Deliver Us (2023)
Not that good
It looked so promising in the beginning. Religious horror movies can be great. "Hellhole" was a recent example of a great one that is truly underrated. This is not an exorcist type which like zombie movies are worn out. Lots of atmosphere here but the story just doesn't come together or provide enough. Yes, it's beautifully shot, although it's visually very dark and seems to be shot mostly at night. This is rather annoying. It is violent too at times. Perhaps they just need better scripts in order to make it work better. Overall, it was disappointing. You never know what you're going to get with this genre.
Talk to Me (2022)
Stinker
I was originally looking forward to this flic in that it had great reviews. The story seemed interesting with a lot of potential. Noticing it was Austilian didn't necessarily damper my intentions. Foreign movies (in English) can be harder to follow at times but still worth it. This was pretty much fast talking, jive talking gen Z hipster dialogue. Scares are far in between. Lots of boring crying and talking interspersed with sleeping, foot sucking, etc. Yeah I know there's a story here about pain and regret too, but it just doesn't seem to work. The screen play is to broken up. Maybe just to much fast jive talk or something. The very ending wasn't bad but getting there was tedious.
Butterfly Kisses (2018)
Movie within a movie within...
Ok, overall I liked it. Just because it's about an urban legend doesn't mean it's a ripoff as some are trying to imply. The acting was pretty good and the fake documentary style was good. It almost gets overwhelming to think that you're watching a movie created about a fake documentary about another short video. (You're also guessing about the nature of the video.) The point of view/perspective can get slightly jumbled. Still pretty good with a great build. The leads are quite good. The paving at first seemed a bit slow but seemed to match the story overall. This was out a few years ago and somehow I missed it.
