Christmas comes early on Max, as the streamer adds a bevy of holiday movies to its library for the month of November, alongside new TV debuts, a noteworthy documentary and more. “Elf,” “Christmas Vacation,” “Arthur Christmas,” “The Shop Around the Corner” and “Four Christmases” are some of the holiday films arriving on the streaming platform on Nov. 1.

This month also sees the Season 2 premieres of “Rap Sh!t” (on Nov. 9) and “Julia” (on Nov. 16) and the series premiere of “Two and a Half Men” creator Chuck Lorre’s new sitcom “Bookie” starring Sebastian Maniscalco (on Nov. 30).

On Nov. 11, check out the documentary “Albert Brooks: Defending My Life” in which the comedian, actor and filmmaker’s best friend Rob Reiner peppers him with questions about his life and career.

And Chip and Joanna Gaines renovate a 100-year-old building in “Fixer Upper: The Hotel,” which premieres on Nov. 8.

It’s a lean month for new original content on HBO/Max. November will see the return of two scripted series in Julia and Rap Sh!t, both of which are debuting their respective second seasons, but this month’s fresh highlight is likely to be Bookie, a new comedy series from the partnership of The Big Bang Theory creator Chuck Lorre, and Nick Bakay. The show tracks an LA bookie called Danny (Sebastian Maniscalco), whose business is in peril as California movies to legalize sports gambling.

Elsewhere in November, there quite a few interesting documentaries to keep an eye on, and two that jump out as “must watch”. Summer is heating up on Max.

Back in May, Max added programming from TLC, HGTV and Food Network. That means Discovery’s popular Shark Week will be available to stream when it kicks off on July 23, with programming to be announced soon.

For fans of unscripted series, Season 3 or “90 Day Fiancé: Love in Paradise: Pillow Talk” (July 4) and Season 5 of “90 Day Fiancé: The Other Way” (July 10) are both streaming, as well as the series premiere of “90 Day Fiancé: UK.”

Home renovation fans will want to catch Season 16 of “Barnwood Builders” (July 6) and the special “Barbie Dreamhouse Challenge” (July 16), hosted by Ashley Graham, just in time for the feature film.

The two big ticket items this month are of the superhero variety. My Adventures with Superman arrives to Max on July 7 after making its Adult Swim premiere the night before. The end of the month sees Harley Quinn season 4 making its long-awaited debut on July 27. Other original TV titles of note are the Steven Soderbergh-directed Full Circle (July 13) and the third and final season of How To With John Wilson on July 28.

On the movie side of things, documentary Glitch: The Rise and Fall of HQ Trivia premieres on July 20. Before that on July 13 is both a fresh reboot of filmmaking competition Project Greenlight and the movie that came of it, Gray Matter. Library movies in July include Pulp Fiction, V for Vendetta, Lethal Weapon, and more on July 1.

The original Max series “Full Circle” debuts on July 13. Directed by Steven Soderbergh, the new drama investigates a kidnapping gone wrong in New York, revealing the secrets and lies of multiple characters. Or as the trailer warns: “Everything is connected.” The six-episode limited series stars Zazie Beetz, Claire Danes, Jim Gaffigan, Jharrel Jerome, Timothy Olyphant, and Dennis Quaid.

The four-part documentary “Last Call: When A Serial Killer Stalked Queer New York” is set in the early 1990s as the AIDS crisis worsens. The media’s distorted coverage of the gay victims, coupled with the homophobic biases of the criminal justice system, undermine the investigation. The docuseries — which premieres on Max on July 9 — illustrates how the LGBTQ+ community fought to solve the murders and demand attention for those murdered.

Updated, 1:38 Pm: HBO has added all episodes of its hit series Big Little Lies to its lineup of free-streaming programming available for a limited time due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Both seasons (14 episodes) are free to watch without a subscription in the U.S. on HBO Go and HBO Now. HBO added the series following last week’s announcement that it was offering nearly 500 hours of free premium content through April 30.

HBO is doubling down on its mission to get people to stay home amid the coronavirus pandemic. In fact, the network has released a serious incentive to do so with nearly 500 hours of Free streaming content for viewers in the Us. On April 3, HBO gave free access to its top shows, Warner Bros. movies, and documentaries without any necessary subscription. The content will be available through April, and if you needed any excuse to rewatch The Sopranos for the third time, this is it.

HBO will begin offering free streaming of the aforementioned series and dozens of other projects, starting Friday, April 3. The limited-time offer will be available on the HBO Now and HBO Go apps, in addition to those platform’s respective websites.

