I always like the mysteries in Private Eyes. They're quite cleverly woven, amusing, and showcase some good chemistry between Matt and Angie (as friends and colleagues, but not during the recurring will-they-won't-they moments.) This episode is no exception.
The home-life scenes, on the other hand, tend to be saccharine, clichéd, unbelievable twaddle. This time, we have yet another of the "Jules does or wants to do something which Matt doesn't approve of but he eventually realises he shouldn't try to control her life and gives in" subplots. Always the same. Increasingly annoying.
Hey, you hip TV writers, it might be uncool but imposing rules and limitations is a vital part of parenting; allowing children to do whatever they like because "they have to live their own lives" is probably not the great parenting style you keep telling us it is.

To be honest, I was on the verge of giving up on this series after the pretty dull and uninvolving first episode of this two-part opener. But I decided to see the story through to its conclusion in the second part. And I'm glad I didn't let my impatience get the better of me.
Things really get going in this episode. The pace picks up, a couple of the main characters are better defined and the two separate storylines take shape, leading to a brilliant ending. Trying to avoid spoilers, I can only say that the situation a certain character finds themselves in and the unimaginable choice they're faced with in regards to a loved one's fate are heartbreaking and well done. God only knows what any of us would do in such circumstances.
I'll certainly give ReGenesis a few more episodes before making up my mind on whether to stick with it or not.
