I'll Give My Life (1960)
Spreading God's Love
This is the story of a father whose son chooses faith over the family fortune and business. The Son is a young, bright engineering graduate who now feels called to the ministry. Against his father's wishes he enrolls in the seminary. The movie reveals the passion and the sacrifice of men and women overseas serving as missionaries. It is about commitment, sacrifice, and love---a love that surpasses all human understanding.
This bit of drama that appears to be produced by a religious organization, shows you can tell a good story and get the point across with a low budget and simple script. The actors do a fine job and I almost didn't recognize Angie Dickinson. This last paragraph is mostly here because IMDb requires ten lines of text. God bless you.
The Da Vinci Treasure (2006)
Bottom line - don't bother.
I rented this out of curiosity when I saw it on the shelf the same day "The Da Vinci Code" came out. This movie is an insult to the viewer and everyone involved. It was slapped together so fast that I could find no reference to it anywhere on the internet for several days after I watched it. I just looked it up today to see if anyone had claimed it yet and give it my vote which might be too high now that I think about it. Somebody must have made some money on it somehow. There is no other excuse or motive for such trash. The lack of quality of the production reminds me of some cheap porn. Do you suppose Henrikson and Howell owed somebody a debt they couldn't refuse? I see 8 people actually gave this a 10 rating. Could that many crew members have had the gall to claim this as their best work? Bottom line - don't bother.
American Soldiers (2005)
Must see
In my opinion, this movie is a "must see". In this movie we see "a day in the life" of American Soldiers fighting, killing and dying in the absurd situation the leaders of this country forced upon them in Iraq. You get a sense of the bravery and skill of the regular soldier and a taste of what the reserves who never expected to be there are feeling. This story tries to show us as much as possible about what's happening over there as they can in the limited space of the movie.
Granted this is low budget. The actors are young and inexperienced. The number of attacks they endure and survive in one day starts to remind me of playing war as a boy. With a bigger budget they could've had several units spread throughout Iraq and living through the various situations. As it is, this one unit of soldiers sees the effects of war on their friends, their allies, their enemies, innocent bystanders and themselves, all in one long, surreal day.
Bottom line... I remember the day all these Ohio boys that grew up not far from here were killed. This movie is a tribute to them and all the other American and other youths killed and wounded in this senseless war. It shows their dedication to duty and their bravery. It also shows that Iraqi's were not terrorists until we started killing them and occupied their country. It mentions that all the reasons given to us for the war are lies. The true terrorists are in Washington, etc. This is a must see even though it doesn't qualify as a Hollywood blockbuster and maybe because of that. In light of "United 93" and other 9/11 propaganda that is about to come out, I don't think Hollywood is allowed to tell the truth. Anyway, God help us all and now I'll get off the soapbox.
Heroes in Blue (1939)
Terrible
In this movie an inept, unthinking, uncaring, moronic policeman blindly follows the idiotic orders of his commander and ruthlessly goes after his own brother in hopes of gaining a promotion. He uses their sick mother as bait which causes her another "attack". Now his brother is doing 20 yrs. for a crime he didn't commit. Later He charges like a storm trooper into a situation that required tact and subtlety and gets his dad killed. In the "happy ending" he pins a posthumous medal on his dad's empty uniform. So the moral of the story is that to be a "Hero in Blue" you need to be dumber than dirt and not care who gets hurt. The acting is below average. Don't waste your time on this one.
Traffic with the Devil (1946)
I'll drive safer!
Every driver should see this! The world would be a safer place. The images of death and destruction are a blunt reality check. I wish they'd still shown this type of thing when I was in Driver's Ed. Somebody should remake this eye-opening short.
