Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga (2024)
This movie was mid as mid goes
Nothing clicked in this movie.
The CGI was bad, it was so obvious and annoying.
The blending of CGI and stunts was even worse.
The really evident of speeding the frames was comical.
And finally the script and acting. It was really low level. The story was stupid as stupid goes.
The only thing I could enjoy was the costumes which were nice.
For a big budget movie, from the choice of the theme, paradise girl living with her lesbian mothers, is kidnapped and she gets revenge, now driving a big truck with CGI metal hand and Mad Max drives around and we get to reuse all the previous set as we will be filming the same locations. It's a no brainer, right? Only that is wrong and this is a below average movie.
Klaus & Barroso (2024)
Witty basic comedy
This was good main stream comedy, considering what idiotic films Vidra production or whatever is called has thrown in the last 2 years.
First I enjoyed the writing, it's comedy for the masses, but if respects itself and the audience. And it's actually the first time I have seen a masonic joke in Romanian movies, and it should be more often, because it's and endemic disease in our society and especially in our cinematographic business.
The acting, was acceptable to good for this kind of movie, the directing while was trying and a little bit original ... was all over the place. For me, you have to choose a theme, what you want your movie to be. You want it a romantic parody, you want it a western, you want it musical .. just choose, because if you don't it's shaorma with everything, which is tasty if you are drunk but you never remember it the next day.
And lastly, nudity and bad language used correctly are acceptable, we don't need to make a theme about it.
Anyways, good movie and kudos for the people who made it, it was a good watch.
Dune: Part Two (2024)
It's beautifull cinematography but it is no masterpiece
Let me just say this, I watched this with 2 friends. We were having really big hopes and when it's ended, we were like that's it?
It is established, that you can't put on film a complex book. On film you have narrow the focus on and dumb it down, especially fi you want it to be successful for the masses. But extraordinary writers and directors manage to do that and with their magical skills to give you a lot more.
This is a movie with beautiful scenery, music and sound effects and average anything else.
From my perspective, Jessica was made weak for some reason and she supposed to be a perfectly trained Bene Gesserit, when so was throwing up, I was like not ... she has perfect control on her body, she has inhuman reflexes and can even control her body ad microscopic levels not to mention her mind is a fortress.
Mentats strategic mind, politics, religion, Arrakis terraforming, Freemen mastering their environment. A strange universe where humans have super specialized abilities that we can only dream of. Is not really present here.
And lets get to the actions and fighting, is really a bore. There iare a few basic premises. Fights are with guns, if shield then you move to low speed fighting, lasers rock but shield with lasers =nuke. And we get one scene of attacking a harvester, tens of femens being killed, so they can kill the ornithopter as it had a shield and then they use lasers, logical, but next scenes lasers used with ornithopters flying around, logicless.
Next, sword fighting everywhere, like its some fantasy movie. And fremens jumping aroudn like acrobats, killing saurdaukars like they were flies. This was really annoying, fremen are tigh knit community, survivors in a sand world, with really good fighting skills. Sardaukars are product of hell world, were everything tried to kill them since they were babies, trained from infancy to soldiering, tactics and battle. Only the best survive and reach sardaukar elite status. And they have the best equipment. In this movie, they are idiots, running around like headless chickens. Pathetic!
And we fast forward to an end, that's truly lame.
I can't give less than eight, but that is due the list of utterly devoid of creativity movies we have delivered each year. Just comparing smelling crap Rebel Moon was, this shines like a diamond in the dirt.
Rebel Moon - Part One: A Child of Fire (2023)
B movie with high budget
After watching this movie, I understand now the writers strike and them being against the AI writing.
Writers these days, are a waste of money. This movie script seems to be written by children. Any AI if they had access to scripts for movie from 20 years ago would of written something a lot better.
The acting and directing are average at best, the dialogues are stupid and meaningless. I really felt bad for wasting 2 hours of my life after watching this.
You basically have female Michael Jackson, living not in a steam punk setting like Star Wars but more like a medieval punk world and for a really really idiotic reasons, she starts to gather the diversity squad: the Indian prince, the back general, the Asian assassin and of course the sneaky white merchant. And it goes as you expect, a crapfest. I couldn't close the TV fast enough. Movies as an art form no longer exist in Netflix. Just watch something else, you will thank me.
The Mandalorian: Chapter 23: The Spies (2023)
A fight against common sense
The feeling watching this episode, it's mixed.
First you get something, okay there is a story here, some dots are connected, surely in a elementary pupil learning geometry kind of way, but it is there, we have some thing resembling a story.
