The Angriest Man in Brooklyn (2014)
The right Demographic will love this move, as i did .
So.... the demographic for this movie is adult , probably over forty, has had to deal with ungrateful kids. works a grinding job they do not love, to support a family that has taken them for granted.
If you fit any of that , this movie will entertain the crap out of you.
I read the reviews , was not expecting much , i picked it because i am kinda angry most of the time... from said above.
I laughed at the opening scene. and the next scene. i identified with both of the lead characters.
overall, really, this movie is a roller coaster of emotion. If you get into it , it will make you laugh , and cry , it will make you hug your other and the rotten kids
I found it amazingly entertaining, even the end .
It is hard to write a review without spoilers , so all i really want to say is -- don't listen to the reviews on IMDb re; this movie. I don't know how this site attracts so many sour lemons, but thats the best way to describe these reviews. sour lemons.
At first mila was annoying but that was the character, and she warms up. by the end you will be loving her.
I don't know how anyone who watched this could call robins character boring, not that he needed to , but robin really carried this movie. from start to finish he fills the screen with unadulterated robin. in character form for the movie. he was great , and his brother , it was great acting .
Very enjoyable . very moving . very funny.
Envy (2004)
such an underrated comedy, like leftovers , better the second &third time
I just watched this again for the -lost count- time and , for me it just gets better every time
It is a great -my op.- movie , with an all star cast. this movie really does start out slow. It lulls you into such an accurate portrayal of real life that you get a little bored. Sure.
But then , just as you start to write it off as a dud, enter , Christopher Walken (who has an uncanny sense and timing of comedy, his SNL best of is great)
the movie launches into high gear. Chris plays this hilarious, would be criminal that unwittingly cracks joke after joke - one of my fav. Chris walken characters/ daJayman.
As he meets lead character Tim dingman, he goes into this "suppose to be" pep talk, calling Tim a dumbbell, granturbo everyman, dim-whit, dumbo, and Tim replies "I'm glad i came in here, I like you".
The situational comedy that follows had me rolling and laughing out loud. If you don't like this movie , you might be suffering from depression... so real , you have to laugh. (or maybe it is just for the clinically depressed- it cures my blues every time).
Yes , this is the movie about Va-poo-rize, a poo remover that jack black invented. If you judge the movie strictly on that , you might miss an excellent comedy movie.
From Amy Poehler running for "congress, uh, or the little congress or state senate or something". She is running on the "environment platform " because she believes in all environments. To corkey the horse who "shits a pile the size of a breadbasket everyday in our yard".
you will find lots of sub-plot and a truly accurate look at how money affects us. with a slap on the back so you don't get too serious.
Excellent for repeat viewing and better the second time in my opinion
.
Shotgun Wedding (2013)
worth a watch , kinda bloody, mostly funny.
It is a "homemade" movie, that style of movie, high quality "b" movie but wait, it is more polished than most so , not a lot of "shakey " camera work , it's low budget , and i did not expect much , but for me , it took off in the first ten min's .there is some blood and gore, but not really in a scary way, all the gore is accompanied by lots of humor. not a scary movie at all ... just a good comedy.
good humor , likable cast , well shot , and , OK , well written, This movie is what i think of when i think of weddings , call me a "commit-o-phobe", but my dad said , death is just a hop, skip and a jump from marriage.
I am giving it a six out of ten --- I love the "magic in the air" line .... i would probably re watch this one , so ...."stamp" give it a watch if you were thinking about it.
The World's End (2013)
do you have to be British? to enjoy these films- predictable
i feel like i just might be prejudiced or racist , i have not found a British film yet that i could watch all the way through ,
This one was mildly entertaining but just re hash , i could predict every next scene ---hard to describe without giving spoilers ,
i did like the reference to "dr. ink" , i will use that one but as soon as the action started , i could not believe they used that kind of an action vehicle - i wont ruin it but i was asking myself "really , did they just do that ?" is this how the whole film is going to be?... feels like cookie cutter stuff , and not really believable , the guys are just ordinary guys - nerdy kids who wanted to be the coolest , or thought they were cool, but they were not , they all grew up to lead mundane lives, then when the action starts , they start fighting like matrix style ninjas ... i really said oh my gawd , this is not believable .
sorry brits , maybe its the accent. enunciate . i turned it off after the bathroom scene , jus didn't care , ... better writing please .
and more original characters, we have already seen the deadbeat who borrows money from one friend to pay the other , the guy who couldn't make it in life but somehow is able to talk four other , more successful -meaning better decision makers- into doing the stupidest stuff , it's just tired , re-hashed , cookie cutter stuff ... come on .
