I long ago gave up listening to the so called professional critics. They are like sheep. This film is not great but at the same time it is not awful either. If I had seen this at the cinema I would have been disappointed but as I just watched it at home, I found it easy going. It did have some great robot characters that sadly were hugely underused and the same for the human stars. Story was unimaginative but nevertheless, I have seen much worse films than this. This film would be good to watch as a family film if you have kids under ten. Not really for adults as it just kind of goes along. Visually impressive and a real opportunity missed but I still give it six as its okay.
Whilst I am a fan of old school creepy horror thrillers such as the fog, medusa touch and Christine, I am not one who makes a point of seeing modern horrors. As a fan of Hugh Grant, I made the exception with this film. I am glad that I did. All three of the leads were excellent with the two ladies holding their own against Hugh. A creepy film but also thought provoking which makes it a more unusual horror thriller. The two ladies play Mormons and apparently they in fact were Mormons in their younger years. This also fascinated me as I was brought up as a Mormon but left that religion as soon as I got out of the shackles of my mom. Once the film places you within the house, the sense of discomfort never ends. Whilst it is not in my very small list of horrors that I would give a 9 or 10 out of 10 to, this is still fascinating and worth a watch.
I went to see this film with my son. Firstly I thought the first film was okay and had potential. Then the second film came out and was woeful. You may be asking why I turned up for this one..because my son wanted to go, so I came along. I had hoped that they would have learnt from the second film, but clearly that was not the case. How does a studio allow so much money to be spent when you have a script that has virtually no story? This film tries to be funny and apart from a couple of mildly amusing comments, it really is not. The recent deadpool/wolverine movie worked so well because the comedy was truly funny and so the fact that that film had not much of a story either, didn't matter. Venom doesn't have a story and isn't funny so is just a yawnfest. Two films in one..venom trying to be funny with one scene after another pointless scene not having any connection to the other half of the film where everyone else feels like they are in a totally different film. What a waste of great actors! So many pointless back stories that had zero relevance. If you did not like either of the first two, you will definitely dislike this one. But..if you are a fan of the first two, then I am sure that you will enjoy this one too.
