One of the challenges of the film was the shooting of the car crash scene, especially when they weren't allowed to damage the motel or car. They actually shot it with the car static and the actors faking the crash movement. The VFX team then added damage to the motel and back of car.

Production designer Theo Boswell had the challenge of making the numerous UK locations look American, including building the motel room's wood paneling specifically for those scenes.
The opening US set snow shots were actually shot near Moscow, Russia by Cinematographer Yan Yasinsky.