He hasn't registered his car in 9 yrs , really ? no id for 9 yrs , really?
Screwball: The Ted Whitfield Story (2010)
A funny, really funny off beat comedy , but not for everyone
This movie is almost unheard of, such an underrated comedy, probably not for everyone, but, I am glad i stumbled onto it. I watch it over and over, and every time I laugh out loud. It is a little known treasure, it IS that dumb humor that most people don't get...seriously funny.
The story of a Wiffle(how you say} ball champion and his rise to fame, along with his best friend and fellow wiffle baller. it's off beat and, to me , funnier than dodgeball, but in the same humor vein.
I don't know what else to say about it other than if you like comedies, you should really give this a chance, it should be on my re-watcher list because i watch this at least once a month.
"scrunchy bits , scrunchy bits" ... just plain funny...to me.
Grown Ups 2 (2013)
Again, Not As Bad As Everyone Is Saying -- better than the 1st one
When I watched the opening scene with the deer , i was not impressed and almost turned it off , but it gets better ,
Its not "Waterboy" but its better than "click" , it is middle of the road adam sandler funny
I thought the first "grownups" was pretty bad , I don't think i finished watching that one , so i had little hope for this one ,
And just my opinion but salma (spelling??) hyak , to me , just isn't funny in this , she hen pecks sandler to the point of ...eh,
It is corny ,stupid humor , but it is humor , some points i was really laughing out loud, it has the Awesome cast from "Little Nicky",
I have no great recommendation for this, I would rather watch Adam Sandler than "Ahole kusher", but no Oscars here ,
Some comedy movies are better the second time you watch them ...but i think it comes down to "eggs, like jokes, really only crack once" , I saw some old stale jokes in this but overall it made me laugh out loud , so...
Getaway (2013)
Not As Bad As Everyone Says---
I will be the "other side" of the reviews, as i will be honest , I saw it for free... I would probably be mildly disappointed if i had payed $15... it's a "red box" movie ...worth a couple of bucks . but it wasn't that bad --like "Frankenstein theory" or other REALLY bad films lately-- If you saw "vanishing Point", this is better ,by far than that one .
In a nutshell , Getaway is , or could be called "A Lot of Cops Crashing"
Yes it is a thin plot , yes it has bad writing ,and although overall, it is highly polished, some of the camera work seems to be shot by a 9th grade A/V student, and some is crazy good, there is one shot towards the end that -for me- was incredible camera work .... it is a grill cam shot from the second car car , it is one continuous shot that winds you through traffic like you are riding a street luge, it is a clean crisp long -no scene splits- camera shot that I just loved ,
Although predictable , this film is full of action, well , car chases, Im a car nut so , who cares about Oscars when you get to thrash a highly built mustang ... it's no "shawshank" but it gets at least a five ---6.5 , from me , great action , no slow plot development , and the ending is great if not just a little predictable ....its just popcorn fun ...yes, it was fun ..dont listen to the other critics if you like any of this . I hate slow crappy movies , this is not one of those .... when i am bored , I will watch this again
Pete Holmes: Nice Try, the Devil! (2013)
very different humor ....but he is very funny
Silly me , i thought it was a movie. --it's stand up comedy.
I had never heard of pete holmes , but i like stand up, it's been a while so I stuck with it , --- I think the descriptive on this would be self deprecating humor- I don't want to spoil any thing
There are some good laughs , it is not too long , and I don't think any one will accuse pete of stealing jokes , he really runs through some off topics, he runs you through his take on the difference between cats and dogs ...over all i gave him a six out of ten , I would watch it again also
If I see any more pete holmes stuff I would watch it .
Family Weekend (2013)
A refreshingly funny comedy about a psychotic break turned family event
I didn't think this was going to be funny at all, i passed over it at least three times.... what a mistake, I found this movie to be very funny and entertaining, It also -to me -- points the finger at each and every character and shows their character flaws,
you start out thinking each character might be the "normal"one, only to find yourself asking - is this character a little off?
So , while , to me , it was at times , laugh out loud funny, i never lost the feeling that I was learning a little about people. It also carries a good family feel throughout the whole movie.
The acting and production values are great , There is an emotional aspect to this one also.
