Jaanwar (1999)
Lots of Cliches, But Pretty Good
Jaanwar is not an extraordinary film, but I think that in terms of the film that was made almost twenty years ago when I wrote this review, Jaanwar is a pretty good film.
Raising the lives of poor people, Jaanwar tells the story of a man who is trapped in a life of crime after being orphaned. In his life journey, he experienced a series of events that changed his life. After meeting a child who survived a train accident, she is determined to leave the criminal world and live an honest life for the sake of her son's bright future.
This film depicts the life of the poor quite well. The characters in this film have a pessimistic outlook on life, but they still continue to have their hopes in God. The depiction of the lives of the characters is also well written. Maybe what's a bit odd is Karishma Kapoor's make-up. She looks very pretty for the role of a poor girl. Her make-up should have been made simpler to match her appearance with the role she was playing.
The plot is neatly written, but there are a lot of clichés from 90s Bollywood masala films. I love the dialogues in this film, which are written dramatically. Reading subtitles already feels like reading a novel LOL. But I like it haha. The dialogue at the opening of the film is the best.
For comedy scenes, I think the comedy in this film feels a bit "forced". I don't think there would be anything missing if the comedic scene was removed from the film. But I appreciate Johnny Lever with his comedic roles. He did pretty well.
I won't comment much on the acting of the players, because I'm not good at commenting on this part. But I don't like Shilpa Shetty crying too much here. What I remember most about Shilpa Shetty's presence in this film is her tears that kept coming out. I guess, to describe her grief over the loss of the son she loved, it was enough to tell her to continue to act gloomy and listless rather than telling her to continue crying. What is rather unfortunate is that Karishma Kapoor's role is not felt in the development of the story. In the second half of the film, I even forgot that he also took part in this film.
One of the aspects that I like about this film is the soundtrack. Songs from this movie are always on my on repeat playlist. The presence of the soundtrack is indeed quite entertaining, so this film, which has too many cliché scenes, doesn't feel so boring.
Well, this assessment is a bit biased because I wrote more about my feelings towards this film. But I hope this review can help those of you who might want to try watching this film but are a little hesitant.
Commando 2 (2017)
Disappointed!
I've seen the first film, and it's very impressive! I'm really excited to watch this film, because I really hope for more. I think, because this film was released in 2017 - four years after the first film was released - this film will have a fresh storyline and action. Pooja Chopra was the female lead in her first film, however she did not appear in this film. The female lead was taken over by Adah Sharma, who I had previously seen in the film Hasee To Phasee. I don't really know Adah Sharma, but I'm quite interested to see him here. Well ... I watched this film in 2021, it's been years since this film was released. I watched this, after I watched the first film, because my friend recommended it. Intrigued, I decided to watch this trilogy. The day before I watched the movie Commando 2, I already watched the first film, and it's really impressive! Vidyut Jammwal's actions and good looks fascinated me, so I was very excited to watch the movie Commando 2 and 3. Obviously, I have high expectations for this film.
In the first minutes, I was presented with Vidyut Jammwal's action against the guards of a building. Vidyut does a good job of the sequence, but it's a bit exaggerated. Well ... Since this is a Bollywood film, I quite understand it. There are many other Bollywood films with similar action, most of which are even worse. The action is not bad, but it can't be said to be good.
This film is quite confusing at the beginning. The director seems to have made the audience curious, and kept on guessing. I don't really like Adah Sharma here, especially her slightly annoying accent. However, that is precisely the uniqueness of Bhavna Reddy's character. I don't know what accent it is, but it looks like it's a South Indian accent. I still appreciate Adah, even though I'm a little annoyed. LOL.
I'm a little disappointed with the action of Karanveer Dogra aka Vidyut Jammwal here. He looks stupid for a Commando. For over two hours, I always cursed and said, because I was so upset with his actions. However, Vidyut Jammwal's acting and action sequences are already good, even though his character is very annoying. However, I just realized that I was tricked by the character Karan, after I watched the ending.
To Esha Gupta, she was very charming. Initially, I sympathized with the character Maria / Vicky Chaddha after hearing her life story, which she told Karan. Okay, I defended her at the time. However, I hated his character when it all came out, that she was the criminal. Amazingly, why did Vicky only kill her husband, while her enemy, who was clearly in sight, she let escape? Why did he have to reveal who he really was to his enemy, the one who was after him? In fact, at that time she was holding a gun, and she could shoot Karan who was clearly in front of him. Okay, I understand that the director didn't want to hurt the main character, but ... isn't that ridiculous?
