Loki (2021)
Tropi, the Norse God of Themes, Motifs, and Devices.
This was clearly written by someone using TV Tropes as a how-to guide.
Every imaginable cliche in the book, combined with all the nonsense we've come to expect from modern television.
No wonder everyone in this looks worn-out.
Still, they aren't as worn-out as the plots and set pieces are.
Eden (2021)
Not a bad show... if you can get past the first episode.
That first episode? Jesus did they drop the ball with it.
It's a massive hurdle that will probably weed out a lot of people who would have enjoyed the show, if they'd have fought through and lept watching the series.
Personally, I think they knew the first episode stank, which is why the dropped it as a boxset and not in weekly installments, as the boxset drop made it more likely that a decent number of people would make it through.
Cruella (2021)
The Devil Wears Perdita
Is it a bad film? Not at all. Is it a great film? No, but some good casting and performances help it a lot.
Who is this filmed aimed at? More likely the mums watching this with their kids than the kids themselves. It's long and the obvious references will only be appreciated by adults of a certain age with a certain taste in film and television.
One big thing, and I think this is in its favour, is that you could file off the Disney serial numbers and it still stand up just fine as a 70s fashioned-themed comedy heist flick all of its own.
Plsu, it does have a great soundtrack, marred only very slightly by some poor cover selections.
The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It (2021)
It was okay. If you liked the others, you'll probably like this one.
It's more of what you'd expect, and it leans hard on old movies like Night of The Demon.
Solos (2021)
Mediocre, at best.
It wants to be Black Mirror, but that late-stage, "we've burned this concept out" Black Mirror. I genuinely feel sorry for people who think this is clever.
Casting and production saved this from losing more stars, though I am bored to tears of seeing Dan Stevens in so much these days.
M.O.D.O.K. (2021)
Really not good
Painful "humour" made this a struggle to watch. Gets 3 stars for casting and production. It'd get one or two more if Patton Oswalt wasn't in it.
It's like they made a whole series out of a Robot Chicken script that they found in the trash.
Things Heard & Seen (2021)
Blurgh
Just a mess. A big, fat mess. Lots of shambling about, wonky threads, and wasted opportunities.
That ending? Oh dear, dear, dear.
Oh, and to the people who are saying that people who didnt like or understand the ending aren't smart enough to "get it", you must be pretty dull-witted to think that it was an acceptable ending.
Meanwhile...
"So, ghosts, are you gonna save her?"
"Nah, we'll let her die, so her power is added to our's, but her husband will die though, if that helps."
"So, ghosts, you are gonna let her daughter be an orphan?"
"Yeah, cos we want that power boost. Them's the breaks."
"Why do you want more power?"
"To punish evil men."
"Not to save more women?"
"Nah, cos they need to die so we can punish more evil men."
"Oh..."
The Invisible Man (2020)
Zero evidence that Adrian is the villain
SPOILERS
She does bag things, and his brother does bad things, but Adrian?
No evidence of him being any kind of villain whatsoever.
They did nothing to establish him as a bad guy. and there is zero evidence of him every having been in the suit at any point in the movie.
Obviously they didn't want to do anything as troublesome as establish his villain bona fides, so you are just supposed to accept that he's done all the things she and his brother claim.
The movie opens with her having drugged him, and her "escaping" from their home.
He wakes, he chases her and he punches through the car window and tries to pull her out. Is that evidence that he's a monster, or just that he's mad as hell that she drugged him?
And that's it. Nothing more.
Adrian smashes a car window and tries to grab her.
Everything else is done by his brother... oh, except for when she puts on the spare suit and makes it look like Adrian killed himself.
Hodge's character lets her go, not because he is on her side, but because he is scared of crossing a known murder who has a stealth suit. He has a daughter to consider, after all.
Agramon's Gate (2019)
Owes heavily to "The She-Creature" (1956)
MST3K fans may be singing 'Tickle-Me Carlo Lomabrdi', after watching this one
The Society (2019)
The Pied Piper
It's funny that no-one seems to realise it is literally a reworking of the Pied Piper legend.
It gets compared to Under The Dome and Wayward Pines and so on, and fair enough, but the Pied Piper is what it is.
The bis driver's name was Pfeiffer for heaven's sake lol
It's not the best show, and it's not the worst either, and I'll no doubt watch season 2, should it appear.