It's kind of good and bad, we have hints of the Admiral Thrawn and those who know the lore, you know it's a power house, it's not a clone clone of a villain, it's and actual character that can bring real suspense to the story. But, and it's a big what and we still have:
- baby yoda being irrelevant and just a prop
- Michael Jackson mandalorian lookalike being present in like 20 scenes or more in the last episodes, looking and smiling outside of the camera and finally having some dialogue, but for no freaking reason beside maybe some another Disney tv show
- Giancarlo Esposito not really acting or matching his role
- destroying the local mandolarian ship as they reach their destination, by some big monster, because why not? And surely we will connect the dots in a elementary way soon
- and finally let's not forget, the sacrifice! "They are too many" he says and then kills them all in 15 seconds
Childish story telling and directing, but at least the scenes looks amazing and in this dry creativity age, it's quite good.
I will continue watching, but I confess I was near to drop it off, the list of mistakes, goofs and basically creatively unprofessional episodes made me almost quit the show.
Sex/Life (2021)
Watch it if you hate entertainment
I just had to write this review. My wife has this awful habit of watching tv before sleeping. So I was forced to watch this abomination for 2 consecutive nights. Fortunately it was only the last 3 episodes from the last season.
The story is about two slightly above average looking women surrounded by studs. And I mean studs, perfect body men, with the ability to turn on the puppy eyes or hungry eyes on demand. Of course they are all totally in love with these 2 average women and are perfectly capable of ignoring their affairs, lies and basically anything in the name of love.
OK, it's a series for women, that should be OK but not was no it. The quintessence of this final series, it bad awful writing. The script, the stories, the lines, it was a cringe feast. Banging your head on the bed post bad, wanting to through something at the TV bad, I haven't watched something writing so poorly and I used to watch some B movie, the writers should have their pen/keyboards removed and given to 5 year old, or trained monkeys. It was like you are enjoying silence somewhere and somebody it's scratching 1000 blackboards with diamond claws. On the positive side, I explained what cringe means to my wife and she agreed.
If I could give a lower note, like minus to the depth of hell minus it would be too much.
Anyways, as a take away my wife thinks that the first season was interesting, like will she leave her husband will she not, it has some story and suspense. But she fully agreed that this end of the season 2 was cheesy, predictable and stereotypic of stelar proportion.
Two nights of my life spent in something which is close to cultural torture, beware!
Creed III (2023)
Got it's moments but overall weak
Let's start with the acting, it's good, emotions are on par. The only under performer is Adonis deaf girl. She is not suited for the role.
Next, let talk about the title shot, it was bad writing, some dude got out of jail and got a title shot, it was awful, it made me almost quit watching.
And this gets us to the weak story, some dude got the his third strike, Adonis has no loyalty and thus he comes back to get his revenge/ or worth or whatever, that's it, that's what is all about.
The movie is lacking on many aspects, but just to get a few, bringing young minors to boxing fights, because that's what you want to do, bring children to see adults bashing their head in with blood flying everywhere, because that's what parents considerate parent do, right?
And finally, the fighting was crap, I mean ironically they use the " check mate" on a fighter, about him not covering his liver and then through out the fight the champs(new one) uses the blocking with both hand far in front of him. That and the most punches landed in a round record, it was that bad, just muscles showing and no fighting, just brawling galore.
Overall, there were emotions in this movie and it was nice. But for a boxing movie it was a total to maybe partial failure.
Of course we all appreciate the inclusivity, people not hearing, women champ trainers and managers, etc.
But for me the jewel was Jonathan Majors, he can act, too bad the writing was subpar.
House of the Dragon: We Light the Way (2022)
Is this a soap opera or a bollywood movie
From the start we see that marketing and social are on full swing. This was by far the worst of all episodes, by far.
And I mean worst on writing, directing and acting. The only thing decent was the music!
So let's just list this cringefest :
-the assassination of Daemon wife, done by himself, by scaring a horse, in her home castle area. Incredible stupid, yes!, went past the writers, producers and director
-that pretend gay fight who turned into a kiss, pathetic writing and pathetic directing, that's the best you can do?
-bodyguard, leave being queen and go with me to see where oranges go, because you had sex with me and let's get married
-not having a wife and not having children is not a chastity oath, just saying, you can still have sex
- secrets only the gay men sees at the wedding, because gay special vision
- the dance where they all scream "heeeeyy"
- the fight at teh wedding, where are the guards, what is happening. It's this a slav wedding, cringe ... my teeth hurt
- the weakest head bust open punches in the last 20 years
There were so much more, I think it would be better to let the sound guys write and direct TV series, this was a total let down for me!