The storyline is really bad. At the beginning of the film, we know that the Minister, told Inspector Bakhtawar that Karan was a very dangerous ex-convict. Meanwhile, when we watch the ending, we will be shown the "game" they are doing. In short, Bakhtawar knows who Karan is. And this is what is very disturbing and I really really want to convey. We know that there were three people who were sent by the Minister to arrest Vicky Chaddha, one of whom was an old man. Then, it was said that Karan blackmailed the man, and forced him to pretend to be a stroke sufferer, so that Karan could join the group. We'll see, if the Minister doesn't know that the old man is just pretending to have suffered a stroke. Then in the ending, it is told that Karan and the Minister had planned to arrest Vicky Chaddha for a long time. What?! I really don't understand this. I appreciate scriptwriters who bother to make a plot twist at the end of the story, but the plot twist actually destroys the whole story.
Adah Sharma is so annoying. When she did his stunts against criminals with chains, it just seemed ridiculous. She seemed to be playing with the chains, not fighting criminals.
The soundtrack isn't too bad. For the Haare Krishna song Haare Ram, it's a bit bad in my opinion. I liked the original version of the Bhool Bhulaiyaa film. But the remake version is really, really bad. However, I prefer the new version of the video clip, rather than the original video clip. The music video is more energetic than the old one, but for the song, it's still a better version of the film Bhool Bhulaiyaa. For the T-Series, he should also include credit for the original background music maker. The original arrangement belonged to a South Korean boy band, but I forgot the name. When I watch the movie clips of the song on YouTube, I don't see T-Series writing credit for the original creators. Pritam took the music from them. I'm not a fan of K-Pop, but I don't like it when Bollywood takes their songs, without giving credit. For the song Tere Dil Mein, it was awesome. Armaan Malik's vocals really hypnotized his listeners. Unfortunately, the song was not included in the film. However, I think not including that song in the film is the right decision, because it can reduce the tension.
I don't know what else to say. Thank you for reading my review :)
My rating: 4/10
Commando 3 (2019)
Movies With Low Expectations, and High Reality!
I am a Vidyut Jammwal fan, and have watched two previous Commando series. When I was going to watch the movie Commando 2, I had high expectations for the film. However, I was disappointed with the movie Commando 2, because it was not what I imagined. When I was going to watch this film, I didn't really expect much. I watched this film, only to see Vidyut Jammwal and Adah Sharma in action.
I am a Muslim. In the first minutes, I felt unsure about this film. I thought, if this film raised the same concept as in the film Baby (2015). However, that was not the case. This film does tell a story about Muslim terrorists, but this film actually conveys the message that not all Muslims are terrorists. Commando 3 is the best film by Vidyut Jammwal. And it's even better than Khuda Haafiz's film.
Unlike most other Bollywood masala films which emphasize male heroes more, and place female heroes as sweeteners, this film is quite the opposite. Male characters do not always dominate. Scenes of women fighting male criminals are rare in Hindi cinema. The writer and director provide a balanced portion between male heroes and female heroes. This shows that women are not always dependent on a man. The characters played by Adah Sharma and Angira Dhar, of course, will be a motivation for other women.
For Gulshan Devaiah's villain role, it was good enough. He did his role well throughout the film. However, he was still at a lower level when compared to Esha Gupta, the villain in the previous film. I'm not someone who understands acting, but I just convey my personal opinion. Honestly, I liked Esha Gupta more than Gulshan Devaiah. However, I really appreciate Gulshan's role here.
As for Adah Sharma, he is very good at delivering his dialogues Hindi with a unique accent. I don't know what accent it is. But it seems like a South Indian accent. In my opinion, his accent was a bit annoying, even though he was doing well. I like the role of Adah Sharma here. His action scenes are better than the action scenes he did in the movie Commando 2. Angira Dhar also amazed me with the sequence of actions he did.
I would like to talk about Vidyut Jammwal's dialogue delivery. Well ... Acting and action scenes, which is more dominating. However, I was really disappointed with the way Vidyut delivered the dialogue. He spoke loudly, but his face was as out of sync as his tone. But that is only at the beginning of the film. Furthermore, the delivery of the dialogue is good enough.
For the soundtrack, that's good enough. However, the song Tera Baap Aaya is very disturbing when it is tucked in the middle of the film. The song Tera Baap Aaya is quite put at the end of the film. Supposedly, the song should not be put in the middle of the film, because the vocals are quite disturbing, especially in scenes that are quite tense.
Overall, this film is good, but has some simple flaws that are a bit annoying. However, we have to appreciate those who took the pains to make this film.
My rating: 7/10
Khaali Peeli (2020)
Superb!