It's a movie about a psychotic break- which is a tragic thing --but there are some funny situations that can arise from that. So, there is a "roller-coaster" feel. Ultimately, it is about real life, which ebbs and flows. It made me laugh, I gave it a seven out of ten
iSteve (2013)
iSteve is just plain funny...entertaining and well produced.
A great true story , narrated by the main character, a very funny history lesson,
At one point , I flashed back to when my little brother got one of the first computers ...when there were about three people "online", it was just another techie at the library or local college, and they were just tying up everyone's phone lines.
for me , it was well written and took right off, I didn't expect it to be as funny as it was , being a biography, but it was funnier than educational, and even when the jokes weren't flowing , the movie still flowed very nicely,
I recommend iSteve, my opinion is that most people will enjoy it and get a chuckle
I gave it a six out of ten, and I think i will eventually re-watch it so it gets a re-watcher stamp
Frankie Go Boom (2012)
decide for yourself-it is a different kind of humor-overall it IS a comedy
Frankie goes boom, sometimes , to me , seems too "real" to be funny, but at that same moment , it makes you laugh, ...so, ...hard to describe,
It has a real "grittiness" to the humor,...I kept saying to myself, this is not going to be funny"...and then finding myself laughing ...
I am on my third watching, so it has my "re watcher" stamp, but still that feeling remains.
"franky goes boom' has the ability to make you uncomfortable, it also has the ability to make you laugh...
I definitely recommend "franky" as a comedy , but you REALLY need to have a sense of humor--if not , you wont enjoy.
It got a 7 out of ten rating , and a re watcher stamp from me .
Budz House (2011)
Budz house is good ...a lot like "friday"...much beter than the low rating
It's a weed smokin, hood hangin, booty shaking good time , every bit as good as any other film in this category---the"weed smokin, hood hangin, botty shaking" kind of movie.
the humor is kinda cartoonish silly ...very fun , and if you wanna get caught up on you "hood "slang , this is the perfect movie ,another movie it kinda reminded me of is "dont be a menace to south central while drinking your juice in the hood" ...the hooker/new wife from "Borat", plays a momma(one of the boys moms) very well and funny ,
i would like to be known for my short, effective reviews, so budz house is a "recommend", fun and entertaining... 6 out of ten, and budz house gets a "re watcher" stamp as i am already on second viewing.
Bigfoot (2006)
It's a Very Well Made and entertaining "B" movie
I have to start by saying i usually don't like "b" movies ... there are a few, like the original "deathrace 2000"...check it out if you haven't...
This movie Bigfoot , is ...well it has a certain charm that i am having a hard time explaining .... It is a good movie , it's not an epic ... just a well written, well told campfire story ,
You get to see the monster right away and in detail . The detail is good . believable special effects.
The characters are just what I would expect in this type of movie . The acting , while at times, seems "cardboard", even that comes off as almost deliberate , as with the "b" movie genre..., left me wondering .
All in all , i have seen MANY worse films , and could probably watch this one again..... earning it a "re-watcher" stamp. and a 5 out of 10 rating.
Silver Linings Playbook (2012)
I wont say "good" or "Bad"---I will say "Not A Comedy"
I wasn't going to watch this, but i asked the board about it , and someone said- parts are "hilarious"..... (my op.)there is nothing hilarious in this movie, I watch a lot of comedy...this movie is in NO sense of the word a comedy ...even a dark comedy
What I got from this movie "S.L.P", "how to deliver funny lines with out being funny", there are opportunities for hilarity but NEVER capitalized on , every possible funny line is delivered with the highest level of "deadpan"... it is the straight man delivering the punchlines, which i Have seen work, but not here.
it IS some sort of romance, maybe a good one --i don't review romance--
It IS also a drama, maybe a good one --- i don't review drama--
so , watch it , and you decide..... now just start the movie
Unbeatable Harold (2006)
This is what a good comedy/romance should be !
this is the story of Harold, it seems that no one told Harold that Elvis is dead ,
this is a "loveable loser.." movie, it is just a visit with Harold really , you tag along w/ him as if you are his best friend , you get to know (and probably like) him,- I like very few romantic comedies -- i really liked this one ,-- it does test your loyalty by plodding along a bit in some parts , but even those moments are fun because Harold is fun,
This movie is my definition of "campy", it is done well though.
