even know what to say about that. We wanted the story to move forwards, to new thing, to a completion and you gave us one by killing the story stone dead.
I have a huge number of things I wanted to go through in this review but after watching the last movie everything we hoped for has been trashed so I'm actually lost the will it's over and dead and not in a good way.
Gareth Edwards did a great job with Rogue One and for my money Ron Howard did a great job with Solo I would love Disney to actually give us more Solo with Howard at the helm. I know a lot of the Star Wars community didn't like Solo because it didn't have Jedi in it and the timelines are a bit (by a bit I mean VERY) janky but that was a perfect movie for the setup at the end.
The warning signs were there it started with Lost wtf was that show about anyway I lost the will to live after season 3. If anyone at Disney had actually watched that show they would of know not to give this franchise to the reboot monkey Abrams. The guy seriously shows a lack of imagination his story telling is miserable the only thing left in the universe that would make sense was if we found out he advised games of thrones on the scripts for season 8. I may at sometime when I've calmed down and actually add all the things wrong with Episode 9 and theres a LOT of them.
Game of Thrones: The Iron Throne (2019)
Utter trash
All the waiting
All the prophecies
All the theories
All the dreams for the characters
Crushed
This is the worst ending to any TV series a have ever seen. All the character development George RR Martin or into the first 5 books turned to ash as if touched by Drogon himself.
This series of books was a serious contender to be on part with or greater than lord if the rings but with and ending this pathetic destroying all the lore and story it'll fall very very short. What was the point in the others and Jon Snow at all everything was pointless. This season had destroyed the legacy of this the books I really pray George Martin doesn't go with this as the ending and manages to save it.
I only give it one because I can't give it 0
Disappointing, flat a mess of unended stories
Utter garbage
Game of Thrones: The Long Night (2019)
Why the low score?
First watch through this episode I personally wasn't overwhelmed, I didn't see the twist coming but to be honest it makes a mockery of lore in the books. Now having let everyone at work watch the episode (slackers didn't want to get up at 2am) there's a clear divide between the people who have read the books and those that have not. The people that haven't read the books are over the moon that Arya killed the night king how ever the rest of feel like we've been kicked in the stomach. Why? well the 20+ years of fandom and secrets and reveals about Jon, being raised from the dead, being the true heir and what? for nothing that's what.
What a waist of time. From what we've read so far Arya path was to complete her list and Jon's path was to protect the realms of men (and fight the Nights King) all the lore, portents, premonitions and stories were definitely pointing in that direction. You could argue hew that's why its such a great twist but it just weak sloppy and lazy writing. The story of the prince that was promised wielding light bringer has been touted throughout the books and this episode just made a mockery of 20+ years of storylines. The show also didn't give any explanation at all why the Night King would target bran over anyone else, or why he'd even walk into such an obvious trap and killed at the very first attempt. I'll come back to this lets get into the battle.
Splitting the episode into 3 sections thriller horror and action just totally screwed any pacing in the episode it was a poor choice. Especially the horror section (yep that was what the library bit was meant to be) but since it started with action and had zombies the whole way through it just fails.
I didn't like Avenger Infinity Wat but if you want an lesson in how to pace a story watch Avengers End Game as it was done to perfection. Infinity war had a battle that seemed to drag and never end and got boring but End Game nailed the pacing to perfection 3hrs just flew by. Whereas this episode was the longest GoT episode at 80-90 mins it felt like 3hrs and not in a good way. Mostly due to awful pacing and slow lack lustre combat.
