Second Wind (1976)
what comes first?
Second Wind is a running film that came out in the late seventies. Not a very good cinematic movie and is surely not an award winning film. The film does capture the excitement of wanting to run and testing ones limits. The film also portrays the what AMERICAN BEAUTY portrayed just a few years ago. What can happen to a business man who gets tired of his life. The main character Roger is a successful stock broker who has a fancy for running. When he decides to start running his relationship suffers, he is tested with adultery, his work suffers and his family life crumbles. What has to be understood though is that when an athlete is in training the athlete has to put in a 100 percent commitment. The athlete needs support from his or her family. So who is right in this film? Is Roger right in wanting to train and pursue a career in running? Or does the family come first rather than ones happiness?
The Image (1969)
interesting short film
One of the first screen performances by David Bowie. This black and white short art film has David Bowie as an image that comes to life to torment his artist. No matter what the artist does to get rid of his image, the image keeps coming back. An interesting short film that is hard to find. But a must for hard-core Bowie fans.
Joe's Bed-Stuy Barbershop: We Cut Heads (1983)
Early thesis film proves Spike Lee worthy of filmmaker
Joes Bed-Stuy Barbershop is Spike Lee's thesis film for NYU graduate school. With this film it is clear that Spike Lee would go on and make better and greater films. Spike Lee's film about a barber shop centers around the main character Zack. Zack takes over the barbershop after Joe is mysteriously murdered. But it becomes apparent that Zack will follow in Joe's footsteps down the wrong path. The movie is a glimpse into the world of an urban jungle where it's survival of the fittest whether you like it or not.
Rat Girl (1995)
a compelling short....
Rat girl is a compelling short film about a guy that can't get a girl and a girl who is a manic depressive. And how they find each other by a wrong number. The film uses basic cinematic technique and the story makes you think about life. The film is a simple romantic comedy that works. I highly recommend the film for people who are into short films.
Countdown to Looking Glass (1984)
I thought it was good....?
A thrilling drama of possible nuclear warfare. Set in the Cold war 80's, the docu-drama is a must see. The movie is divided into days and with each day the tension escalates between the U.S and the Soviet Union. The movie was actually based on a wargame that was conducted between the two superpowers. It's a must see for those that like docu-dramas and thrillers. To bad they don't make it on tape. You have to be lucky enough to catch it on t.v.