I don't see how you could "not " like this movie --even if you came in halfway through(who writes a review after missing half a movie??)-- the movie picks up about 40 mins in, and if you followed the story , it continues to get better till the end which is worth the wait...
Good movies are (to me) judged by the end ---at the end of "3000 miles to Graceland", it hit me that I had just watched a brilliant movie/and you don't get that till the end sometimes
so - if you are looking for a "top notch" "feel good" movie , Unbeatable Harold fits nicely. I enjoyed it , i recommend it, and I would watch it again. now just start the movie
Servitude (2011)
I hate to admit it- it's good .
i don't know why but i went into this movie wanting to dislike it , i caught the first couple of min's as a kind of trailer..... that made me not like it , but once i sat down and gave it my att'n, it took off immediately , ....one of my movie guages ...it should make me laugh within the first 5 mins , at least once , RIgHT?....if its a comedy , ....servitude passed the test , it is at least as good as "waiting". if that means much , .
here's a glimpse....manager of restaurant says .."(if we are not a team)then i will take one of those rifles down off the wall right here and just "kurt Cobain" it right here in the middle of the dining room...just end it , right here, boom , blam, (hand gesturing an exit wound out the back of his head)...and i will get your att'n first so you are looking , and you will live with that image for the rest of your lives ...and do you know how much i am joking ? this much..."
ya, so , i hate long reviews and this one is stretching ... it's pretty good- servitude. now just start the movie .
Dot (2002)
not very good-but very bad
i think the seven good reviews are from ppl involved with the movie. i don't know what anyone found funny in this movie , it was obviously a "cheap"make , with a big bad "b" movie feel ,
looks like they only used two or three sets , as everything is filmed in one location or just a few ,
the actors don't seem to really be actors , and it seems they made the movie the same way someone made a dot com biz in 1999. with about 5 bucks and all their friends ,
the only redeeming thing was the factoid tidbits tossed in,
its only my opinion, but you can check out the movies i like from my profile ---i cant recommend this to anyone , not eligible for re- watch ,
they call it a mockumentary because they are sitting back , mocking those who watch it --yes , me included , i feel stupid for watching.
The Outlaw Josey Wales (1976)
If I had only one movie to watch... hands down, Outlaw Josey Wales. A Must Watch!
as you read in the desc. , josey loses his family, they are victims of
civil war violence, as a result he vents his "righteous anger" on a host of bad people. but does it more eloquently that any movie -my opinion-to date.
I read some other review which also describe this movie well , it really does have everything , and my review is not going to do it justice.
Clint Eastwood did some Incredible movies , so to say this is his best, is saying a lot, but it is , even he says this is one of his favs - i think he called it an important movie that shed light on civil war times ... now just start the movie .
The Con Artist (2010)
feels like an 80's(bad) buddy cop film
I had a hard time buying into the whole movie , it never sold me. good movies grab you and suck you in , making you "feel " the story as if you are living it with the actors ,
i could believe that mannequins came to life to write and star in this one.
I saw a 2010 release date , but could not shake the 80's feel of this movie -- think armed and dangerous, or a bad "48 hrs" (48 hrs was good ).
the female lead was really contrived and cardboard.
This one has been done a million times since the 8o's, and it has been done better most of those times.
i am sure this movie has it's fans, however ,i would not watch this again or recommend .
a tired story told badly.
Brickleberry (2012)
Don't listen to bad review/better than other animated shows--shockingly funny
BRICKLEBERRY will shock you, it is the next step in this genre, it is fast, funny to the point of -did they just say/do that -- it IS ADULT oriented, and loves being dirty-- ex. female park ranger has orgasm from killing a deer, after she prays to god for strength.
Yes, it is shockingly funny- it throws everything in your face ..if you are gay-religious-racist/non racist-white-black- young -old-bald-patriotic, anti-American- you get the point --- no matter who you are brickleberry knows what will offend you and throws it in your face until you laugh-- remember getting held down and tickled till you almost pee--whoever did that to you has now turned into "BRICKLEBERRY".
Bob's Burgers (2011)
beefsquatch-- hilarious--i replaced family guy w/ bobs bigburger
i cant get enough, the episodes , to me , just keep getting better, if you can find single episodes of this show , you have to watch episode sea2ep9- beefsquatch, just one of the funny ep.'s of this show , also -"bob fires the kids --ep3sea3, i think ,
this is better than simpsons -which i cannot even believe is still on--makes more sense than fam guy-so sick of the crappy music numbers and "make no sense -just do it to burn up time-flashbacks and chicken fights--an 8 min chicken fight?? come on fam guy.
but i digress, Yes, bobs burgers is an excellent new -well 4 seasons--animated comedy , for the whole family.
