To the global audience Hindi films are mainly reflection of unreal scenarios with escapist songs-dance soaked in melodrama. And most of the blockbusters with big stars follow the same trend.. Amidst all such films the multiplex culture had given birth to new kind of cinema which explores various kind of genre and the treatment is different. Some even merged the concept of commercial & parallel cinema - thus making a films which are different yet entertaining in their own way.. And yes each one of them has its own set of audience. 

If I start with my all-time favourite films the list would have been an unending one. So I decided to start with year 2001, the time from when the gap between art and commerce reduced to an extent letting new talented directors to experiment. From now on with each passing month I will be ADDing on to the list.

Over the years there is significant change observed in Hindi cinema which is quite applaud able. Yes I do agree that the blockbusters are still restricted to mindless masala films but there seem to be a growing market for films with new concept, with a segment of audience lapping up such experiments. 2012 had witnessed some real good films which defy the tried-and-tested norms of entertainment. While we still have ETT,Rowdy Rathores that wins the heart of the masses, we also find a Kahaani or Wasseypur earning decent amount to be called a profitable venture. There are many such films of 2012 (some worked, some didn’t commercially) which elevates the standards of Hindi cinema exploring various genres and exploring new territories. Beyond commercial success they gave ray of hope for the new breed of film-makers who dares to bend the rules and comes up with quality cinema. While some mind have a great concept, the other one is technically brilliant - there is something the makes these films standout from the crowd..

Here is my choice of best 15 Hindi films of 2012  (The films which got officially released in regular theaters in 2012 or screened for the first time at any top film festival in 2012.)