House of the Dragon: Second of His Name (2022)
First part was ok, but then somehow the writers forgot to write
So, on the first part, we already know, men don't like queens even though the princess is all deserving. But the acting is decent and it's palatable.
But the last act, it's a total let down:
Imagine this, an island with caves surrounded and under siege by an army with two dragons and ships, but they still lose because , you know ..caves.
Also imagine one man, waving the white flag to kill a few people and then outrun hundreds of arrows so everybody, including the sentries and scouts and whatever is distracted and they don't see the army marching behind him.
So dragons are negated by caves, too bad the entire Westeros which was conquered by 3 dragons and a small army didn't know that!
The Orville: Gently Falling Rain (2022)
Krill comes first
I mean, we get it, it's against jingoism.
But if you get political, can you at least try to do it in a way that's not so obvious.
Disregard, the decision to use the stone faced Krill int he crowd, which was not al all impressing, better to have long shots where you don't see the face detail and zoom in from time to time for the facial expressions.
But to get political, you have to get a nuanced message, not this idiotic view, get some details get some grit, this was kindergarten writing.
What's next? The genocide of too white or too darker Krill. Stopped watching, you have to decide if you are comedy Star Trek or Disney Star Trek and this decision should of been taken before the filming started.
House of the Dragon: The Heirs of the Dragon (2022)
Average in all
The only thing cool in this first episodes was the dragons and the armor.
Story wise, it's average nothing to impress. Character lines, again boring.
Basically we have en entire hour dedicated to bashing agnatic primogeniture. Intertwined with things that happen for no reason, like suddenly gathering people and punishing them, but no explaining how they did know those people were criminals. Also we have a celebratory tourney where most participants are killed or maimed, nonsense, considering that most participants were heirs.
I understand the need of people to feel the same joy as they watch initial seasons of GOT, but that was based on the excellent writing of GRRM.
Again the acting is average overall, but considering the script, they didn't have much to work with.
We will see if things pick up, but the vibe it gives, tells me it will not.
It doesn't have the creative and discipline energy to do it.
The Northman (2022)
This is a movie
It's so different and so deep. I feel it will be cult.
Only the fine cinematography de deserves that.
Again, this is is cinematography . Thank you who who did this, this is emotions and so outside mainstream. It's messed up, but it makes you think, it's art and I'm ashamed it took so long for me to watch it. Beautiful!
The Book of Boba Fett: Chapter 3: The Streets of Mos Espa (2022)
Somebody messed up
This is the worse episode until now.
Star Wars is a ww2 with a medieval setting sci-fi, the '70 harleys inspired speeders, with those awful colors, where so out of sync with the theme of the movie it hurt your eyes. And the power puff team, no acting skills and a bad script, "there are no jobs, so we steal water because he charges so much", really? That's the best you could do?
Also the speeder chase looked bad, don't know why, but it just didn't click.
Don't Look Up (2021)
Acting was good
First, the acting, most netflix shows lack quality acting, but not here.
The story of the movie it's good, but what annoys it's the hard left crutches the writers and director are using to move the film around. If you want comedy, you make comedy of all politics, not just one, because that means you are biased and you feel it though out the film. Because of this, the movie, while enjoyable, it doesn't reach must watch levels.
Anyways the parodies which are apolitical, like techno-mogul and our dependency of technology are delicious.
Cobra Kai (2018)
Holly hell, enjoying this so much
I don't know who the geniuses are behind this series. But I just binged 7 episodes on the first season. This is so pure cinematography, low budget no effects, no superheroes and just a great cast, with a good story, good lines and good directing(not to mention, little to none political stuff). I'm so happy that I watched this, so much that I thank all reviewers before me for bringing this series to my attention.
Community (2009)
Funny and different but the final two seasons are bad
Initially I was on season 2 and the series got so many laughs out of me. But starting with the end of season 4 all went downhill, the humor was forced and no longer funny. I recommend watching only the first 4 seasons.
The one thing that I like but it's no deal breaker, there are no audience laughs, it really make a difference.
Bad Boys for Life (2020)
Director license should be revoked
This is an average movie. The good thing about it is the trip down memory lane. That's it. Will Smith doesn't fit in his role anymore, Martin Lawrence forgot completely how to act. Plot hole everywhere. the villans want revenge, they escape a prison using the old switcharoo which is filmed in a lame way. Clichee all the way. But the most annoying thing for me, what the speed up of action sequences and driving, it was like watching a Benny Hill comic skit, this director should never direct again action movie, maybe B ones.