Identity Thief (2013)
don't listen to the bad reviews--first laugh two min's in/if you have a sense of humor , its a funny movie
This movie is a good comedy, I cant believe i have to say this in every(almost)comedy review. comedy is not going to deliver any deep messages or "take" you anywhere. it is just the friend that comes over to cheer you up. ---check out "DRAMA" if you need meaning -- stop knocking pro made comedy , not everyone has the same sense of humor but most humor is universal so if you wanna laugh , you will,
the opening set-up for this movie jumps right in , explains the concept well and sets the tone for funny, i was laughing right away,
Top name actors , highly polished feel, easy storyline, and "it's true life experiences that we can all--well , most of us --laugh about(or cry).
Jon Favreau is in this- he does'nt do bad movies,if he is listed as producer(he is brilliant)or actor , it's worth watching.
lastly-nothing worse than a long review-hint to reviewers-- so i am oudahere --NOW HIT PLAY ON THE MOVIE
Just Go with It (2011)
ONE OF ADAM SANDLERS BEST-everything you would experts from a comedy
#1. don't listen to the bad critics on this one.(better than waterboy?)
#2.-a general comedy rule(for those seeking meaning)- The better the comedy the thinner the plot. the stronger the plot the more you get bogged down in drama. DRAMA-its a movie category.
I have not seen sandler's movies in chronological order , i saw jack and jill before seeing this one ... i hated jack and jill (and some other recent sandler movies)so i had that "lost a friend" feeling about sandler- he's one of my fav's when he's good',- so this film hit me like an old friend that i hadn't seen in years showing up. so many funny lines ,-if you love jen an., you get to watch her get spoiled freely for no reason , that was great , she's wonderful, beautiful and funny-does she ever get that credit-she's funny. nick swordson has never been funnier than this , his best role.
The whole movie is summed up at 48 min's in, when swordson delivers the line: "ok, ya, I would create a fake family for that, Oh My Gawd".--more than one or two belly laughs--
comedy can have thin plot, this does, but , it has comedy written by comedy professionals delivered by comedy professionals- this is a professional comedy that is at the top of it's class-- and i loved the "police" heavy soundtrack.
The Replacements (2000)
moms leftovers- good , but you know what to expect==not "waterboy"
i wasn't going to review this movie , as it is just mediocre, not great but not terrible, and then another reviewer compared this to 'Waterboy"///// not happenin, .... i laughed so hard to water boy, ...watched it a million times , i was twenty minutes in to this movie-the replacements- when i realized that i hadn't really laughed yet, what shocked me into "serious land" was how the writers brought in the "love angle"--you watch it and tell me if you could have written that better-cliché'-- , i like all the actors in it , they all did a great job, however , i think that the writing is just way overdone ---this movie idea has kinda been done--i just knew every punchline before it came, --one cliché' after another --
so , as another reviewer stated, this is a good afternoon , popcorn movie ---- But DON'T EVER-- think that this is in the same "comedy classic" movie category as "water boy"--who is funnier as a leading role , Adam sandler or Keane reeves?-- and the great tell ... this movie does not make it to my "re-watch" file
Small Apartments (2012)
bizarrely heartwarming, & life's message/answer at the end -sit through it -
I cant believe no one has reviewed this film- so hard to "label" this one. I can tell you it is a bit "left field" and goes along with "life is stranger than fiction", it is not action packed, it is steady , plodding ,testing your loyalty, weighing you. trying to see if you are worthy of the message this movie delivers,-Literally - the filmmakers have given you life's meaning, spelled out word for word, in a crappy little semi-comedy, on the surface that's what this film is ... but, I'll bet you a dollar, this film makes you cry.
The main character spends the whole film in his underwear, and Johnny Knoxville does a great job of breaking his typecast in this,
I cant say this movie is like ..it's not like anything i can think of...maybe kinda has the same feel and pace as "spun", it is not like anything i have seen, it is a twisted tale of human interaction, told from an unwitting standpoint... and if you are like me , you will be sucker punched with the second half of this movie, you WILL be moved , and if you don't cry, I owe you a dollar-- I think this movie changed me--
