Mirai Sentai Timeranger (2000)
Now this is sentai done right.
For years, the sentai genre has been touted as kid stuff. And while this may be true in most cases, you cannot deny that after watching the first few episodes of TimeRanger that you get drawn in. The premise is simple: 4 people from the year 3000 get hurtled back into the year 2000 in order to capture a group of escaped prisoners (as well as an entire prison of people in suspended animation). With the help of a young man from 2K, they set up shop and begin the long, drawn out task of defeating creature after creature to return to their time. However, as time goes on, the plot begins to thicken and some very interesting twists are thrown in. And THIS is what I like about it the most. If anyone is curious about the show and they want to check it out, I say go for it. It's something you won't regret.
Alfred Packer: The Musical (1993)
Funny as Hell
I had always heard of this movie from friends and read about it in an article about South Park. I think it's kind of funny that I found this in Borders on DVD, because this is definatly not something for that store.
Before South Park and That's My Bush, Trey Parker developed a movie based on a Colorado legend known as Alfred Packer, who apparently led a group of miners to find gold and eventually wound up starving and eating them all. So, it is technically based on a true story. All that being said, this is the funniest damn movie I've ever seen. Witty dialouge, odd humor, great musical numbers (any movie with a song called, "Hang the B****rd" must be gold), and, if you have the DVD, commentary that is funnier than the movie itself.
Don't know where you can find it besides the internet (you can try Borders, like I did), but whatever you do, buy this movie! I cannot stress that enough.