It doesn't matter if Ananya and Ishaan are nepotistic actors or not, it is clear, this is a great masala film! One of the best films I've seen. The storyline, the songs, and the acting of the players are amazing! Congratulations to Maqbool Khan, Ishaan Khattar and Ananya Panday for doing their job well.
Maybe, Ananya did not show an outstanding performance when appearing in the films Student of the Year 2 and Pati Patni Aur Woh. But this time the girl was completely different! Ananya has improved in her acting part, although Ananya's dance is still a bit stiff, it is worth appreciating because she put in the effort. For Ishaan, he did his job well. His acting is really amazing. His dance moves really wow me.
As for the song, the two songs from this film are truly extraordinary. The music is fresh and makes me dance! Good job for Mr Vishal Shekhar who has composed the music in this film wonderfully. I love Duniya Sharma Jayegi's song (and it will be my favorite forever!)
This is the best film of Ananya Panday and also Ishaan Khattar. I can't stop thinking, how there are stupid people who boycott this film just for reasons that are not proven true. To the people reading this, I hope you will understand what I am saying, that Sushant died not because of nepotism in Bollywood. It had absolutely nothing to do with Sushant's ill-fated death. Don't blame nepotism. Because you are the ones who make them successful, so that (maybe) hinder Sushant's career. You have brains, and please, make the best use of that gift from God.
I guess this is all I can say. I don't know what else to say. And I hope Sushant's silly fans can understand what I'm saying.
Sabse Bada Khiladi (1995)
Full of Puzzles!
I've watched this movie three times, but I've never felt bored when watching it. Sabse Bada Khiladi is one of the best films from the Khiladi series I have ever watched.
Akshay Kumar, the main actor performed his role very well. He played Inspector Vijay, the cool and cool inspector, and Kalki, the foolish man very well. Among his roles as Vijay and Lallu, I think his role as Lallu is the best. Akshay is more suited to play the witty character than the indifferent character. He's an actor who has talent as a comedian. He has always been a successful comedian in his films. Before watching the film Singh Is King (in my opinion this is the best Akshay Kumar comedy), I can already see the talent of comedian Akshay in this film. Lallu's departure is the saddest part, even though Lallu and Vijay are ... (I don't want to spread spoilers). But, his role as a police officer did not disappoint. He did all that perfectly. Akshay did the battle scenes very well, with a stern face.
Mamta Kulkarni, she is the main female magnet in this film. Mamta does everything extraordinary. Her acting is something that cannot be underestimated. She did well.
Mohnish Behl, he did well but ... he did the same thing as in the previous films. He remains a villain. Supposedly, there was another actor who replaced his position at the time. He has become too much a villain, and he should change his image by becoming a hero. Do you know? Being a bad guy is no good! He will be labeled a villain by the audience!
This film is the same as 90s films in general. Have a quality that is not too good. But for the storyline, this is amazing. Although the climax scene can already be predicted how the ending. But for mysteries and puzzles ... This is the hard part to guess. My advice, if you want to watch this movie for the first time and want to get stuck in the game, don't ever open iMDb other than to see the rating! Some users spread spoilers on their reviews and give no warning about it. If you read my review before watching, I hope you don't do it a second time. I'm trying not to spread spoilers to keep your curiosity.
For the song, I give a 7/10 rating. The soundtrack is very impressive, especially for the song "Bholi Bhali Ladki." The song should be appreciated because it has a beautiful melody, even though the choreography is a bit strange. This is common in the 90s. The Mamta and Akshay costumes in the songs are a bit strange. Maybe, at that time, their costumes were very cool. But as a millennial generation and living in present, I feel that their costumes are very strange. But, maybe their costume is a costume that was very cool in its time.
I guess there's nothing else I need to comment on. May I ask, can I watch it for the fourth time?
My rating : 8/10
Don't forget to watch this movie! Enjoy the roller coaster!
Upin & Ipin (2007)
Upin Ipin Review
Upin Ipin is a childish animation and has a simple story line so that it is easily digested by children. Upin and Ipin is a cartoon intended as a means of moral education and character, not just a cartoon as entertainment.
Many scenes on Upin Ipin show the importance of tolerance, kinship, friendship, and much more. Upin and Ipin's characters are told as Muslim figures who have non-Muslim friends, such as Jarjit Singh the Punjabi child and Mei-Mei the Chinese child. It's clear that this animated series is intended to teach children how important tolerance is.
Not merely telling about daily life, Upin and Ipin animated series sometimes picks up stories that have nothing to do with everyday life. For example, in the episode "Aku sebuah Jam" (I'm a Clock) where Upin and Ipin turned into alarm clock and stayed at Ah Tong's watch shop. This makes the children not feel bored watching the cartoon series Upin and Ipin set in a village.