I understand that the Night King brought the storm but you can hardly see any of whats going on and when you do the fighting seems lack lustre and dull. When Jon finally falls of his barely controllable dragon he meanders round the battle field and through Winterfell stumbling and staggering like a 70 year old drunk, in fact almost everyone's movements are laboured and seem slow. If you want to see how a fight for your life would go check out Ned fighting Ser Arthur Dayne at the tower of joy now that was a great fight nothing in this episode was even close. It was dull and boring and pretty much everyone lived. 40,000 Dothraki screamers dead within 20 seconds but everyone with a name on the front line of the infantry survives? Brien gets taken down Jamie gets her up Jamie gets taken down Brien get him up and again and again. Brien has outstayed her usefulness she should be dead already. And Ghost you seem him cantering into the fight for about 5 seconds and again nothing... he does nothing he's not even in it again. As for the people that do die Ser Beric Dondarrion raised from the dead 7 times by the lord of light to die how? standing in front of some zombies for 2 seconds to let Arya run passed? it was hardly a Hodor moment in fact it was so fast as to me almost completely missed and meaningless. Sir Jora dying defending Danny again the combat looked laboured, slow and dull (not as bad a Brien but right up there) at least he went doing what he was supposed too. I know we have an enemy that can raise the dead lets put all the weakest people who need protecting in the crypt with all the dead bodies REALLY is that your best idea? sigh. Theon protecting Bran was almost good right up until the point he charges the Night King and gets instantly killed without a fight.
Speaking of which lets get onto the Night King a super powerful undead being that gets killed at the very first time of trying (ignoring Theon), think about it he hasn't actually fought anyone hand to hand in the entire series. He's supposed to be some bad ass warrior with magical abilities who's been building his army and planning for thousands of years and at no point do you actually see him fight anyone. Nor do his generals in this battle for that matter. And he walks into Winterfell and gets killed without even putting up a fight. REALLY? /facepalm.
Well I would think this will make George RR Martin happy as people will stop asking him when the next books will be out because after this garbage no one will want to read them. That'll save me some money. One of my colleagues
couldn't of put it better today this episode was to Got what "The Last Jedi" was to Star Wars. A tragic disaster that turns fans away.
As for who wins the iron throne NO ONE CARES.
My prediction Hot Pie turns up offers to cook for everyone and then poisons everyone and is the last man standing since were ignoring all the lore it's as likely as anything.
Star Trek: Discovery: Such Sweet Sorrow, Part 2 (2019)
Spectacular ending
A few friends and I have been speculating on the finale and how they were going to deal with the spore drive and time travel with regard to the existing star trek timelines and I for one was happy with how the writers wrapped up this season and gave us an explanation for why discovery, the spore drive and time travel weren't in the following trek timelines. I think that the writers did about as good a job as we could of hoped for. There were just a couple of moments that felt slow and at odds with the urgency and pace of this episode but on the whole it wrapped up the season nicely.
I'm really trying not to give away any spoilers :D I for one can't wait for the next season.
OK sort of spoiler coming up - stop reading now if you haven't watched it yet
stop
now
I predicted that season 3 would be Voyager type adventure in the future (not really a spoiler pretty obvious really if you've been following the story up until now) lets hope that the storytelling in season 3 will be as good as it has been up to now.
All things said a really good job well done to all involved

Star Wars: Episode VIII - The Last Jedi (2017)
Starwars died with the release of this movie
WARNING SPOILERS!!!!
If this were any other movie it would be a mediocre movie as a star wars movie this awful it has effectively killed off the whole storyline one movie too early. The script from the start was weak as was the plot. The characters kept saying weird things out of character for a star wars movie they seemed to like the word spark a lot. It looked like a star wars movie, it sounded like a star wars movie it was actually pretty lame and I will join the many legion of fans that have been gutted by this and the force rebooted. We waited 40 years to find out what happened with the Skywalker saga only to be spoon fed this load of tosh.
They tried to patch up holes in the first movie with one liners, you were upset Kylo how did you let a girl with no light sabre training beat you in the last movie blah blah and throw in comedy one liners all over the place and cute little critters to merchandise no doubt.
