#Mute (2023)
Fantastic thriller for weekend
The movie is an edge of the seat thriller with the premise which is relevant to the current society. The screenplay is gripping and to the point with no unnecessary scenes or dialogues. The performance by Archana Jois is top notch and other casts have ably supported the protagonist. The run time could have been even lesser considering that it's a thriller with no run on the mill songs. It should have been released in theatres instead of OTT as it could have got a wider audience. Also the team should have promoted the movie better but then it's understandable that they are a new team and had budget constraints. Nevertheless it's a good one time watch with family Ona weekend.
Just Maath Maathalli (2010)
Just pass
The movie starts with Raghu Dixit building up his musical crescendo which periodically blurts out the movie title and our desi chick(Ramya) turning around with graphical rose petals showering all around the screen and needless to say our protagonist(Sudeep) dancing and lip syncing to the tune. Then the audience is taken on a 2 hr flight to Singapore without any frisking/Visa/passport norms where Sid a.k.a Siddharth tells his story in flash backs. The director( Sudeep himself) has knitted the story using a tried/tested and clichéd formula but its unique presentation makes it a one time watch. Its like re-doing a power point presentation in office 2007 which was earlier done in office 2003( synonymous to old wine in a new bottle :-) ) . As the movie progresses, it is hit by turbulence in the form of slow pace. In these days where people can recall only 3 letters i.e I,P,L of English alphabet, the director makes you watch a test match where the ball doesn't even cross the 30 yard circle. Nevertheless the movie can be screened on special occasions like Valentines Day, "love failures" day, " divorced" day etc :-) Well, coming to the plot, its about a self proclaimed rock star and his search for lady damsel in Unique(ly) Singapore. Many things do happen in the gap between his rock star days and his search, but i am too lazy to write it or rather type it.. pls do watch Zee Kannada or Udaya TV in few weeks and watch it yourself :-) I will be doing injustice if I don't mention about the 2nd protagonist Raghu.. His contemporary music complements the narration and there is some freshness in the tune. The Kannada audience are so fed up of Sonu Nigams weeping voice and Mano Murthy's lifted tunes from 70's but Raghu brings a ray of hope to the sandalwood music industry by introducing fresh talents.. P.S : Sudeep's dialogue delivery through his eyes is worth applauding. Do watch it for his performance and his efforts to make original movies. :-)
Aaptharakshaka (2010)
Vishnuvardhan's last movie :(
Those shining eyes are back in their second outing and so is the dreaded Nagavalli and she is not alone this time. A 30 ft Anaconda cross Indian cobra accompanies her for no reason. And the snake charmer has the audacity to tame it with his 1 ft pungi. :-) Its a treat to watch our captain Vijay single handedly bat the evil spirits off a house filled with beautiful babes. Just when u thought he will score a century, the audience is left dejected as he gets out in 90's ; that's during the last few reels of the movie which has no logic of any kind. The climax appears to be lifted from Hollywood flicks like Twister, 2012, The Mummy combined with low end graphics,-- courtesy our neighboring state ;-) . remember director " its always No graphics at all" :-) The movie starts with a Nagavalli painting flying like a hot balloon across the streets of Mysore and finally landing at an artist's dwelling. 5 yrs later the haunted portrait finds itself a place in a bunglow and creates havoc to its inmates. Then enter our 6-pack witch doctor(Avinash) and the family pack psychiatrist( Dr Vishnuvardhan) to solve the mystery behind deaths and over 120 decibels screaming from "I have nothing else to do" royal city belle's . The doctors take a conflicting approach to find out the psycho Nagavalli in the house. The witch doctor gets retired hurt in the process and our captain is shouldered the responsibility to carry on the innings which he does it successfully and gets a Man of the Match award.
Gurukiran's music is above average and the cinematography fails to make it an edge of the seat thriller . The supporting crew does a fine job and slim and gorgeous Bhavana needs a special mention here. She has a potential to rule the drought hit(in terms of female protagonists) sandalwood.
The movie is worth watching once if you can tolerate 70's graphics and Paapa Pandu genre of comedy ;-)