But, there are some scenes that are made too excessive. There are several scenes that mimic scenes in Anime.
Upin Ipin cartoon series must be watched by children, especially small children aged five years and over.
Dancer (1991)
Action Film, With a Strange Dances
Long before watching the Dancer film, I saw Akshay Kumar's talents in his various films. He is not as smart as Hrithik Roshan in dancing, but Akshay can act well in every dance. That's what I like about every Akshay dance, he doesn't over-dance and doesn't think to flex his dance.
I've watched this movie twice. The first time I watched it, I swear! I cannot describe this film. The main attraction for me in the movie Dancer is Akshay Kumar. The second time, I tried to look on the other side of the film.
Just an ordinary story. Corny. Indeed there is nothing special. But, this film fascinates me with romantic scenes and action. Hundreds of Bollywood masala films also have the same appeal. That's why this film is normal.
Revenge films are commonplace in Bollywood in the 80s and 90s. The only thing that made me interested in watching this film was Akshay Kumar and Rakhee that I had seen in their other films before. Rakhee performed well as a mother. I also appreciate this film because it displays the figure of a mother as the figure of an angel. This film really teaches about the meaning, "who is mother?". Although there are some dramatized scenes. This is the disadvantage.
Laxmikant Berde also performed well, although he played some scenes with crisp comedy. He appeared to accompany all the main characters quite well. Although his acting seemed ordinary in this film.
Mohnish Behl also performed the same as his other roles. He appeared as a villain in the film. Mohnish is another attraction in this film besides Akshay.
Mohini appeared as a sweetener. I guess, she doesn't work well in some scenes. She only honey for this film.
Akshay is the main magnet of the Dancer film. He appeared as a good dancer. He should be appreciated for his efforts. But what was most disturbing was the strange dance moves. He seemed to be doing martial arts rather than dancing. The only Akshay dance that is very good and quite reasonably referred to as "dance" is the dance in the song Rim Jhim Sawan Barse.
The song composed by Anand-Milind is rather strange. They don't usually make songs like this. Overall, the music for this film is very bad. Of course there are still exceptions. Rim Jhim Sawan Barse's song is the only song that is not strange. Aao Chalo Milke Gaaye's song is not bad either.
My rating: 5/10
I (2015)
Filmfare Award Alone are Not Enough
The first time I saw Shankar's extraordinary performance in the film Enth estimates (2010). The first time I saw, I felt that Shankar was not just a director, but a scientist! He has made an extraordinary film that is extraordinary! When I saw his performance for the second time in film 2.0 (2018), that's where I was really sure that Rajnikanth was not with a director at the time, but a scientist and ... a witch!
"I" has been released for years. But, that doesn't matter. As long as the director is a Shankar. I watched this film and found that "I" was a surprise! Even though I expected more respect than "I", in my eyes "I" was an atomic bomb! At that moment, I had to change Shankar's nickname as a scientist and magician into a scientist, magician and bomb maker!
I've seen Amy Jackson before in the film Singh Is Bliing (2015). As a young actress, her performance in the film was not bad either, although the quality of her acting in the film was still far behind that of other actresses her age. When I want to watch the movie "I", I had doubts about its performance in the film. But, my mind is clearly 100% wrong. He appeared extraordinary in the film "I" which is very contrary to his appearance in the film Singh Is Bliing! He did not disappoint at all. He is good at managing his emotions for each scene, and does everything extraordinary. I think he only spoke fluently in English. Again I was wrong, I saw it in the movie "I", he perfectly brought Tamil dialogue! Without the slightest flaw. She also performed well as an Indian woman, even though she was British.
Vikram's performance, no need to compare with anyone. There is no point. Why? Yes! Because he is amazing! My advice, don't ever compare Vikram with other actors because it's just like you eat and spit it out. He is different from other superstars because he is truly extraordinary! His acting was originally a playful man who likes to fantasize, he suddenly transformed into a model that is cool and far from the previous character. This is an extraordinary transformation! That is why I began to fall in love with the extraordinary actor, Chiyaan Vikram.
When I read the news that the South Korean film "Parasite" won an Oscar, I was furious. Not because I hate the film, but I regret that the Oscar jury did not include the film "I" in the list of nominations. Supposedly, this film by Shankar deserves to be nominated and even won the winner! Yes ... I know if this film has won the Filmfare Award trophy, I think it's not enough (and not even fair). Supposedly, this film also brought trophies from various prestigious awards, including Oscar.