Though most entertainment companies have made moves to keep their customers entertained as more people continue spending time indoors, few entities have announced plans to release such a large volume of content for free. HBO said the free programming will constitute nearly 500 hours but did not specify how long the free streaming would last.

In what’s becoming a common trend across the industry, HBO will be providing free content to viewers during the coronavirus lockdown. Following on from the likes of CBS All Access in opening up their paywall, HBO will be making HBO Now and HBO Go free to access from Friday, April 3rd. While this offering does not include certain hit series like Game of Thrones, viewers will still be able to watch almost 500 hours of content from the HBO library, adding to the options available for those stuck at home.

The entertainment giant are using the slogan #StayHomeBoxOffice for the campaign, which will also be open to participating distributor partners including HBO over cable packages, and via Hbonow.com and Hbogo.com. The full list of shows, movies, and documentaries available from this Friday include:

The WarnerMedia-owned premium cabler is making almost 500 hours of programming available to stream for free (without ads) for a limited time on HBO Now and HBO Go services without a subscription, starting this Friday, April 3.

The list of free programming includes every episode of nine HBO series: “The Sopranos,” “Veep,” “Succession,” “Six Feet Under,” “The Wire,” “Ballers,” “Barry,” “Silicon Valley” and “True Blood.”

I Am Not Okay with This may sound like a contemporary PSA shown in a mandatory Hr meeting, but it’s actually a teen-aimed Netflix television series adapting a graphic novel from Charles Forsman, the writer behind the comic source material for the streaming giant’s subversive coming-of-age series, The End of the F***ing World.

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences announced today that 344 feature films are eligible for the 2019 Academy Awards.

To be eligible for the consideration, the films must open in a commercial motion picture theater in Los Angeles County by Dec. 31, and begin a minimum run of seven consecutive days. Academy rules also state that a feature-length motion picture must have a running time of more than 40 minutes and must have been exhibited theatrically on 35mm or 70mm film, or in a qualifying digital format.

Nominations for the 92nd Academy Awards will be announced on Monday, Jan. 13, 2020. The ceremony takes place on Sunday, Feb. 9, airing live from Hollywood on ABC.

Nancy Drew and the Hidden Staircase star Sophia Lillis is set to lead the cast of I Am Not Okay With This, Netflix’s upcoming YA series from the creator/director of The End of The F***ing World and the producers of Stranger Things. Based on the Charles Forsman graphic novel, I Am Not Ok With This follows a teenage girl navigating the trials and tribulations of high school, while dealing with the complexities of her family, her budding sexuality, and mysterious superpowers that are beginning to awaken within her.

The series is created by Jonathan Entwistle and Christy Hall. Entwistle also serves as executive producer/director and Hall is executive producer/writer.

When it comes to name recognition, few American detectives rank as high as Nancy Drew with audiences, owing to the fact that millions devoured the yellow-spined novels, and no small number of celebs (including executive producer Ellen DeGeneres) went on to credit the character with inspiring them at a young age. As a result, it’s no mystery why so many have tried to develop the character into a proper film or TV franchise — including small-screen attempts by CBS, Ncb and the CW in the last few years alone.

In the case of Warner Bros., the studio bought the rights to the character for just $6,000 back in 1937, and has now opted to dust off and remake “Nancy Drew and the Hidden Staircase” from their own library. And so, Nancy’s back, reborn in the form of super-charismatic, red-headed Sophia Lillis as an assertive, red-headed Millennial who embodies the classic character’s best traits — intelligence,...

The character of Nancy Drew, a teenaged girl detective, was first introduced in a series of books in 1930, and she was played on screen in that era by Bonita Granville in B-movies that coarsened and diluted the dynamic force that Nancy had on the page. Many prominent women who grew up in the mid-20th century have said that Nancy was an inspiration to them because she was ultra-confident, smart, and very active; she is often shown holding a flashlight on the cover of the books and looking bold and un-afraid.

The Drew books were written by a variety of ghostwriters under the pseudonym Carolyn Keene, and of course there have been adjustments made over time to bring her up to date, not always for the better. In the 1980s, Drew was sometimes drawn on the book covers in a sexualized way, and she became more interested in boys while she was solving crimes.

Help crack an important and timeless mystery as a background actor in the upcoming feature film “Nancy Drew and the Hidden Staircase.” Based on the second of the 175 books published in the popular “Nancy Drew” sleuth book series, “Nancy Drew and the Hidden Staircase” will follow detective Nancy Drew (played by Sophia Lillis) as she investigates a potentially haunted house and a missing landowner. Talent, aged 5 and older, is wanted for background roles in the film. There will be an open casting call on May 12 in Monroe, Georgia.