The script is so bad and the story so off the mark that you can't help thinking that whoever wrote it has a) never watched star wars b) doesn't know the story of star wars and c) is an idiot
Do Disney even know that there's another movie left they've killed everyone off. Snoke the big bad get's cut in two by Kylo with hardly a thought and the rebels sorry resistance (to me they will ALWAYS be the rebel alliance but not to Disney) are down to their last 12 men. Pity Po has survived he's a very very lame ass character they have jammed him in at the expense of Fin and Reys story they should of stuck to their guns and killed him off in the first movie, but no of all the idiot,s pointless lame characters to make it through Po's still there. Luke doesn't teach Rey anything other than the big hole is evil she goes in anyway and then Luke vanishes like Mark Hamill with a huge pay check off to the Bahamas.
Disney has turned this into a weak poorly written load of junk just like the game Batttle Front 2 they've just put out.
IMO if you're new to this franchise watch Rogue one then episodes 4 5 and 6 and tbh maybe even episode 1 and then skip the rest.
That's me done with star wars no more games or movies gg Disney a 40 yeah fan who doesn't want to watch anymore of your train wrecks.
Blade Runner 2049 (2017)
Boring - Contains Spoilers (right at the end sort of)
After the disappointment of the force rebooted this was the only other film this year I was actually waiting to see so it was with high hopes and fingers crossed that I went to the cinema today to watch this movie. Sadly it would seem I had my second movie disappointment of the year.
The plot for this movie wanders around and doubles back trying to make you think one thing and then another slowly and drearily getting to the only point it has to make right at the very end. The pacing is slow and tedious and not a patch on the original movie with non of the originals edge.
As for the aesthetic in places it almost looks like the first movie but misses and then in others its miles away. Very few of the scenes looked like they could of been placed in the original most looked like wannabee copies and somehow just fail to come upto the original.
It's not the fault of the actors it just doesn't feel like they were given much to work with. The over concept is a great idea however the execution is sadly lacking.
The whole movie felt lame and drawn out like 30 mins of story spread over 163 mins of film, there were loads of long meandering slow scenes and should of ended up on the cutting room floor they just destroyed the pacing. At one point I actually closed my eyes and thought I might just fall asleep only to hear snoring from another viewer behind me which made me laugh.
Goslings and Fords performances were great considering how little they had to work with and Jared Leto felt menacing but very very under utilised. Ana de Armas is stunning and played her part well as were/did Mackenzie Davis and Sylvia Hoeks (there's no way you'd want to be on the wrong side of Luv).
Overall the movie felt too long, too slow and not enough story which is a shame as the plot seemed almost decent.
SPOILERLY BIT Making K/Joe think he was the one and then it turning out not to be him was just lame and not done very well at all.
This movie isn't worth paying to see wait until it's on your favourite streaming service.
Just a note to the movie industry who claim many many things are killing the movie business I think the one thing that actually is killing the movie business is lack of originality/reboots/remakes and just general tardiness. I've not seen a good original movie for ages or a sequel that does justice to the original movie/series.
Alien: Covenant (2017)
Bland and boring
I have been a huge Alien/Aliens fan since the first film came out. The first movie was a great movie there are still parts of it that make me jump and I have seen it many times. The only movie to surpass Alien was Cameron's Aliens.
This movie is a desperate attempt to give some credibility to Prometheus which was plot disaster of a movie.
This movie has none of the tension of Alien which set the gold standard in this genre for horror/jump scare movies and it misses the pace of and action of Aliens which again is a gold standard for an action/horror movies.
Out of all the Aliens movies I would consider Aliens to be the best then Alien and I would give all of the rest a miss including Prometheus and this junk it's pretty boring. Ridley is trying to re-establish himself as the owner and king of this franchise but he's fallen short again. Prometheus was a feast for the eyes with the weakest plot you could imagine. This movie tries to prop up that pile of junk and suffers for it. SPOILER David being the big villain of the movie was just weak. I'd watch Alien then Aliens and then move on.