The visual effects are amazing. Different from other Indian films. In my eyes, the visual effects of this film are more amazing than the visual effects of Hollywood films. Salute to Shankar and the entire VFX team!
Honestly, I don't like music by A.R Rahman. Maybe only music from the film Jab Tak Hai Jaan (2012) is what I like. But, I can't believe it. A.R Rahman's work in the film "I" is even more amazing than the extraordinary works in the film Jab Tak Hai Jaan. The songs really live in every scene. Really extraordinary. This is a miracle!
Rating 8 or 9 alone is not enough to be the value of this film. A score of 10 is the most perfect. No need to tell, surely you know what value I gave.
Don't forget to watch this movie!
Humshakals (2014)
Entertaining Movies!
'Humshakals', a film from my favorite director, Sajid Khan who has a fresh joke. I'm not at all ashamed to express my thoughts, that this film is truly entertaining! I have never been disappointed in the acting of my favorite comedy actor, Riteish Deshmukh. He never failed to become a comedian. I was very surprised when people said that this film was really bad. I think this film has a joke that is really funny and entertaining! I did not stop laughing when watching this film. Especially in the scene where Riteish and Saif become crazy dogs.
This film has its own tension. The tension sometimes makes me upset, but I appreciate Sajid Khan's work. I appreciate the hard work of Ram Kapoor, Saif Ali Khan, Riteish Deshmukh, Tamannah Bhatia, Esha Gupta, and Bipasha Basu. They never disappoint in every film!
I guess, only people who have a sense of humor like rock don't laugh when watching this film. After watching and idly I opened iMDb, I was surprised. I also wondered, why did this masterpiece get such a low rating? Oh man ... anyone who says that people who laugh when watching "Humshakals" are under-10s, you're wrong.
I really appreciate this one of Sajid's works, and have never been ashamed even though people will think I have a low sense of humor. No! People who laugh when seeing this film, do not have a low sense of humor! Sajid's jokes never fail to make me laugh.
I also like the songs in this film. 'Caller Tune' and 'Piya Ke Bazaar Mein' are two of my favorite songs. Himesh Reshammiya has made an explosion by arranging music for this film. I will never forget the jokes, the storyline, and the songs. This is a masterpiece!
I give it a 10/10 rating.
This film is perfect. And i like it!
Sapoot (1996)
Bad film, with two extraordinary things
Sapoot is a stupid film. This film is really bad to watch. I wonder what's on the director's mind when directing this film. I hope you will never watch such a bad movie. In terms of the storyline, I think if the storyline is very bad.
But I appreciate some comedy scenes that are slipped in the middle of the story. They cannot be forgotten. Likewise with the action scenes carried out by Akshay and Sunil. Even more shocking to him, Akshay did it all without a stunt double.
Rating for music, I say if the film's music is so disappointing.
Although it's not too bad, with one song that I still can't forget, which is Tera Yeh Dekh Ke Chehra. For the song Kajal Teri Aankhon Ka, I feel disappointed with the choreography and the song. This song has similarities to Anu Malik's own song, i.e
Sainik (1993)
Amazing!
Akshay Kumar, an underestimated actor at the beginning of his career in the 90s. But, in my opinion, Akshay has done a brilliant act in the film Sainik. Sainik, is not a great work of director Sikander Bharti. But, this film really touched my heart.
Akshay and Ashwiny's acting cannot be underestimated. They already made a big bomb in this film. Their performance was really brilliant. How Akshay plays so nicely as a brave soldier, while Ashwini plays the role of a wife of a soldier very well. I will never forget their brilliant performance. Besides Akshay and Ashwini, Farheen also needs to be appreciated. He plays a cheerful girl very perfectly. There is no other word to describe Farheen's acting in this film other than EXTRAORDINARY.
Nadeem-Shravan, my favorite music composer, has never disappointed me with all his works. The proof, he has created a beautiful song for the soundtrack of the film Sainik. Nadeem-Shravan has created a big bomb with their works for this film. There is no other word that can describe everything besides, AMAZING!
Barsaat (1995)
Briliant!
Very brilliant movie! This film has romantic scenes that are very good and sweet, pleasant songs, and Twinkle and Bobby's brilliant acting! Twinkle Khanna, the actress did a really great act in the film Barsaat. Although still new, he showed the audience that he was very great. As a connoisseur of films, of course I do not agree if Twinkle is famous because his father and mother were famous actors in the past. Twinkle has acting talent that was inherited by his parents! Likewise with Bobby, he did very, very great acting. Nadeem Shravan has created music that is pleasant to hear. Alka Yagnik has filled the Twinkle vocals very well. I love her sound. My judgment is 8/10
