Koreatown (2007)
gritty, low budget action film reminiscent of the 70's
Released from prison after 15 years, The Cowboy (Tim Lovelace) goes in search of his half Korean daughter that he's never met only to find out she's fallen into a life of drugs and prostitution. To find her he must go back into the life that put him in prison in the first place. His search takes him deep into the underground of Koreatown's crime world and face to face with Joachim (Daz Crawford), the ruthless crime boss.
I was surprised to see the low rating. Proof that movie goers are spoiled by big budget visual bombardment. This film is a well done, low budget action flick that is a complex mix of action and emotion. This film doesn't rely on modern computer graphic FX but is driven by the action and story. Koreatown will seem hard to follow at first but pulls together nicely as it ties the characters together for the climax ending. By todays standards it may not meet some viewers expectations but being a lover of 70's style action films, Koreatown is a gritty, shoot-'em-up love story. Very well acted by virtual no-name, b-list actors with bright futures, I gave Koreatown a 9 out of respect for the effort put out by this team of independent filmmakers for paying homage to the genre and creating a truly entertaining film.
