AMBER: Journeys Beyond (1996)
Considering what it is, it's a fantastic game.
Amber: Journeys Beyond enjoys something of a cult following these days. I first played the game back in 1996 when it first came out, and even today I still love loading it up on my Virtual Machine. A:JB was an independently produced adventure game, and it was produced at a time when very few independent games existed. When you consider the good plot, puzzles, and imagery, I cannot see how anyone can find this game disappointing.
For those who do, I defy them to create a game as wonderful as Amber. Even today, when so many tools exist online and in the real world for game production, I highly doubt they could do it.
I'll skip the plot details of the game. If you're here looking it up, more than likely you know about what happens anyway. There are details about the storyline that can be found through a simple Google search.
Instead, I just highly recommend that you try this game if you can. You can play it on Windows XP if you have the proper instructions. Now, even fifteen years after the game was first released, it still stands as a very well-made and worthwhile (satisfying) paranormal adventure.
