SLC Punk! (1998)
Pretty much how it was
I saw a review that said this movie wasn't realistic then buddy you weren't there. This movie was my life in high school, from nazi asses, to mods, rockers and hicks. All the characters were like people I knew, I guess I'm a poser because I grew out of it just like the main character but if you want to see a movie about American punks in the late 70's early 80's then this is THE movie. Most other movies are documentaries check out decline of western civilzation for this. This movie is very well written with a great soundtrack, I think there were maybe 3 songs I didn't know but all the ones I did really brought me back. I even busted out some of my old albums,,,that's right I still have 'em although not fun at the end but isn't that like life anyway. 8 out of 10 but for what it is,, it's a 10
An Alan Smithee Film: Burn Hollywood Burn (1997)
If you like Spinal Tap & Waiting for Guffman see this movie
How could this many people hate a film so much? I'm giving it a 10 just so the average will go up a little. If you liked spinal tap and Waiting for Guffman then this movie is a must, but like spinal tap, it's all about dialog, like Stallone's observation of the immaculate conception in the Rocky movies truely great. If you are looking for a great action movie with big stars then the joke is on you. This is maybe the most realist portrail of how the movie business works maybe that's why people don't like this movie because it takes all the "magic" out it and shows how the public is completely "played" by the movie companies (people don't like it when a movie shows how easily the general public is manipulated). Much like another movie everybody hated "the last action hero" cars don't blow up when you shoot them, chances are you'll break your hand trying to punch your way through a windshield etc..
I laughed all the way though this movie from the first 5 seconds till the end (When I realized I had been duped). Maybe americans can't get it but I guess I was lucky. This is Ryan O' Neil's best role in years and Coolio and Chuck D are perfect as the Brother Brothers (Cosacks), Richard Jeni is classic. Its amazing the movie ever got made,,not because it's bad, but because it shows the blatant prostitution of the movie business.
This is a comedy and you are the joke,,,relax and laugh at yourself
Stand by Me (1986)
R Rating is shame for a movie everyone over 12 should see
My summary was the important thing,, I watched this on a movie channel the other day and was shocked to see it had an R rating. While parts of the story are intense trust me you can leave your teens to watch this,,and they might actually learn something about the world or themselves.
Also, I saw a comment about how these kids couldn't act, NOTHING could be farther from the truth I'm sure 95% of the people who saw this movie would have a seizure if they saw that comment. This is probably some of the best acting you'll ever see from kids of this age. A brain tumor is the only possible answer to his observation.
Labyrinth,The Princess Bride,The Sandlot,Goonies this movie is right in there, one of the classic movies for any age
