I'm honestly as surprised as anyone to be giving "The Last showgirl" such a high score. But here we are. The film was honestly a really good character study, and further shows how wrong the oscars can be. As this surely deserved a nomination or 2.
Pamela Anderson defies all expectations as the main character. A Las Vegas showgirl who's once great show is cancelled leaving her facing the realitys she's put to the side in life while prioritising her "art." Everyone should be able to relate to this story of getting older and seeing your dreams behind you. But the movie probably shadows Anderson's own career on a greater level. Making her the surprisingly perfect choice for the part.
Anderson is the highlight of the film then. But overall its a very character driven flick. With equally impressive turns from everyone from Jamie Lee Curtis to Dave Batista. Who adds some awkward laughs to the movie early on. Before it of course gets to the heartbreaking tragic stuff its aiming for. The film is perfectly paced with every scene necessary to get me invested and caring about these characters.

What the hell happened to this movie? What starts of with promise of brilliance goes horribly wrong during the second hour or more.
Robert Pattinson is as great as always throughout the whole flick, and there is plenty of humour in a promising sci-fi movie where Pattinson plays a man who is copied over and over. But once the plot picks up in the second half the films just all over the place, and feels like its been recreated itself time and time again until the final product is just terrible compared to what was originally intended.
I'm unfortunately being generous with the score here. But the film was pretty funny, and was carried by its mostly good performances. It could have benifited from being half an hour shorter too. As as much as i love Steven Yeun. He and another character or 2 just seem totally unnecessary. And the ending just keeps going and going when it could have finished 15 minutes earlier.

I hoped for a horror comedy from "the Monkey" and that's what i got. Its a dark comedy so definitely right up my street. I love my horror suspense and always found those wind up toy monkeys creepy. So i was definitely the audience for this.
Theo James is great as the twin brothers who encounter the creepy toy as kids. With them and everyone around them continuing to be cursed by it as time goes on. Its all very dark and has some interesting things to say in there too. I enjoyed the movie, and it had alot of promise toward being an even better one. But it didn't quite get there, and maybe some parts were just a bit too random or daft.
Definitely see it if you like "Final destination" and the likes. As in a way it really is just "Final Destination" but with a cursed toy monkey at the centre.
