Deceiver (1997)
nothing like a twisted mystery
tim roth is truly unbelievable in this movie. he puts in a great performance and the the rest of the cast follows with good acting of their own. the movie takes you into a dark world where the horribly demented seemed to dwell. it is a movie that offers lots of varying plots that in one way or another come together to finish the movie off. very few things flaw this movie. one of them being that i couldn't read any of the little scripts at the beginning of the movie. for me, this movie was the most surprising that i have seen in awhile.
Sydney (1996)
gwenyth paltrow looks good no matter what
i had never heard anything about this movie, and i only rented it because i like gwenyth paltrow. since i had no expectations for this movie, i may like it more than i should. i am a fan of the movie that takes a different approach to existing themes. i would call this the really odd buddy movie. and it works. there is one scene in the movie where miss paltrow may look her worst ever, and she is still quite appealing.
The Limbic Region (1996)
worth a look but not much else
this is a movie for people who watch a good amount of movies. it is a decent movie, but it may not be for people who are used to the more mainstream flick. it has okay acting, okay plot, okay cinematography, but nothing real outstanding. the unique thing may be the way the two main characters interact throughout the whole movie. it was kind of bizarre and i really liked it. however, i am afraid to say that the whole movie is very predictable. as it goes, the movie something new to an old recipe.
Box of Moonlight (1996)
enjoyable
I really like John Turturro, and this is one of his best movies. This actually has the makings of a regular buddy movie. Turturro leads the life we all have and Sam Rockwell leads the life we wish we had. They get together, get into some antics, and that's a movie. So what makes this one above average? First, is the truly great performances put in by Turturro and Rockwell. Great acting helps, but this movie has an intelligent script. It takes you on a bizarre journey as these two men come together. It's funny, moving, and somewhat educational. It may not be for everyone, but then again no movie is.
A Man Called Sarge (1990)
an embarrassing pleasure
i do not understand why this movie is so often overlooked. it may not be a classic, but it has it's moments. true, sometimes the humor can be sophomoric, even down right childish at times, but there are the occasional jokes that an adult would to think about to understand. it has a goofy plot, but is surprisingly well acted. it will not change your life in any way, but it is pointless entertainment and (for the most part) non-thought provoking fun.
