Buddi (2020)
Endearing but oddly terrifying
It's nice to have a show that doesn't have noisy music and flashing lights/colors. It's pretty mellow and my son likes it (when the mood strikes). We only watch it if we are scrolling through Netflix and come across it. Then, after a couple of episodes he is ready to move on to something else.
That being said. Some of the creatures (??) they encounter are oddly terrifying. Like it's been conceived via someone's bad acid trip. And I get the eerie sensation from the jostling 'camera' angles that we are looking from the perspective of a predator watching it's prey. Unnerving to say the least.
I really could never watch it again and not miss it.
Hamster & Gretel (2022)
Silly and dry fun!
I didn't expect much (watching with my 5 year old). But I found myself laughing at some of the subtle/dry humor and my 5 year old would giggle at other parts.
I've read critiques of the animation but I found it to be easy to watch. I enjoy a "cartoon" format vs the 3d animation (Doc McStuffins, Puppy Dog Pals etc) which somehow gets dull.
My only critique is that its sometimes hard to hear or understand, which seems to be the case with a lot of new shows, but I always use subtitles anyway! Overall, it's a fun and dry show with some silly plots and fun one liners. Give it a few eps at least!!
Home on the Range (2004)
Unexpected little gem!
I avoided this one because of the negative reviews. And I'm really shocked about the poor reviews now that I've seen it!
I was feeling nostalgic for the old animated movies while perusing Disney+ and gave it a chance.
I'm so glad I found it! The animation and voice acting are a great combination. There are jokes for all ages to be found. Music and plot are fun not too complicated.
Give it a chance in this era of CGI , feels like a classic without being dated. It will be in our movie rotation from now on.
The Creature Cases (2022)
Best kids show I've seen in a long time
This show was a great surprise! I didn't have huge expectations when my 4 year old asked to watch it. It's not a "baby talk-educational show". It has fun story lines, non patronizing script, but still pulls off being educational. The animation is bright and cheery. In fact it's another one of those shows that I'm sad when the kids *don't* ask to watch it.
My only regret is that it's such a new show that there aren't multiple seasons to binge.
Hope Netflix keeps this one going. Total win for my 2 and 4 year old and as a bonus for 35 year old me!
