First of all the acting is fantastic. The performances really sucked me in and it was really cool how each episode is filled as one long camera shot. This is a very important story being told here and there's a lot to be said, but they cram it all in to 4 episodes and I think it would have been better if they had spread the story out a bit more. For example, they should have included a flashback episode before the murder happened so we could have seen it all played out. Would have been interesting to see the interactions play out between Katie and Jamie and all the other kids. It would have been nice to see more of Katie's story since she was the victim of all this- which is ironic that that is something the female cop referred to in episode 2-that when things like this happen, you always remember the guys name but forget the victim. And this show does the same thing.
And frankly left me feeling disappointed. People who are saying this is the "best movie of the year" need to watch some other movies!!! It wasn't necessarily a "bad" movie, the cinematography was beautiful and the performance by Mickey was excellent. But the writing is very sloppy, and there isn't a whole lot of depth in the film (which is disappointing because I was expecting SO MUCH more). For example, at least half the film is just the Russian mob guys being like "have you seen this guy? Have you seen this guy?" It wastes a lot of time and does NOTHING to drive the plot. Could have used some heavy editing during that portion of the film.
I love movies that are smart and have something to say, especially when they're stylish too. Really appreciated a lot of the camera angles and tricks throughout the movie, very clever cinematography, set designs, and costumes. Obviously the acting was incredible. It's Demi Moore, say less! Margaret Qualley was also great and I'd like to see her in more films.
As a woman, I related to so many things in this movie. The remarks and behavior of the men, especially when in front of a "pretty young thing", and also from the women's' perspective. Sometimes, it's just nice to see a movie portray feelings and emotions that can be hard to put into words.
The movie reminded me of a mix of "Neon Demon" and the original "Evil Dead". Probably not for everyone, but it was right up my alley.
Buckle up, this movie is a WILD ride.