Skip this movie
The Walking Dead: The Day Will Come When You Won't Be (2016)
Gore for the sake of it
This episode was needlessly gross I've been a fan of the show from the start but the shows been a bit weak story wise for a couple of seasons and we all knew Negan wasn't going to be a nice guy but the screen with Glen was a line that didn't need to be crossed yep he killed Glen but it was just a bit too graphic and I know the show makers pride themselves on seeing what they can get away with and making the stuff with Negan as brutal as possible could of been done better they're just relying on being gross now. The effects have always been gory but it just seems now like the gore is more important than the plot. I was at work day in our canteen and the general consensus of the people who watched it thought it was too much. Tbh if the show continues like this then thank God I've got Westworld to watch.
Westworld (2016)
Awesome
AMG!!!!
I can't do this one episode a week rubbish GIVE ME THEN ALL NOW!!!!
I've just watched episode two and I already know this is going to be a show that I am going to be watching for a very long time to come. It's difficult to talk about the show without spoilers and I'm going to have to just bite my tongue all I can say is this looks like it's shaping up really great I just hippie this show fulfils on half of its promise and it'll still be awesome.
Right time to stop typing before I spoil something can't wait for next...
Having watched all three sessions I still like this show season one was epic and season two I thought was also great, season 3 I also liked but the first two episodes I've watched twice and I still don't know what's going on in those episodes then season 3 just plods on to a predictable end. It could of gone so many different ways there was so much potential from the first two seasons but it didn't deliver like the first two. I would still recommend watching the show its decent I think the hate for season three that is a bit of an over reaction the expectation after seasons one and two was so high and season three just want as good a solid 6/7 not like the 9/10 for season one and 8/9 for season two. Give it a go it's still way better than the end of Game of Thrones
Point Break (2015)
Terrible
I don't write reviews very often for me to write a review of film usually it needs to be exceptionally good or exceptionally bad, sadly this movie falls into category of the latter its exceptionally bad. The original 1991 version of this movie is an absolute classic great acting great story phenomenal cast really well put together this version is none of those things it's really bland and just a weak excuse of showing off extreme sports in a really bad light if you really want to watch a great movie go and watch the original its head and shoulders above this, this is a 3 at best even if the original had never been made and this would still be a 3. The characters are weak and the story is badly written coupled with the weak acting and an over reliance on not very interesting extreme sports this movie was always doomed to fail. The original is a classic heist movie this one is a lame advert for extreme sports. There is very little plot in between the all the crap I keep expecting to see red bull adverts everywhere lame lame lame
Star Wars: Episode VII - The Force Awakens (2015)
It's a NEW HOPE again!!!! (Contains Spoilers)
I'm a huge Star Wars fan and I went to see the new movie last night and I was loving it right up until the end, an X-Wing trench run to a vulnerable spot on the death sorry sunkiller base as soon as this happened I was instantly snapped out of the movie and right away it made me look at the movie and yeah JJ has does in Star Wars exactly what he did in Star Trek and rebooted it telling the same story. Don't get me wrong I Love the Trek reboots but I was expecting more from Star Wars. Think I'm wrong? Lets take a look OK starts with Rey left alone on a desert planet (Luke on Tatooine) then BB2 stranded on the same planet (R2D2) with sagely advise being given out by Max von Sydow's character (Obi-Wan), with the secret plans being hidden inside BB8 who has to get back to Lea and this just the beginning we even jam in a new cantina scene the movie carries on like this throughout and that for me just makes foe lazy lazy storytelling by JJ. The new Han Solo role seems to have been divided between Fin and Po I could go on for the whole movie (totally untrained Rey can do Jedi mind control THESE AREN'T THE DROIDS YOU'RE LOOKING FOR. A few more things the music and sound effects weren't up to the mark either the Star Wars music is a classic as soon as you hear it you heart speeds up but in the new movie they have a softened down version which is weak and doesn't have the same effect I found it very underwhelming and lack lust even with the Falcon flying around. Kylo-Ren also is about as menacing as two day old semolina pudding the scene where he kills Han to push himself away from the light should of been dark and menacing instead it was totally underwhelming for such a significant event it was just badly acted tbh KR throughout the who movie was weak reminding me CH in ep's 2 & 3. Oh and another waist of space Captain Phasma what a non-sense waist of time character she is. I think once fans get over the hype of a new Star Wars film this one will slot in as the 4th or 5th best yes even for my money the Phantom Menace wasn't bad.
