It could have been a better film but it's stuck in too many cliche's in all the departments. It seems the makers are highly influenced by the melodramatic television shows. Everything in this movie is predictable. Neither Sachin nor Swapnil (or the surprise guest star casts) can help with a screenplay so immature that is supported by run of the mill direction. It's over dramatic throughout. Characters lack depth and each one tries to portray a caricature instead of a character (except Siddharth Chandekar who plays Varad, but again he has nothing much to do with his character). Swapnil Joshi tries to look menacing but fails badly, at times his expressions make the scene cringeworthy. Sachin Pilgaonkar's dialogue delivery is same as it was in the 80's. Good actors like Anand Ingle are wasted. Instead of providing relief, the forgettable songs in this film are badly timed. They add nothing to the story but instead stretch the playing time. The unrealistic and loud approach in every aspect right from lights, makeup, costume, sets create a polished uneasiness that makes the film lack lustre. Avoid it if you can.
RANANGAN REVIEW :
Sometimes many films comes where not a single thing goes right and we feel like let's leave the film in Interval only. And Ranangan is sort of that film but somewhere 2nd half saved it's half dead life. Basically, script is not extraordinary or something like that but still the basic script would have got my sympathy as an honest attempt but then Intolerable Screenplay, bad direction paired with so many unnecessary things, too bold things has spoiled it completely. The attempt of making simple, good things unnecessarily cinematic has been failed here.
The story is about Deshmukh's family, his prestige, his royalness, and he crosses all limits to keep them alive and still doesn't feel guilty. But what happens when his family members come to know about it, what has happened in flashback and how it is related to what's happening in present? To know all this you have to watch the film, this can't be described here in writing. In Acting, entire unit has given a honest attempt but doesn't leave an impact because of Bad film-making. Story is somewhat good, Screenplay is Terrible, Unbearable and Direction is Childish. Editing in first half is too bad, you almost feel like leave your seat but second half is somewhat watchable. Songs are too noisy, loud and doesn't fit anywhere in the screenplay, completely useless. Cinematography is Average. Dialogues are good, few are meaningful, some are kiddish.
Overall, this one is a below average film, which neither entertains you nor tolerable. I would have gone with 1* but just because some big names are attached to the film i'm going with 2/5*, watch it strictly if you're a fan of someone from the cast, but don't expect anything otherwise skip it. Rating - 2/5*

Have come closer to Sachin after watching him on social media, which prompted me to watch this film and am glad to see it. Although the story seemed to be one of the common mainstream cinemas, but was worth watching due to acting, story, photography and scenery. It was a sophisticated package and reminded one of the Hindi movie 'Trishul'
All the actors acted well, but Sachin was needless to say outstanding, reminded one of Sanjeev kumar.
Overall good movie with some message.