Sex Education (2019)
A nice surprise
The series starts so strong, the cast is perfect, everybody owns their role.
But as the series progresses, it kinds of looses it's soul.
First of all, all the sexual and ethnicity minorities are pushes too much, like everyone has to be one, as it is in all Netflix movies, it pushed so much that it looses the organic context and the word minority doesn't have any meaning.
And second, after the first few great episodes everything turns in a clichee and looses almost all of the initial comedy influences and finishes with a mediocre finale. Not going for season 2.
Altered Carbon: Resleeved (2020)
Writers on strike. Generic story with beautifull animations
First of the bat, it's on the same writing quality as Season 2 of Altered Carbon.
What I liked: it's beautiful, the city is fascinating, the camera movement is nice, the fights are awesome.
But, after 15 minutes you start to realize is not Altered Carbon, is just your basic story you've seen thousands of time, no philosophy underneath, it doesn't follow the cannon. All you have is a samurai infused anime story, which is bad and the characters are bad, no depth what so ever. Just waiting to finish.
It could of been great, it what the hook but the bait was rotten.
The Boys (2019)
The real Watchmen TV severies we were waiting
What can I say, the cast is superb, everybody acts their role as they are supposed to. The directing is beautiful and the story is compelling.
Power corrupts and we can see it in the super-heroes clearly. I wont say anything more, watch the first episode, if you don't like it, then it's not for you.
Hustlers (2019)
It's worth it only if you want to see JLo
What can I say, if you want to see JLo rocking body, dancing in strip club, well this movie is for you. She was amazing, I was impressed what this woman can do at 50 years, also she did a pretty good performance acting wise.
The rest, it's pure garbage, I was falling asleep most of the movie, and also the story of the movie doesn't resonate with the audience. I mean, ok you want easy money, you steal it from people, but don't try to sell it to us that these woman had the higher moral ground. It was just that women stealing money, didn't feel any sisterhood against Wall street. So if you want to see Jlo, by all means go see this movie, else stay at home, it's just garbage from the story to the acting.
John Wick: Chapter 3 - Parabellum (2019)
Starts good ends flat
Something is wrong with Hollywood and reviewers or is just me. It's an action movie so your expectation are not high, but still the movie started as expected with a bang, lots of action and fighting and even more violence than before. All is well, but at half the movie I think they had a revelation, that they can milk the cow some more and then is when is all going downhill, the action is just repetitive and boring and at the end you just feel annoyed that yet again, they added fillers just so that they take your money one more time. And no John Wick, I will not be coming for the fourth, fifth whatever chapter. So final thoughts, 0 story, with that story the actors couldn't do much so you can add bad acting to the mix and lots of action, after the first half John is so bad at fighting his enemies are waiting for him to enter the fight.
Hunter Killer (2018)
It could off been good
But instead, we got atrocious dialogue, wooden acting and a horrible script.
What I loved about the movie, it's the story. It could of been a real thriller, WW3 is about to start, underwater warfare, attack submarines, the works.
But what we got instead, is unrealistically scenes, a plot no ones understands, about a rogue Defense Minister, who wants war because he is Rambo? Undetected sub is following russian sub and is detected and sunk. We have a coin. Special forces squad is parachuted down on one of the best defended island by a cargo plane. Special forces got really close, nobody is watching. Best way to search for someone is shooting randomly and buildings, then leave because for certain they are not there. All the movie is like this and on top of that bad acting, dialogue. And the CGI, they didn't have it in the budget to rent a copter. Everything is CGI but not the good CGI, a little bit over a B movie in quality.
In the end is just a missed opportunity.
Mile 22 (2018)
Weird movie
Something didn't click in this movie. From the woke writing, "you know the definition of collusion" to " only a women could of written this code" ?? To annoying know it all band snapping protagonist, to poorly introduced fights, attacking with grenades and then knifes. Nothing clicked in this movie, especially the script. I enjoyed the fast pace introduction, but sadly the actors didn't fit in their roles and neither their lines. Got really bored with all towards the ending, but it started great!
Transformers: The Last Knight (2017)
A sin for Cinematography
I just can't believe, that people who did these movies are trusted with hundreds of millions. The movie, doesn't have any logic, any acting, any anything, it's all stupid mumbo jumbo and CGI.
Making movies, supposed to be an art, but this is just teenagers trying to do a movie. I was really shocked, that this kind of garbage was allowed to reach the public.