I've just been watching videos on youtube about making studio size model kits and I got so excited for Star Wars I love it. Then I think about this movie and I get sad this movie sucks the more you watch it. I hope 8 is better please please please don't suck
Sabotage (2014)
Awful
There are some pretty actors in this movie which is badly let down but the horrendous directing, editing, filming and script. The acting is a little strained but I put that down to a poor plot and script this could of easily been a good movie if the talent behind the camera had matched the potential of the talent in front of it. That being said no one puts in a stellar performance.
There is a glut of shaking cam filming constantly through the film with some of the worst cuts and editing I have seen most youtubers do a better job than this.
Save yourself the time and money and don't waist either on this pile of crap.
I would imagine that all of the actors in this train wreck will be distancing themselves from this as fast as they can.
Predestination (2014)
Mediocre with a bad plot
This could of been a nice fresh take on the time travel storyline but it is entirely predictable. The paradox is impossible and completely flawed you couldn't come into being spontaneously grow up go back in time change go back in time to meet yourself then become both of your parents. You would of had to of had parents in order to exist in the first place which makes it not a paradox at all but bad story telling lazy lazy lazy. Not only that but you're the hero and your future self was the villain that was the only remotely interesting part of the whole thing that was even remotely plausible in a completely fantasy time travel way. Nothing in this movie was remotely interesting.
If you're and Ethan Hawke fan then go and watch day breakers or assault on precinct 13 or gattaca he's brilliant in all three, the latter two especially this however you could miss and you'd be all the happier for it.
Transformers: Age of Extinction (2014)
Boring
Well it's that time of year again when we all get to go out and watch the summer blockbusters and they've managed to do in this film exactly what they did in the others its a 2.5hr movie with a 15 min fight at the end stretched over 45-55 mins. It's so dull I got totally bored watching it, it just turned into the fight that would never end. They clearly have been given big cgi budgets from the studio and boy do they mean to use all of it just like the other transformers movies this means that you have to sit through 1 long fight for a hour at the end of the movie which does nothing to push the mediocre plot forward. I can only assume the producers have shares in the companies that do all the cgi. Just like the others you could cut 45 mins of meaningless crap out of the end of this movie and lose nothing not that there's a lot to lose all of these transformers movies have paled in comparison to the story telling and plot lines in the cartoons they such dull movies they should change the names to transformers 1-4 when cgi goes bad and issue you with a sleeping pill when you enter the movie theatre then again them movie is more than dull enough to fulfil that task. If you've seen any of the others skip it you've seen it already.
Divergent (2014)
Hmmm I used to trust IMDb scores.
This movie is the hunger games which I can totally see why they made it because THG made a bazillion dollars god knows how as it's total crap and since this movie is designed squarely at that market it's pretty close to THG and such is pretty crap itself. I thought this was a stand alone movie but checking IMDb they are making 2 3 and 4 in the same ilk as THG /facepalm.
I also have another issue with the rating on this movie I have just read through loads and loads of user reviews on IMDb for this and there are 3 6's maybe 2 or 3 over 6 and hundreds of 3 or less scores but the score on IMDb is a 7.1????? how does that work???? 95% of the reviews for this movie are terrible and rate it really low but it's getting a 7.1???? Anyway it just shows how strong the teenage girl market is because this is squarely where this film is targeted. The rot set in with twilight then the hunger games jumped in behind and now this. Well I'm this is going to make a lot of rich studio execs even richer GUYS YOU HAVE MORE MONEY THAT YOU CAN SPEND STOP MAKING THIS CRAP!!!!
